All4ParLap. Here's hoping I am understanding your question: the harness that the standardbred racers wear is slightly different; racing gear consists of a breast collar, neck strap, martingale, and overhead checkrein; pad, girth and crupper. The shafts attach to the girth. There is no breeching. Pacers often wear hopples to help maintain the gait and discourage them from breaking (the gait). The same rules apply to the donning and removal of the harness. Hope this helps ;-)

This is an excellent resource, thanks! I am going to share it with my HorseDriver group run by Chimacum Tack. Btw that group is great for harness and training questions. They have some helpful posts with photos that show the right and wrong way, which has helped me learn to fix my harness if it doesn't look right. But still learning, just found out that my breastcollar was low to protect the windpipe, but it was creating a low line of draft on my former donkey driving partner (which are hard to get that happy medium.) With my new pony it should be easier to get the breastplate higher.

Fasinating to watch. Not alot has changed over the year. Exept for the fact not alot of people take the time people who do carriage driving do it for events or eventing and some for hobby. Such pitty. It's an art :)

I bought a splendid Victorian rocking horse that belonged to Jonathan and Christine Dick, the British Carriage Driving couple.Just wish the roads were less dangerous. Would much prefer a horse drawn vehicle to a car.

I am just learning driving and was told to avoid hard roads if at all possible to prevent injury to the feet and legs. I am learning to drive miniature horses and would someday like to own my own, just was disturbed when I first started the video and heard the clop clopping on a paved road.

I wouldnt worry too much about the hard road, as long as you're only walking on it.

Maybe Minis can't withstand the concussion of paved roads, but that doesn't necessarily apply to all horses. Miniatures probably don't have the bone and hoof structure to take working on hard surfaces for long, but other breeds, such as this sturdy-legged Welsh (I'm guessing) can do just fine with moderate exposure to paved roads.

Hi There Is it possible to get a copy of these Carriage Driving Videos? My daughter is studing at Capel Manor in Enfield and is making harnesses and would love to have them as a reference.
