everything about this is so 80s and i love it
So true the synths are killer so New Wave!
I just now realized that this is a reggae song! I have listened to this song since 1985, when I was 19 years old.
2024 and this song really sounds perfect it still Rocks even after All these Years.
The Cars were one of a kind defined music in so many ways.
Godspeed Benjamin and Ric 🙏🙏
From the 🇬🇧
Ethiopians aren’t worth it
Africa will always be a disaster
Music was better back then bc people had talent knew how to play instruments and could write more than one significant line... It's a story, a journey and a destination shared with the audience...
Fabulous performance, amazing sounds these guys produced. RIP Ric and Benjamin.
and both, but especially Ric, are so underrated as songwriters...
Such a great band so unique. RIP to the members no longer with us and to the ones that are I hope you are well and good and thanks for all your amazing songs intertwining within my memories.
RIP Ben and Ric you are missed!
I met Ric in a elevator at the Holiday Inn next to Mile high stadium, 2:00am, on 6/16/1979. I'm 5'9, so when a 6'4 guy in boots and big hair, sunglasses and a nice suit walks in, you take notice. He was a little nervous but talked to me for a couple minutes. We talked about the concert they were headlining later that day. Very cool guy.
Yes. I got that watching him. Not surprised by the encounter. To me, most great successful people are humble in person.
When i listen to this moments, i feel just like my soul left my body, and travell in time
Here in August 2023. 1 of the most underrated songs this of the 80s in my view!!! Shame. Brilliant song. RIP Ric Ocasek. 🙏
This song seemed to creep up on me over time. Now I love it.
What an amazing performance by a very talented group of guys. The Cars are Legends!
Eliot is just such an awesome guitar player and he Deserves all the success he has acquired one of my all time favorite players love his cool licks and style of playing guitar 🎸 big big fan of the cars they were the soundtrack of my youth in the 1980s I was twenty years old then and it was the 80s lol thanks for the amazing sounds all of the band of the cars miss Ben and Rick life is a little less without them in the world. anyways I love the cars and still listening every day Heartbeat city and all mixed up moving in stereo awesome stuff and timeless music 🎶
What a wonderful time to experience life on Earth. Im ever glad i grew up in the 80s.. The word really sucks now. Just being real. The music is nothing like it was back then. Not even close. Its Dead.. It was Aliv back then. And Real! Love and Peace to All!!!
To be honest...this song is MTV generated junk.
You’d be surprised. Today there are so many genres and sub genres that produce wonderfully vibrant and diverse music that is like nothing created in previous eras. Modern music is much more than mainstream pop, and I urge you to dive deeper into contemporary music, because there is a plethora of amazing tracks, albums, and artists that are put out every day.
Wow.. When someone comments their own personal opinion. There are always a few Trolls scavenging through the section to try and tell me that im not allowed to have it. Do like i have, and leave your own opinion. My ears and my taste are exactly that. MINE.. Its a treasure to me to ve completely honest, and i do not have the time to dive deep in todays music. I am nostalgic and set in my own ways. Lol.. I dont understand ones need to try and put two sense where it was not needed. So Honestly i like this song just the way it is. MTV rotated and All. Todays music does not interest me at ALL.. And its not going to change. Im glad y'all like what y'all like. Keep on being independent thinkers and dig what you dig. Because you know what? I CAN DIG THAT..
@@RobertFairweatherMusic I felt like everything after Candy-O lacked the heart and emotion of the early Cars. This song, Heartbeat city, has some of that emotion and artistic magic of the early Cars songs. The lyrics and music together paint a picture in my mind about a girl and time that Ric is trying to relate to the listener, a thing that Ric successfully did in the other great songs that he wrote.
Funny thing is, back in the 1980s, there was a vocal minority saying that 80s music lacked soul and was dead.
“Why can’t we have music like the 1960s where music changed the world” was their cry.
There is some good music out today. It’s just a little harder to find. The record industry doesn’t market it very well.
I will never forget this day.
Wish this song could go on forever. Loved it since I first heard it in the summer of ‘84
Adore the original. The cars absolutely nailed their live aid performance. One of America's best new wave bands
99% nailed it, but I heard some missed bass notes at 1:50 ( I think...this is one song of theirs I'm not as familiar with.)
This is the best live performance I had ever heard they killed it. It was hot. I loved it just as much as the original. If not more it was great, and it’s fantastic now didn’t miss a beat love this song still do good job guys!!❤
Impecable ..como olvidar tanta belleza en las canciones gracias te cars por tu legado.ric ocasek Benjamín orr QEPD.
Another super hit from this band. Too bad there will never be any more hits from them...
Great of them to contribute their time, talent and money to this worthwhile cause. RIP Ric and Benjamin. Your music will live forever.
What a song! 40 years still gives me chills
So sad to hear you left Ric, I know God is saying “I’m glad you made it” and Benjamin is saying “what took you so long”. R.I.P
MrParisienWalkways very clever well done
MrParisienWalkways Uh legends never ever die and Benjamin lives on
MrParisienWalkways I feel connected to him
Though I never knew you: "I miss you so badly" RIP Ric Ocasek 🙏🌟🎸 Musical genius
😁 🙌 😁
Zeppelin is my all time fav, but dear God I love The Cars!! After watching this performance, I second guess everything...
Utterly, utterly superb.
I grew up in S. Philadelphia. I rode my bike from my house to about two blocks from JFK stadium, climbed a tree and was fortunate to hear the CARS set live. It was, and is a wonderful memory.
my favorite song from the album, so mellow and beautiful
YeH,,,,o agree ,,,music before s better than now,,,,I love ds song,,favorite ever.....
Heartbeat City, it's my life.
One of the best Live performances by the Cars.
You hear he misses the first two sentences?
Yup! Ben Orr said that Ric was nervous.
One of the coolest bands ever.
the most geeky looking play the coolest stuff.lol
100%!!!!
@@GuitarguyRichard56 there is nothing geeky about Benjamin Orr
@@kathygrinder3076 He looked incredible especially at Live Aid, and i love his voice. I think he was a really great guy too.
I thought they were so cool at 10
At 41 they seem even more so
Jesus, these were the years.
The bass drum have a nice sound💥
The greatest music of the era
Ric actually sounds better live than on the record. Thank God these guys finally got in the Hall of Fame, they were masters! Elliot Easton is a criminally underrated guitarist too.
Elliot Easton knows music, he went to Berklee College of Music
Paul I Everybody says that about Elliot Easton, which means he isn’t underrated. In the beginning he slouched and wore very baggy shirts. If he had worn tighter clothes and had better posture he would have had lots of attention on stage and he knew that. Obviously, that wasn’t the persona he wanted. I like his personal style in this performance. It’s all in the past. Everyone who listened knew he was/is a great musician.
Without Greg Hawkes, this band would have never made it. He had more to do with the overall Cars sound than anyone.
I personally texted the R&R HoF committee and laid them out for not selecting the fan favorite band, The Cars
Elliot Easton’s career is far from over. No one who plays guitar 🎸.and listens to Elliot’s compositional solos, short or long, must be amazed. No one but Elliot could carry us away with beautiful solos, and give The Cars his signature work.!They are absolutely a perfect fit in each song. Inspiring work. Thank you Elliot Easton!!

Ric said in one interview ''I'm the luckiest man in the world'' Ric had a great life.
R.I.P.
Thank you for this. ❤
Apart from the end of his life when his wife left him for another man, and the following ill health, then dying alone, he said his wife had abandoned him.
Women, some good, some not so....
Yes, yes I am. Read up, and you will find that all the points I stated are true, he died alone! ill health, he had just undergone heart surgery they don’t perform that for the sake of it. Ric wrote his wife out of his will because she had abandoned him. See the pictures with her new man before Ric’s death. Yeah I’m sure.

What an amazing band...so influential..So many bands wouldn't be here without The Cars. Totally original sound ,ideas, and musicianship. Brilliant
On this date, I was a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, California as a young 21-year old Marine preparing to deploy to Southeast Asia for 4 1/2-months. Our first port-call after departing San Diego was Subic Bay, Philippines and next was Fremantle (Perth), Australia as well as other awesome places in the Orient. Everywhere we visited, all of the clubs were playing The Cars music. The 80's was an absolute awesome time to be young. I am 60 now and very much still young in spirit and in attitude. Wow, where did life go? ------ Semper Fi!!!!
I was an airwinger going to A-school at NAS Millington, TN on that date. My first duty station after framp was MCAS El Toro, just up the I-5 from you at Pendleton. We made regular WestPac's on the Ranger to the places you listed above and I remember all the great American music played wherever we port called. Great times.
Semper Fi brother
@@wysiwyg8066 Back at you brother. The 80s were a great time to be in the military. I served in the Corps from 1982 to 2002. I served on Marine Barracks duty in Subic Bay from 1986 to 1989. AWESOME times indeed. I live in San Antonio, Texas now. But I lived in the Philippines from 2012 to 2016. My family and I go back quite often. ---- Semper Fi family!!!!
My brother was stationed in Long Beach (1990-1996) 3rd ANGLICO Airborne during Desert Storm. Thank you for your service to our great country!
Oh station in Germany up near Bremen We went to a friends house and watched it from England and then we took a break and then we turned the TV on and washed it from JFK in Philadelphia there it was an all night party is almost as good as being at both concerts
Thank you my brother 🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I could listen to this song over and over again!!! Electrifying performance!!!!
Such a beautiful song. Like you, I'll never tire of this.
‘Electrifying performance’? You must be watching a different video. Great song. Boring group live. Some bands are just better listened to on headphones and not seen live. The Cars are one of those bands.

When music was music. Beautiful music and beautiful times!!😊😊
The tempo, the music, the sound, the backing vocals, the drums, the melodies, the performing of this song is excellent- pure magic!
Yep, pure magic indeed!
Back then young people learned instruments and wrote music. Now it's cell phones and computer games.
Yes it is...
Don't get me wrong I love The Cars but- back when every one was playing to a backing track.
The backing vocals are pre-recorded.

Rest in peace Ric. Thanks for the awesome music.
Im not even a drummer and I can feel that this guy's drumming is world-class solid. . . . like a metronome. Long live the Cars!
He is actually playing to a click track...see the headphones?
And the bass drum is one of those awful electronic ones that were popular in the early 80s in the UK, the Americans caught up later on. Ugh terrible sound.
