Just so Sad that Ben was not there with them, on this Reunion Tour! R.I.P. Ben & more Recently Rik!. God Bless the Cars, a Timeless Band!. Legends in their own Right, ahead of their time!.
I also have been blessed to have grown up in the 80s was a beautiful time and so much great music was available. I had the pleasure of seeing them also at the Sports Arena & Forum in Los Angeles. With my friends I will never forget how they played it was magical. Till the end they will always be my favorite band. Very sad Ben left us too early and Ric. Thanks to you the Cars for all your music & some of my best memories & good times of my life.
The first time I remember hearing this song was on the radio, I was in first grade and living in Kansas. I wanted to hear it again, I just thought the song was SO well put together. You could REALLY get the vibe of this song.
I saw them back in 82 at the L.A Sports Arena I was 18 yrs old and I still get sentimental i was so blessed to see them good seats, good times. It's Ric that "wears those eyes".
Beautiful,idol,idol......from Chile...( In spanish)...marcaron a miles de generaciones con su música,a pesar de sus partidas al cielo, jamàs los olvidaremos....for ever the cars......idols
Meg Nite I met him a week ago at an art gallery in Boca Raton, they were exhibiting and selling Ric's paintings... Paulina and their sons were there, too -- amazing experience!!!
Even though Ric Ocasek claimed that accomodating a bass player would be considered rather insulting to Ben Orr's memory, I personally don't think it would hurt for them to hire a bass player. It's obvious that The Cars will never be the same without Benjamin Orr but simply by hiring a bass player to help them fill in some additional rhythm that they are missing wouldn't hurt. The Cars are my all time favourite band but I only wish Benjamin Orr was still alive so he could have reunited with the remaining four. Rest In Peace Ben! We miss you! ~Dutch
I .....loved this song sooooo much , i just had to learne it on EVERY INSTRUMENT THEY PLAY ( and that's NOT bragging .... I JUST LOOOOOVE THIS SONG YOU GUYS ).
They still sound amazing, live...although the synthesized bass is just not the same Cars classic sound...there's such an unmistakable absence without Ben, but the remaining Cars still touch the soul with their genius talents...they still fulfill my expectations of great music, and still are my favorite band, even sans Ben. Elliot's still got it too ~ in every way! ;)
Thank you for posting this! For some reason, it bothers me when someone's wearing an guitar and not playing it. I know this song inside and out pretty well, and I could certainly imagine subtle little parts for Ric to play. And I really hate to say this, but we're all probably thinking it: I can't help wondering how much better those backup vocals would have sounded, had a certain bassist not gone and died on us! But all in all, a very heartfelt rendition of a truly beautiful song!
Great post for Cars fans like me! Thank you. Great sound and images from 2011: 33 yrs after the band's debut. Classic Cars song, showing their evolvement as artists on full display on Shake It Up (1981) which is #2 on my list of Top 5 Cars albums (1978-1984) ever behind Candy-O (#1) and the band's debut (#3). Glad it is preserved forever for historical significance. Nov 2020
Knew is was Greg by his body motion. Fan from way back when and now! I pray Ric, Elliot, Greg and David do one more tour. Getting older and one last Cars concert is on my bucket list.
The remaining members of The Cars decided that they would not replace Benjamin Orr after he passed away. Kind of shows how different The Cars were not only musically but also in their philosophy on what constitutes "the band." Most bands are only too happy to fire fellow members so that they can replace them with a studio musician and take their former member's share of the profits.
It is good to see those guys play together again. Now Greg Hawkes could have played the bass notes like Ray Manzarek did for the Doors when they started. But not having that vocal presence of Ben does make it sound a little incomplete. But sometimes you can't have everything you want or desire!
truly professional in every way. I don't think these guys really even had to try. It all just came natural to them, they're gifted, really gifted, these kind of people don't come along every day. Is there another Benjamin Orr? I don't think so. It's great because NO ONE can peg-pigeon hole a band like this, they're one of a kind, a true original-when they're gone they're gone, unlike generic 'anybody can do it' unoriginal fake plastic bands-wallpaper bands. The Cars, are keepers, others, trash.
I totally 100% agree, The Cars are a true slice of Americana if ever a band was one. Rock n roll was invented here, and The Cars in their incredibly unique way definitely contributed. I know for who and what they are, the music they play, the songs, for their era, they ARE rock n roll at it's finest. Horrible logo, I just don't get that. They're an all-american band that plays music you always expected to come along, and when it did, it was no surprise. Another band that makes true art.
girls should dancing on stage with band members, slow dancing, this is a very touching romantic band, a mirrorball should be going on this song. I don't think people of today get this band like the real us - I'm 46 definitely 80s kid all the way-80s forever! and anything before the 80s rocks too.......just not trash from 90s to today-90s had its share of a few things here and there, then 2000s came along and it started dying, dying, dying, DEAD. This is a special band, special era for spec peopl
i was thinking the same thing. it's the keyboard. maybe partly coming thru that SVT 8x10? another band w/ this same line up is The Dandy Warhols. 2 guits, synth n drums. cheers
They use both a bass organ as well as a track bass. Just like Ray Manzarek of The Doors did, as they never had a bass player. Mostly a track for bass. Saw The Cars a few times back in the day and they were heavy on using tracks and tapes during their live shows. Example Ben never played bass on DRIVE live on the Heartbeat City Tour. Look at any live video of DRIVE. Also a lot of techno track drums were used towards the end of their careers. Which caused a bad rift between David Robinson and boss Ric Ocasek.
this particular ttrack'im not the oone'are some of the best compostions done along with heart beat city and touch and go. this what i mean by awesome new wave rules you know ur one of the best when you can pack 70 or 80 thousand strong stadium wise. Not. like todays toilet music sung by nobodies using sex & nudity to sell their crap which is what it is no crestivity or effort to be set apart. The Cars are truly one one of the true super groups of the rock era. too bad since 2000 to present no group can be really classified as a true super group .the last. ones were from the 90s depeche mode the cure and smashing pumpkin's to name a few. after the 90s its like music became toilet music need i say more
R.I.P. Ric Ocasek :( My favorite song of yours.
Still hits right to the deepest strings of the soul. An absolutely beautiful song.
Just so Sad that Ben was not there with them, on this Reunion Tour! R.I.P. Ben & more Recently Rik!. God Bless the Cars, a Timeless Band!. Legends in their own Right, ahead of their time!.
Extraordinaria banda. Ya son leyenda de la música.
Still a beautiful song. This song came out when I was 18. I listen to it, and I'm 18 again. Then it's over and I'm 53.
I'm 46 my dad was 20 years old we lived in Japan he was in the air Force all I remember is him listening to the cars a lot of ttebble
I also have been blessed to have grown up in the 80s was a beautiful time and so much great music was available. I had the pleasure of seeing them also at the Sports Arena & Forum in Los Angeles. Thanks to you the Cars for all your music & some of my best memories & good times of my life.
Still one of favorite songs no matter what version.R.I.P Ric and Ben.
EXCELENTE BANDA LEGENDARIA, ESTA CANCION ES DE MIS FAVORITAS DE SU REPETORIO
This song always sounded so sad to me and without Ben on the backing vocals and bass it sounds even sadder.
Love these guys. Rest in Peace Ben.
Easton = PURE F’KN MAGIC.
Supremely talented guitarist.
The first time I remember hearing this song was on the radio, I was in first grade and living in Kansas. I wanted to hear it again, I just thought the song was SO well put together. You could REALLY get the vibe of this song.
Great Hawkes had the amazing ability to put the perfect keyboard bridge in many tunes. This one is no exception.
I saw them back in 82 at the L.A Sports Arena I was 18 yrs old and I still get sentimental i was so blessed to see them good seats, good times.
It's Ric that "wears those eyes".
I heard this tonight for the first time in decades and knew it right off.
Beautiful,idol,idol......from Chile...( In spanish)...marcaron a miles de generaciones con su música,a pesar de sus partidas al cielo, jamàs los olvidaremos....for ever the cars......idols
God bless them forever im so glad I saw them all together an young rip Benjamin Orr an Ric Ocasek...
Hello June 2022 this song has been stuck in my head for days now
Music forever!
I would die if I ever saw Ric. He is so damn great.
Meg Nite I met him a week ago at an art gallery in Boca Raton, they were exhibiting and selling Ric's paintings... Paulina and their sons were there, too -- amazing experience!!!

Great, now learn how to spell "learn."

Gran cancion todo un clasico..

+lakefloor and Ben was the true backbone of this group- many do not realize he was the alpha dog...
That's because in a lot of the bands or groups today, there's no sense of loyalty. Most of them are basically slapped together and/or manufactured.
Great Live version!
Very good !❤️❤️❤️
DE LUJO!!!!
Classic song
RIP !!!!

It was an amazing show, glad to see this! Was this taken in the balcony?

Glad they did this live on the last tour. Was it ever done live back when Ben was alive?

So sad watching this without Ben.
Ben Orr
where are the Saws a Square Sounds ? .
H I M N O ...
Is this a pre recorded bass or is the keyboard playing the low notes???
i was thinking the same thing. it's the keyboard. maybe partly coming thru that SVT 8x10? another band w/ this same line up is The Dandy Warhols. 2 guits, synth n drums. cheers

DEDICADA A LA PERSONA QUE ALGUNA VEZ FUE TODO ABSOLUTAMENTE PARA MI... JAMAS OLVIDARTE GORDA
The nose knows….
Ric Ocasek is just a taller lanky version of Roy Orbison :)
