Pro tip: put an external tooth lock washer between the tag and the cover and it won't clock out of position when tightening.
Any other videos I’ve watched used silicone gasket instead of the regular shaped gasket. The silicone would be the better choice IMO.
Also, make sure you can get the fill plug out first before draining the fluid.

How do you tell what differential you have if the tag is missing/corroded badly? Mine looks like this, but there's also a 10 inch and 8 inch option on my year model F150 (2003).

But, I always see people oiling the surface of the diff & diff cover, even the gasket.
Is their a reason you don't do this and mount it dry on the well cleaned surface?
Can I scrape and use gunk afterwards??
