Landscape Photography - The Ground Beneath Your Feet

- Hiking and landscape photography go very well together, but it is not always the grand vistas that draw me in and get me inspred. Often it can be the very ground beneath my feet that inspres me enough to unpack my camera gear and take a shot. In this video I start the day slowly in my camper van before undertaking a beautiful day hike up Great End and Allen Crags. The photograph you see in this video has been altered quite dramatically and I will go in to more detail about that in my next video. See if you can figure out what I have done differently.
Here are some stats from the day- Distance: 15.58km. Time: 6:45:35. Ascent: 2887ft

"so yeah, I don't really know what I fancy doing today" says Thomas Heaton chilling in his epic van in the mountains. You sir are a fucking winner at life, I'm going to pour myself a drink just to celebrate that, cheers!
Just a good old fashion Thomas Heaton video nice location nice hike nice image. Thanks for sharing.
It's all in the details, a man after my own heart. Go for a walk up some peaks and take an image or two, what could be better? love it.
@@veronicawilliams8056 did you really just spam Adam Gibbs with a link to some photography advice?? 🤣
Peter McKinnon inspired me to shoot quick and flashy, Thomas Heaton inspired me to slow down and appreciate the beauty of the world. Cheers mate, and thank you for what you do.
This is so true. I found Thomas first and Peter second. The two have inspired me so much to learn the art of video/CZcams
Whose's Peter McKinnon?
The two have really helped understand me and my camera. I know thrive to get out as much as possible
Couldn't agree more with this! Love Peter's dynamism and love Thomas' calm and measured style! Equally good! WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THOSE TWO COLLABORATED???!?? I for one would love to see that happen!

Hiking 10 hrs up one of England’s biggest and most beautiful mountain. Takes photo of frozen puddle and some gravel. Nailed it!
Dear Thomas, thank you for sharing your peace, and your happiness out on a hike with all of us. It came through very clear, in the way you spoke and in the photo you took too, that you were very present in the moment and seeing and enjoying the little things in your day. It makes my day happier, helps me pause and enjoy the beautiful aspects of the world around me right now. Thank you for this gift, and for the photo too. I will do my best to pass this gift on to others in how I live today.
This is the kind of content that drew me to your channel in the first place. Nicely done Thomas. Cheers!
well said -classic Thomas, more of the same please!
I was going to comment that this definitely had the old vibe - a back to his roots sort of feeling.
I love this channel so much, its so gentle and mild mannered, its like the best therapy ever... just a chill dude on a ramble
I’m away to buy a long spoon 🥄 - grand video as always 👍
A really really great video Thomas good to see you getting back to your roots of the channel. Always good to remember You don't need to travel thousand of miles to see some wonderful views in the North of England only a few hours Driving will have yourself bang in the middle of Cumbria and the Lakes District or the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District. I'm Look forward to the Scotland video's...
Aaaaa so that's where your icey shot came from! I just assumed it was from our Rockies trip. Well spotted and once again.....you're the master of B-roll mate.
Juicy....
5:54 Heaton is gold. He devotes so much, also, so natural and original. The BEST photography channel. Pure photography. The truth. Hoping that water didn’t burn much! Cheers from your number one fan in Brazil.
Yes this will do, Classic Heaton video . Great to see you back , play to your strengths and this is definitely your strength . Beautiful peaceful film .
It's contributions of a video like this that keeps me inspired. When I watch one of your videos where there's no grand shot to be had, it reminds me that we're all in the same boat. Rolling to the whims of what our natural surroundings throw our way. Sometimes you're there at the right place, at the right time. But many times it's just like this day.
Amazing! I from Russia and i follow you. Your video watching in all world. Good luck!) You the Best.!) Sorry for my english
I've come to appreciate the beauty of a hike more and more. I can easily spend hours out in the wilderness without even taking out the camera. A scene needs to connect with me in a way, else it's going to be forced and I wont be happy with the result. From what I've seen it seem to be the same for you. It comes across in the video anyway, that you are at peace with what you are doing and you know that even if others will think differently it doesn't really matter because what in the end you're doing it for yourself first and foremost. In simpler words, lovely video Thomas!
tom... even your van window have a perfect composition 3:43 😀😀😀
So true.. 😂
Gotta grey with you on that one... :D
I noticed that too!
Old school Heaton. Love everything you do, but this is where the inspiration all started for me - and for that I say thank you!
This is a splendid classic Heaton: outdoors hiking, views, kit recommendations (long spoon!), and inspiring narrative. Thanks, Tom!
"Stuff" you find along the way are often some of my best shots. Glad to know it is that way for others also.
Hello Thomas,
those are the kind of videos that I like the most. Local fotography, eye for detail, basic vlog no fancy editing.
Enjoyed quite a lot. Keep them comming.
Cheers, Stefan
Love the UT plates. #home. Wonderful video.
This is the classic content I have always enjoyed about your channel. Good to see you out there on hikes, enjoying nature and keeping your eyes sharp for intimate compositions that most would have missed. Cheers!
This is what it is all about brilliant!!
One of my best investments ever ..... a long spoon ..... ah ah ah .... love it.
True Inspiration is what you are Heaton!! Superb video
A grand day out, thanks for taking us along!
You walk like there are camera elves, along the way, taking photos of your journey, ha. Fun! Thanks!
Another terrific video. Thanks for showing the map ahead as well as what you were originally planning. Great to know how you adapt to circumstances.
Back to the old way.. simply enjoying the outdoors and not running after a photograph.
nicely done as always..
Getting back to where it started. This is what brought me here at the start👍🏻
That's my kind of day. You have become an inspiration to me not only to get out there for blend of photography and mountain walking but also the courage to carry the kit and sometimes not to use it atall or not how you intended.
Brilliant stuff Thomas. Thanks for sharing the journey with us all.
Two spoons up
Nothing like hiking and such beautiful countryside just to find one small spot no bigger than a foot that was a very beautiful photographs
A great place in beautiful weather. I climbed a snow covered Great End one winter via Central Gully, it was some walk in as most of the passes were closed and leaving the car somewhere wasn’t easy. It was a pretty good day and I had the good fortune to meet Chris Bonington on the way back down. A great image, thanks for posting a video that brings back some great memories.
The ice and rocks; very cool shot, indeed. I believe we too often get so caught up in "getting the photo" that we forget about the journey. We all need to relax more and take the hike, so to speak, and enjoy what nature has provided for us. Keep it up Thomas. Jim
Great to see you out in your campervan enjoying the scenery again 👍
Thank you Thomas! I really like the pace of the video. We are bombarded by all this fancy quick cut videos that i nearly forgot what draw me to going out, enjoying nature and taking pictures.
You're style shows the beauty of a day out. Very motivating.
Simple, abstract and calming.
Some of the small stones resemble a heart shape.
I love your intimate landscapes the best!
Magical image Tom. Thanks for sharing .
Realy enjoy the poetic way You tell about your photography.
you inspire me Thomas thank you for posting.
Always good to have a mental health day in winter Thomas, clears the mind and lifts the spirits.

Great video Thomas, thanks for sharing
Second! Lovely and profound, Thomas.
I quite like those images too!
This felt so raw and intimate and back to the roots. Loved every minute and the tips and advice you don’t get anywhere else.
Lovely.... Nepal.... Yay!!! Finally...
Thanks Thomas for taking us on your hike. Love the image, I agree sometimes the shot is not where you expect it to be.
Bravo my friend. Superb!
Thank you Thomas! You are always an inspiration for many photographers around the world! Keep the great work up 🙌🏻
My favorite type of Video, a good old hike in the Lakes. Love the walk from Seathwaite to Styhead and Sprinkling Tarns, will have to do Great End now. Cheers.
You really inspire me to slow down and think about what I'm shooting and not just rapid fire everything i see. Keep it up Thomas
Also, playing back at half speed makes you my favorite stoner photographer 🤣
Back to the TH I first knew and subbed to. Love it
23:00 Love it. Great hike! Thanks for bringing us along.
New Heaton video: I click like and then watch.
True that!
Almost every time!

Another awesome image Thomas. Thanks for taking us along.
Enjoy every moment of it, pictures or not (glad I'm not the only one that enjoys the little things,I thought it was great) you're a very lucky man - I don't doubt you've worked VERY hard - with a dream job. Glad one of us has. Good on you Tom!!!
Simple but intimate. Loved seeing the details of your day. For me, one of your best videos.
I love this style of video. And great shot.
In my opinion, one of your best videos!
Stellar image
Feeling jealous for that photo.... awesome as usual
Your an inspiration Thomas ❤️
Great vid, good to see you have got your mojo back. Mountain therapy at its best. 👍
that image is gorgeous!
I love the outings that feature the van. I’m a van geek.
Beautiful image, Thomas, and great video.
Nice to see you back to your old antics. Hope you got a good recharge.
As soon as Mr Heaton started heading up that deserted valley in the middle of the most picturesque region of England, in the middle of Winter, heading for a peak specifically for its dramatic panoramic views you just knew he was coming back with a picture of a puddle 😂JK Thomas, love your work 😀👍
Hi Thomas, think I enjoyed your hike more than some of your overseas trips, no snow capped mountains, no vast seascapes or ice caves, just a good down to earth walk with nature, thanks for that, plus enjoyed seeing the van, cheers
Just love this style of video it's like your early videos also great image
Loooved the video! Nice vibes Thomas! Cheers!
Thomas, what a wonderful outlook you have in your appreciation of the simple things that being us pleasure. Great video and amazing image!
I loved the image as I enjoy making art images on things most folks step on or over.
Thank you for the map!!!
I'm about halfway through and already it's one of my favorite videos of yours!
Enjoyed the video; mirrors my style of photography; combining hiking and photgraphy.
