    It's absolutely extraordinary how diligent and committed these fellows are to commemorating their history. Everything about them is a living legacy, a snapshot of Americans of the period. Including the fellow that dropped the bayonet, that's as old as warfare itself.

    I absolute loved this. Just finished watching a documentary on Netflix and It left me thirsty for more so I came here. I wasn't born here in the USA but God knows I too would've fought to the last drop of blood for these colors. My fiance and I will be visiting all these sites in a couple of weeks and I can't wait to pay homage to these brave Americans fighting,- on both sides- for what they felt was right. GB the USA.
    P.S. Come on ppl, stop giving the camera guy so much grief. Filming that kind of thing on uneven ground and sans professional equipment is a lot harder than it seems. You guys should thank him for the effort and for missing some of the action while filming it for the rest of us. Just sayin' shout out to all from North Hollywood CA ;-)

If you went back into the woods to cavalry camp behind the batteries, there we no modern buildings in sight and you really got a feel for what it was like. Completely immersive. Just soaked it up for a while. A little bit of what my gg grandfathers experienced in the western armies.

    • @JonesNate
      @JonesNate Před 5 lety

      Because July 1, 2, & 3 fell in the middle of the week that year, they had two reenactments. The first was the weekend before the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd; the second reenactment was the weekend after the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The first reenactment was on the farm where they filmed the movie. The second reenactment was somewhere closer to the battlefield, but neither reenactment was actually on the battlefield.
      I participated in the first reenactment. June 29th is my birthday, and I was there on the farm.

    Good video, the bleachers don't bother me because it is for the people watch and learn some history on how battles were fought during the Civil War. The only thing I find wrong is on the battlefield (the stage) and that is the water bottles along the stone wall. I understand why the water bottles are there, in case reenactors get thirsty and don't go down with heat stroke, but I think it would have been better if they would have been covered with canvas or burlap. Lets face it, it's like watching a western movie about a wagon train moving along and seeing a Ford pickup in the line of wagons.

    Vermont 2nd Brigade: Stannard’s superiors realized the significance of his actions. Major General George Meade said, There was no individual body of men who rendered a greater service at a critical moment then the comparatively raw troops commanded by General Stannard. Major General Abner Doubleday said: It is to General Stannard…that the country is mainly indebted for the repulse of the enemy’s charge and the final victory of July 3. [His] brilliant flank movement… greatly contributed to if it did not completely insure our final success.

      I was at the 135th. There were at least 11,000 Confederates participating in Pickett's charge.

      This was the second reenactment of the 150th. They had one at the farm where they filmed the movie; that was before July 1, 2, and 3. This happened the next weekend.
      At the first reenactment, there were over 20,000 reenactors on the field by Sunday's Pickett's Charge. My Dad and I were there, on the Union side. Dad met a lady from Australia who flew in just to fall on the fence, because one of her ancestors was a Confederate who died on the fence.

      Also, this second reenactment had something like a $200 registration fee per reenactor, if you didn't pre-register. The reenactment on the farm had a fee of $20 or something.
