Yes, that's Arabic... this song is about his difficult relation with his father, who's Egyptian (hence, the Arabic), and the sense of abandonment he felt when he came asking for money (soldi).

@@eurovoxx thank you for liking the song.. when I heard 10 seconds of this song I knew it could have won, and it could have been serious competition in Eurovision... moreover, I'd add that he has been kind of brave in including 2 verses in arabic, considering the actual political vibes here in Italy (we have a questionable government immigration-wise, even though Mahmood IS Italian). So, props to him and good luck!

@@BenoitXVIII Dear, you're talking to an Arab who should "stand" with his father(as the story is told), but instead I stand with the truth, and that truth is that he had a painful life I don't wish to anyone. Of course, not all Italian are racist, belonging or not to any culture doesn't measure how much open minded or not you are. The question is all about education or how much do we understand it. There's in other hand, people who didn't like him to win not for the racism reason but for the reason they would have liked if someone else could represent them. Anyway he won Sanremo and personally I'm happy for him and I hope he wins Eurovision too. He's a good guy with such a great talet :)

Hi, I'm Italian and would love to give a little backgroud to how he got to rapresent us, beside the song. Sanremo Festival is the most important musical event in Italy, whoever wins gets to take part to Eurovision rapresenting the country. This year there was plenty of very (very) old, traditional italian music and singers, people we've been listening to for 40 years around here. Plus, we are currently under a government that strongly attacks and tries to isolate anything that differs from 'the traditional italian culture', any kind of foreign vibe gets strong criticism (and Mahmood is hald italian half egiptian). Also, youger generations in Italy are being criticised, judged and not supported, at all. With this, I am extremely glad and proud we'll be rapresented by a young, hardworking songwriter with a diverse etnic background both in his personal life and his music. This entry tells me my country is not giving in to the attitude of the current politics in charge, is not giving in to fear, rejection, judgment and isolation. So I really don't mind how this will work out, as many others I am so happy and proud.

Mahmood is 100% Italian. Yes, his lineage is half Egyptian, but his nationality is 100% Italian. Also, I don't agree that you should make this political and that goes for the politicians as well. This is entertainment, let's enjoy it for what it is. One other point, the Italian culture, old tradition and the new are both beautiful and you should be proud.

That's not totally true. Only a small part is insulting him because of his origins. The majority hates him because they voted for Ultimo, but it wasn't enough. SanRemo Festival has an odd way to give the first prize, based on a 50% of popular vote and a 50% of press vote. In Italy there is a political crisis, where people just can't handle with the so-called "elite". Politicians today are seen as an elite and who is an expert of every matter is seen as an elite as well. So, this strange situation brought people to call elite also the press jury, made by people who studied music for all their life. The leaders of the populist parties didn't lose time. Di Maio wrote a post on Facebook, saying that is the people who has to choose the winner, and not an elite. Absolutely mad days.

The song is about the relationship with his father who showed up only to ask for money (soldi, in italian, which is the title of the song).
Yes, it is Arabic: "Waladi waladi habibi ta'aleena" means something like "My little son, my little son, love, come here", referring to the past when his father seemed really caring and not just a leech.
"Come va?" is italian for "How are you/what's up/how you doing". It's the question the father asks just as a "courtesy" before asking for money.

I think you can see it in 2 different ways:

Dear Andy @eurovoxx , I have now seen on the news an article in which you talked about the high costs in Tel Aviv ... Unfortunately, companies such as Airbnb+ understandable highest prices due to demand during the Eurovision period, bring us to a state of unreasonable prices !!! Israel is a small country with a modern railway system - I assure you that if you look for hotels outside of Tel Aviv - you will find that the prices are much lower and in terms of accessibility from Haifa to Tel Aviv, for example the travel time is around 45 minutes and there is a station adjacent to the competition location. Also Natanya , Ashdod, Ashkelon, Bat-Yam, Hadera etc. And these are the cities that are adjacent to the beach ... Of course there are excellent hotels in Jerusalem (half an hour by train to Tel Aviv). And if you can get along with my children? You are also welcome to my home with no money !

It is about his relationship with his father who letf his mother and him when he was 5 . He was born in Milan. His mother is from Sardinia and father fron Egypt. He is a verygood songwriter he wrote a big hit for Marco Mengoni and Tom Walker HOLA (I say) Ciao . Angelo

ESPERO QUE GANE MAHMOOD!! EN ITALIA NO HA SIDO BIEN TRATADO POR HABER GANADO SAN REMO! POR EL SIMPLE HECHO QUE ES HIJO DE PAPÁ EGIPCIANO Y MADRE ITALIANA ES INJUSTO!! SU CULPA? es no ser Italiano 100% Verguenza!!!!! OJALÁ GANE PARA REFREGARLES EN LA CARA.

birikina 15 Soy italiano.

    Go Italy
