Her voice....I can't believe how beautiful it is live
She(Chrissy Hynde) and her voice are both beautiful in this video.
2022
Have listened to the studio but that is the first time I ever seen that live. Kick-Ass!!!
Around 1985 here in Providence I received free tickets to the Pretenders, I knew then from MTV, never would think to see them live...they blew me away, they rocked
That is exactly what I thought about her voice in a live performance! Chrissy rocks
One of the best female singers ever existed. Incredible voice.
I agree
qqqqqqq
Ann Wilson is the best, not one of the best
Esa es una de las agrupaciones del rock que han trascendido en la historia de la música y esa es una de las canción es más hermosa yo siempre la escucho en mi móvil desde República dominicana
Pat benatar?
What a voice! No auto tune, no plugins... only talent and a place for sing... Outstanding!!
We just didn't realize how great we had it back then, We had the best music 50's 60's 70's and 80's, best musicians. Great concerts.
and the concert tickets were cheap
I'd throw the 90s in there too. Basically pre-internet and pre-smart phones.
And then one day in the early 21st century shit (aka Autotune) happened.
And 90z too lol
Now 2020 full garbage hip hop type of thing and all computer generated music
Back before social media, auto tune, and reality TV. God Bless the 80's, when you actually had to have talent to be successful.
John Cook Amen to that man!
YES!
And Back when a band was a band...
I pity kids of today. Pop music is shite, you can’t say boo to a goose and your monitored 24-7
I know right
Underrated lyricist. This girl could write legendary lines.
plays every morning on my way to work....sort of softens the blow
The emotion conveyed in Hynde's vocals is stunning. The heartache is palpable.
Wondering if this song was written about James Honeyman Scott or Pete Farndon.
I'm 65 years old and becoming reconciled to the fact that I'll probably never marry Chrissie Hynde.
Hang in there -- She'll come around!
Love the optimism
A real woman.
Join the queue, mate.
I sent my proposal..returned Sad Bastard UNKOWN.
So glad I'm an 80's child! What a time to be young and alive. Things were so much better back then. No computers, no cell phones. People experiencing things together and being unified. It was great!
Had a tv staion to play radio for us in videos
@@roychapican8993 I still remember when Thriller video was premiered!
@ Derek Anderson: sadly, change isn't ALWAYS forward. Hopefully, an ajustment will be made..histiorically, that is usually true. But the net is a powerful weapon, for evil, as WELL as good...
Goddamn! I’m crying. Oh how I love this song. Chrissie KILLED IT!!!!!!!! Where has music gone? I’m not saying there’s nothing good out there today, but there will never be the glory days of music from those 40 years. The 60’s-90’s! There will never be a concert like Live Aid EVER! Coachella has had its moments, but that all ended after 2011.
sure sure
Music hasnt gone anywhere. Youre just getting old and not looking for it anymore like you did when you were young. There is a shit ton of excellent bands out there. You just dont know about them.
Instantly recognizable voice. One of the best. I’ve never heard any other voice close to hers. So good.
Agreed! And the bit starting at 2:30 never fails to give a thrill -- one of the most astonishing few seconds of vocal anywhere, to my ears (especially on the studio version with her overdubbing)...
Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs is the only vocalist with a similar tone imo
Absolutely

This amazes me, this Lady sounds better live than record.
Totally agree 100 percent what a voice …
Yeaaa❤❤❤
And the LYRICS to this song… timeless Shakespearean quality. “The phone, TV and the news of the world / Got in the house like a pigeon from hell “. “Like a break in the battle was your part / In the wretched life of a lonely heart”
Possibly the greatest song ever written
I bought The Pretenders’ “Learning to Crawl” album when it came out… One of the best albums to come out in the 80s. Still holds up today
Outstanding.
Well I bought the self titled debut album in 1980 after seeing the poster on Johnny Fevers door on WKRP in Cinncinati
Great album start to finish
@@garyc39 KRP sold a lot of albums.
I saw The Pretenders in the 80s then again around 2012 and Chrissie’s voice was unchanged - perfect. They are an amazing live band.
How great. My mum loved the pretenders. 🤗
Anyone else miss the 80’s? At least one thing during the quarantine, was able to go back and see the videos. Class of ‘88

I appreciate her music more and more and more as I grow older.
@ 2:45 I honestly thought she was going to break down...the emotion in her voice and that she recorded this just after James Honeyman-Scott's death. Astonishingly good vocals!
Yes! some sources say she would get emotional on stage while singing this song. I could definitely see it here.
You saw that too.
Context, for this song and performance, is everything. I choked up watching her because, like you, I know what just recently happened to her, the band/ families, and us fans of the great JHS!
This performance from Live Aid in 1985 took place three years after Jimmy Scott's death.

Chrissie great voice, those women of rock in the 80's ❤️
Her voice is unique!!

So is mine.
more like it was
@@JohnnyMacaw What do you mean by “was”? Last I heard she still sounded great.
Amazing vocal range
when she sings " Those were the happiest days of my life " I get goose bumps
A talented strong woman
Who never had to think about being one
One of the unique players of the greatest rock and roll era in history
Awesome talent
here here 🥳🥳
Her thoughtful music/message making the world a better place
What he said!! On the money.
I agree 100 %
One of the unique voices in rock, immediately recognizable. My favorite Pretenders song.
The fact that she still performs today and still has a good voice, 37yrs later, also quite remarkable.
There will never be another era like the 80s!
Ooooh yes my friend! That decade was fantastic unbelievable and unforgettable but not only for music! Culture and fashion was amazing too! You agree?
I agree. Music wise, it seems like people were being creative enough with electronic instruments, but still needed talent for it. Now, everything is electronic, talent isn’t on the forefront. Shame.
Shes awsome...what emotion. The Pretenders kicked it!....great tunes for decades to come....Soul Music!
Her voice, from 1985 to 2022,never changed ❤
Chrissie Hynde has a pure rock voice. Never tired of hearing her
Never get tired of this woman. Aside from being drop dead gorgeous what a great voice and band to go with her! Drums and that guitar and bass....wow.
In 80s i was a teenage days
There's a lot of great artist
The Pretenders one of them
I had a great time in the 80s
80s will be forever
A few years ago a old friend and co worker of mine passed away. She loved the Pretenders. Whenever I listen to them I think of her. I sing, smile and get teary. RIP Sylvia 🤘❤️
I wouldn't classify myself as much of a Pretenders fan as there's only a handful of their songs I could honestly say I love, but that moment (around 2:30 in this video) where Chrissie's voice just soars into "part" is one of THE great moments in rock music in my opinion. It knocks me out every time I hear it.
Yeah, it is beautiful.
OMG YES!!!
I absolutely love this woman. She is to be compared to no one. That voice, hauntingly beautiful.
This is a fantastic performance AND a great recording. For all the tech glitches and erased material that plagued Live Aid, it’s wonderful that this exists.
Still gives me goose bumps after all these years.
58 years old, I live for music! Master!!! Relief for the soul.
Pure talent, musicians enjoying their music, and sharing it with us, just the way it's supposed to be...
The sort of song that separates the players from the great players
totally agree.
Great musicians are exactly that… they don’t need a studio to sound good.
Sort of CROWD
Live Aid put the best music in history all on a stage together.
An incredible, fortuitous moment in music history, brought about by a sad but galvanizing cause.
Thank you all for having done it. Incredible

God I love her passion !
The awesome days an all with no stinking internet ! Just good people !
true!
James Honeyman-Scott is definitely the progenitor of the Pretenders' sound but Robbie McIntosh here is equally fabulous. A testament to Chrissie's genius!
Chrissie's. Music. A. Very. Beautiful. Lady. With. A. Very. Beautiful. Voice. I. Love. The. Pretenders !!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I saw all of this concert im so lucky she and the preteders were on at 10 am , so great what a day it was perfect 1985 lol so great

Discovering these wonderful musics n the days of quarantine .
I saw pretender in rome in 1987 fantastic
This song is great, what a refreshing group.
Quarantine........Brought to you by the liars who rule Communist China........
love this voice woww🥰
An all time great song and artist ! For those lamenting the old songs I can say there are many new songs released in last 10 years that have the same power . Keep an open mind to these contemporary talented song writers.
Excellent. Chrissie's voice just hits me right in the heart ❤
Paul. You. Are definitely. 👍. Right
For those who are new or only know a pair of songs , I encourage them to listen the first album, absolutely a masterpiece, the real Pretenders....... Don't forget to buy this vinyl!
Loved them from when Brass in the pocket came out as a single. I got the chance to see them in concert in the 80's. It was the Get Close album tour. They were fantastic. Still a tight New Wave band. Great show!
At the end when she sang “those were the happiest days of my life” emotional gold
I love the passion she sings with at the lyric" those were the happiest days of my life"
She wrote the song for James Honeyman-Scott who was the original lead guitar who died of an accidental drug overdose. She was devastated by his death and you picked up on her passion as she sings it for James.
@@888strummer I never knew that! Thank you. That makes it even more to me!
@@888strummer how you know that?... proof?
@@chrischampagne9217 She has said over the years she always liked James Honeyman-Scott the most and she was absolutely crushed when he died. The songs opening lyrics about "picture of you" referred to Ray Davies of the Kinks who she had her daughter with; but when JHS died, she has always said it changed everything and the song was a tribute for him. This website touches on it briefly as do many interviews over the years. When she talks about JHS you can see it in her

Chrissy Hines is from Ohio and a true vegan and animal activist you go Chrissy no matter what people say 1977-1980's brought great music from UK and too US. That home girl knows how to rock n roll.
Her voice is just like she singing on her albums. Great voice
This concert was utterly impossible. All that incrtedible talent, together at one time, all in one place.
Insane. Geldof is Superman.
Well done to Chrissie H and her magnificent band. Awesome! Definitely the "happiest days of my life " going back. A real treat for those in Philadeiphia on the day, and for us on youtube years later.. Love your voice. Take care, lovely lady xxx
Favourite Pretenders song. This and _Message of love._
Loved this song when it came out and still do all these years later. Great job band.
I saw the pretenders live around 1985 at Elland Road, Leeds, England, they were the main support for U2 on the Joshua tree tour, fantastic day
Arguably one of the best singers ANNDDD can play Geeeeetarrrrr while doin so!!! Now thats talent
How about we do this again in 2025? It was a great success in 1985 and did a lot of good for people in Ethiopia. Africa hasn't stopped needing our help, so let's do it again with the biggest artists in the world.
2019. I finally saw her last yr and she's still kicking major ass
maravilhosa para o resto da vida.
Heard this song a hundred times, way back then and liked it. Being quarantined, I appreciate her voice even more, in a way I hadn't before.
Im slowly realizing this was the greatest day in live music history. Will never happen again. R.I.P. real music, and thanks for the good times.

Muito obrigado The Pretenders
Best thing to ever come out of Akron, Ohio.
Wish i went to live aid, however, got to see The Pretenders at Wembley in 2019, still sounding great!
Beautiful voice and amazing version of this tune. Back in the days when England was still a free country....and had pride in itself.

Such a cool song, and what a groovy voice. The first time I heard this song, I knew it was great. Here it is, all these years later, and it's still a cool song, with her groovy voice. I won't rip on today's artists, but I will say that this song is immortal. Just a lovely song.
The Pretenders, their style, their front woman, their guitar sound, their beat, and their drive thank you for a of it.
