I am here to inform you that, somehow, against all odds, that new Ted series is very good. Thirteen years after the first film released, an ill-advised prequel sitcom has hit Peacock, and not only is it a pretty great show, it’s easily the best version of Ted. In fact, it has me questioning why this wasn’t a family sitcom in the first place. And, based on the audience reactions to the series, it seems like most people are in agreement, the show is seeing a ton of praise and clips are going viral every day. I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this series, but after binging the series and rewatching the films, it’s so clear to me WHY this project worked so well. So let’s dive into the world of TED… a sentence I never thought I’d ever say.

One of the reasons this show works better than other Seth McFarlane shows is that all characters stay consistent, in Family guy Lois can either be the moral compass or an absolute selfish psychopath
As seen with the Orville, when Seth is passionate about a project, it usually ends up good
The characters in American Dad are pretty consistent too though Seth isn’t involved in the writing. Though he isn’t with Family Guy too tbf.
@@pandogstudios1512 idk Stan goes from a satire of the conservative Republican father with American values into an unhinged sociopath/goofy muthf*cka in later seasons haha. I stopped watching around season 10 or 11
@@pandogstudios1512Seth has said he's pretty much done with producing animated shows and is focusing on live action stuff now.
@@kevinnelson66 he did?
Part wants to imagine Seth used the Tes series as an excuse recapture the charm of the classic seasons of family guy, which I honestly wouldn’t blame him for if that’s to be the case.
I mean Family Guy had to have gotten popular for a reason, and not just because of its crude humor
@@xavierjuno4572 it kinda is
Watching the show, it really is just live action Family Guy. The two shows even have the same music composer. Same type of pacing just in a longer format.
@@blazypoo1723 Most of the characters casted in the show, including special guest stars have also done voice work for family guy. the first episode we see the old voice actor of Cleveland Brown even appear.
@@blazypoo1723 it’s the same voice actors too. Weird seeing them in person.
Another thing I liked about this show is the extra layer for Matty
According to Susan, on their first date, while he was still this easily enraged guy, he was actually pretty sweet to her and made a wonderful first date after leaving a concert (that he worked hard for) out of a pity reason.
It also shows that he always been angry, but wasn’t a complete ass. And what was told in the Christmas episode, his family life was horrible. Granted, it doesn’t excuse his behaviour, but it does explain it.
Another thing that was shown is his time in Vietnam. John said he was disappointed when he was taken back home. But at the prom episode, he openly stated, during his prep talk to John, that he wasn’t the “good guy” during the war. For someone who is racist, that takes a lot to admit
Yes, he’s still a relatively bad person who lost on how to treat his wife, especially during their date night episode, it’s clear he isn’t all bad and I would like to see an episode during his work day and see if that’s the source of his stress. He did always complain about working hard and felt no one appreciates it
Matty was surprisingly one of the deepest characters in the show, and it's crazy how amazing of an arch he had considering when you first see him, you think he's just gunna be the regular 1 dimensional boston racist guy trope, but he becomes one of the peaks of the show
Susan reminds me so much of my grandmother. She was such a innocent and wholesome character that absolutely melted my heart.
I wished in Ted 2 that instead of referring to Mila Kunis's character as having been the "wrong woman" for John they would've just made a joke out of her absence, like alluding to her having met some horrible fate but never specifying what it was
Omg that would have been way better
“They got her”
“What does that mean?”
😂
@@robertdelossantos5844 Or even more vague, but every time someone brings it off they stare off into the distance, maybe some sound effect playing, like vicious dogs attacking someone
@@vicapple6663 Or what if those sounds changed every single time? One time, it's dogs, the next time it's the sound of a crash, then shots fired, etc.
@@G2Quiznos025 exactly what I was thinking haha
Story aside, I love the second Ted movie. The comedy is so fucking good and gave us a great meme format too.
The scene where Ted argues with his neighbour, only for them to immediately join forces to argue with a polite old lady always gets me
"polite" old lady, haha yeah...
Before Ted became a cynical adult he was actually considerate of others I mean he’s still a bit of a jerk but it’s so different
In the movies Ted was always ready to fight and throw hands
But in the show Ted uses words and tries to calmly De-escalate a situation
Blaire seems like an important figure in their lives wonder why she was never mentioned in the movies
She was probably just a thought for the show only since they had to make it seem believable
They needed a Mila Kunis type voice of reason to nag the stoner and his teddy bear
@@richborn6700Blaire isn’t that at all tho she’s pretty chill and ethical
@@taco2215maybe
You can def tell when Seth is passionate about a project . His comedy can work very very well if he puts effort into it. Seasons 1-4 of family man , the Orville and now ofc this !
I wasn't expecting anything from the goddamn ted show and i was so damn surprised by how good the show was
I really enjoyed the first season of the Ted tv series! It was a real treat to hear Seth Macfarlane reprise his role as the character after almost a decade since Ted 2 came out.
I was shocked on how good the show was and every episode made me smile and laugh.
I just hope we get more of ted show. and seeing if more toys come to life lol hell get a girl bear for him lol
I really enjoyed it. Hopefully, they will come back for his senior year.
I remember watching Ted as a kid when it came out and thought it was good. The second one is a...guilty pleasure 😅 I'll have to give the show a try; I always wondered what they're childhood was like
Ima be honest i got my expectations up to high for the show it was just odd to me thought it would be better
The only thing that holds the show back is that we know how it all works out essentially. Character development and long term love, stopping drugs or anything isn’t possible since it would contradict the events of the movie
While we know what happens to the 2 main characters, the show has done a good job also introducing his whole family. Do we know how that ends? I dont remember but I know Blaire wasn’t in the movies.
What I didn’t like about the movies is that , to me, they heavily relied on the celebrity cameos and had them do or say something gross, profane, or out of character than what they usually are known for. It got annoying very quick. Haven’t seen the show yet but it looks like there aren’t any big time celebrities in it, so that’s a good sign.
The funny thing is that when you said that you wanted the shows episodes to air weekly it reminded me that is how the show is airing in Canada with each episode coming out on steaming on the same day that it aired on the Canadian cable channel showcase
Love the show and the movies. You did great going over them. Only thing I gotta say is that Thunder buddy's song was amazing and holds up. Saw Ted with friends and that song always made us laugh. Glad it got a callback
Honestly, I'm incredibly happy so many big CZcamsr's like yourself are singing such high praises for this show. I decided to give it a go before any of these videos came out and fell in love with it. It's significantly better than the films, and I'm really glad it's garnered so much appreciation.
Im hoping for multiple seasons or a ted 3 that i think could explore why blaire is absent in the other two films
I'm hoping since in the show she's level headed and sort of responsible , I would like to think in the movies she spiral out of control, like she just snapped but hoping if there's a 3rd they end up helping her
I did not expect to laugh out loud multiple times in the first episode
Honestly, I had low expectations for the show but after watching it not too long ago, I have to say I really feel like they really pulled it off. And the kid who played John Bennett I thought did a fantastic job, just capturing the essence, and the mannerisms of exactly how Mark Wahlberg would play him. And I have to say the CGI for Ted looks absolutely 10 times better than the CGI looked in the movies. And honestly, I feel like the idea of it being a family sitcom worked way more better. And the character of Blair I thought at first I thought I wasn’t gonna like because she just came off to me at first as a total Buzzkill when you get to know her she’s actually not all that bad. Plus, I hate to say this I know this might be blasphemy for you, but I personally enjoyed Ted 2 it’s a guilty pleasure of mine. But I do understand the flaws that the movie has but I kind of feel like the second film is a little bit more funnier than the first film that’s just me. But I will agree. I do think it’s stupid that they just completely toss away all of the progression that the first film made at the end. But I don’t doubt the possibility of the fact that Lori and John got divorced because I mean it’s realistic because that’s something that happens. And honestly, I feel like Lori and John were just never perfect for each other anyways, so I always knew that their marriage wasn’t bound to last. And honestly I’m glad that John found Samantha in the second film because let’s face it she’s perfect for John. They both have a lot in common and she just accepts John for who he is. She doesn’t try and change him all the time like Laurie did And she doesn’t try and break up Ted and John‘s relationship like Laurie did but hey like I said, that’s just me.
They decided to write Lori off because Mila Kunis was pregnant during filming
@@jre_esco7379 I think if they got rid of the kidnapping sub plot, and just actually made Ted leave for good the movie probably would’ve been better. I really like the concept of someone realizing they are being changed too much by someone else and realizing they are not themselves anymore that was very briefly mentioned in the second movie. I feel like the first movie would have been a lot better had Ted actually just left, and John realized he wasn’t himself anymore and tried to find Ted. The 2nd movie could be literally the exact same as it is now (even though it’s not very great), the first movie would just have a more emotional and more nuanced story if they had him break up with mila kunis in the first movie. That’s what I thought was going to happen before Ted got kidnapped. I thought they intentionally made her character unreasonable so John would have to choose between her and Ted and ultimately pick Ted because of her unreasonableness and constant obsession with changing his life.
I don’t think it’s cgi I think is practical effects
Sitcom format should have been the standard for Ted. The movies I did like, but this fits him so much better. Reminds me of old sitcoms.
Been waiting For this one! Binging the series and you're completely right!😊😊😊😊😊
I like both the Ted movies but I think I like the second one more because he kind of grew and said hey not everything works out for some people and the second movie introduces a new love interest I get it could have been shorter it could have been an hour long but I felt like they needed to have a bad guy and I don't know if he's the first guy from the somebody seems like the same guy but I do agree they could have done without that bit at the Comic-Con like they could have found a way to just shorten it a little bit it would have been better but I can get some of the jokes are not hold up but I watched it the other day it's pretty good some of the jokes in the second one were really good mostly Stoner jokes I feel like but other than that they didn't have a few outdated ones but I just like how they change the second love and trust and they can really probably do the same plot line with the same girl for the same store like how would they have followed the second movie of if they have kept the same love interest I mean I think at first and foremost the movies are comedy and this is a sitcom it can kind of do this lovely day heartbeats but that's what it was for me it was they were a friends at first point from the first movie that's how it
Got an ad for this on Spotify and thought it was Peter Griffen. Nearly has a stroke till I checked my phone
The first movie is rlly good imo, its probably cuz I grew up with it but I never felt annoyed by the gags when i rewatched it recently, though I would definitely say the heart is what makes the movie a good time.
I have never seen the 2nd film and idk if i want to watch it.
My only gripes with the show is the political commentary and the Matty and Blaire characters.
The political commentary is something MacFarland does on the regular and it's pretty all over the spectrum, but a lot of it is based on cable news reporting which isn't very accurate nowadays and the terms and issues used don't fit the '93 setting.
Matty is a disrespectful caricature of conservative-leaning dads with no real reason for behaving like he does other than to show that Blaire is "smarter" and more mature than him. Blaire is basically just college girl version of Brian Griffin and just as insufferable when they try to make her take a moral stand (usually based on media programming) but she gets to be a chill character when interacting with John.
John and Ted are the best parts of the show but we have to slog through the Matty/Blaire bull between bits. Susan is unassailably wholesome.

Still waiting on that 4th season of The Orville.
Loved it! I hope we get 4 more seasons
The craziest part of this show I learned the actors are both 26 years old with one acting 16 and the other being like 20 lol

Have yet to see the show but super happy to hear that it’s apparently really good. Seems to me like Seth Macfarlane is proving that he’s still got it when he actually tries.
I feel like that was always the case as seen with his other projects

The fact that they managed to retain the characters charm throughout the entire season, as well as the fact that your only major complaint was the formatting instead of the show itself? This makes me all the more astounded that Seth Macfarlane pulled such a genuinely optimistic show out of his ass legitimately refreshing.

I was so iffy on this show strictly bc the movies weren’t my favorite, but man they really hit it out of the park with this show. You’re perfectly correct about the family dynamic I really loved it.

Here in canada, they are actually doing it on a weekly bases on the channel called show case.
I went in expecting to drop the series thinking it was gonna just be tasteless jokes but eneded up loving it
In Canada, we get the ep's weekly.
And I agree. I think weekly is better for a show.
With binge dropiing, a show has a hot minute where it's relevant. Then within a few week, after many have watched the season, it may fade off into irrelevance.
Where as dropping ep's weekly gives opportunities for "around the water cooler at the office" type discussions throughout the weeks
Haven't played the video yet, but I wholly agree with this statement. I've been thinking this since I saw that first episode. And Blair is a great addition. This whole entire cast is from The Orville, so it was very easy to get behind them. I hope we get Season 2 and 4 of both these shows, especially since Giorgia became a permanent member of the crew in S3, would love to see more from her.

This is what I wanted for Ted 3, but they didn’t do a Ted 3. I wanted Ted and Johnny to be kids again. But this was great. I’m trying to look everywhere so I can watch it.
That smile she had when she was walking to class, oh god that woman is just too wholesome for public school
The second episode is really awesome. I was still figuring out if I liked the show. Even though the first episode made me laugh and cry; I was wondering if it was just that one episode and I wasn't sold in the first half, but when they realized they went way too far and stepped in as their bulies dad, I was completely sold.
Alanna Ubach (like Seth and Scott Grimes) is a fine voice actor. She was the best part of "Crossing Swords" and was Mama Imelda in "Coco" (where she proved she could sing).
I adored the first one as a kid and even though the 2nd was pretty underwhelming I spend years begging for a Ted 3. Glad what we got was even better
I think the premise of Ted 2 works. The first movie being about how John can’t grow up because he’s held back by his relationship to Ted and then Ted not being able to grow up because he’s not technically a person sets up some really interesting themes about what is personhood and what does it mean to be alive.
But because they couldn’t get Mila Kunis back they have to destroy all of John’s progress so he can get with Amanda Sefried.
I think at a bare minimum they could have been like “oh Laurie’s out of the country on an important business trip that’s why she’s not around could have worked. Shit if they wanted a running joke they could do increasingly silly jokes about how Laurie is always just in the other room or the bathroom so they just shout for her from across the house
i kinda wish they upped it to 10 episodes but hopefully because this is such a success they do up how many episodes they produce as long as it doesn’t effect the quality i’ll take as much ted as they can throw at us because this character is hilarious this concept is amazing and i believe in the creative team and the actors to make this a fantastic tv show.
3:54 it’s not entirely their fault Mila kunis turned down the sequel so they had to course correct
I had fun with the second movie imo
