You make a good point, "always keep your head an a swivel." The mountain may look "lit up", but the composition, from where he's siting, looks kinda blah. That hill in the foreground doesn't appeal to me, it's really just an obstruction.

@@EdAb Looks like there may have been reflection potential with a shift to the right a hundred feet or so. It'd have at least been worth a try with that gorgeous light. Even an intimate closeup may have been appropriate with that mountain face. Though the image he chose to go for there worked out beautifully too.

2 minutes in you got stuck in the snow, and I'm a friendly Canadian here to help you avoid this in the future. If you EVER get stuck like this, don't try to stand up, that's pointless. If you fail once, you'll fail 100 times. Roll onto your stomach and push up to your hands and knees. Bring your dominate foot forward (If you dont know which one that is, imagine running and sliding on ice. Which ever foot is forward, that's your dominate foot) and once you have your foot flat and on one knee, pray for a moment. Think of your wife. And stand up in one smooth motion. This displaces your weight amongst a larger area, and lets you stand up.

You can't beat walking in deep snow for great cardio. I get to do it at least a few times each winter here in western New York. I'm a big boy and when you go down it is hard to get back up. You've got to just roll out of it. I love the silence of snow and the soft muffled sounds when it is actually coming down is even better. It certainly has a restorative effect on the soul. What I am finding fascinating is having a clique of photographers in the one location and comparing what they come up with. Nick Page was a little more to the left at the first location and managed to move the annoying tree to the right of the creek.
