Makers create. Some get rich, like Elon Musk. He creates cool things like Tesla cars and Starlink satellites, that let poor people access the internet.
Then there are takers. They are often politicians, like Senator Elizabeth Warren. They grab other people’s wealth.
Our world needs fewer Elizabeth Warrens and more Elon Musks.

    • @StomachPlug
      @StomachPlug Před 3 měsíci +1

      Why haha?
This is baby's first propaganda video. 😆
For starters during the entire duration of the video John talks down to you in the tone and vernacular capacity expected of speaking to an 8 year old. Not exactly informative nor respectful of the audience.
Secondly, the whole _"makers"_ and _"takers"_ thing is so vapidly simplistic in presentation, and the villainization of the very concept of regulation is bafflingly stupid. The majority of regulations came into specifically because corporations were performing anticompetitive practices and proved themselves a willing danger to consumers. The video continues to spiral down later on when John says that Elon Musk is using his own money to help paralyzed people, framing it as if he's doing this out of the kindness of his heart and not blatantly using this opportunity as a stepping stone to create brain-tech interfaces for the general public, because; _as a businessman,_ that is clearly the end goal. It somehow gets even dumber than _that_ though, because immediately following this ridiculous segment John goes on to cartoonishly call Elizabeth Warren a villain for doing her job.
Thirdly, there's an obscene amount of manipulative editing where words are laser cut to form a half-second clip taken completely out of context to backup fabrications, things that become excruciatingly obvious if you are even remotely aware of the situations at hand. It's a very intentional mixture of omission and misinformation designed solely to mislead you and play into your preconceived notions.
      For example:
      • No explanation for why Elon Musk suddenly had to lay $12 billion in taxes. Just mentioned and then dropped, leaving the viewer to question it briefly before jumping on.
      • Ignoring that SpaceX has received over $15 billion in direct funding from the US government since 2003, and that both SpaceX and Tesla have only survived crashing completely _multiple times_ thanks to government subsidies. For some reason this is not worth bringing up when you're too busy fluffing.
      • NASA's budget has been less than 1/5th of what it was during the Space Race for a quarter century, and 1/8th of it for the past decade, and yet John suggests that the lack of recent effort to launch on NASA's is due entirely to the bungling of vapid, unthinking government drones. _Imagine congratulating a dolt's cheap political take on the very entity that pioneered multiple industries and creates the seed for the tech industry to blossom in the first place while pretending to appreciate ingenuity and scientific achievement._
      • NASA had been prototyping reusable rockets since at least the X-33 in 2001; _over a decade before SpaceX got their's working,_ but deemed them unviable because NASA was doing too many launches per year to make collecting the depleted rockets and refueling them for the next one a feasible situation.
      • StarLink having so many satellites is treated solely as a positive when in reality it has contributed so greatly to overcrowding low Earth orbit that collisional cascading; _a situation wherein space debris collides with each other and plummets to Earth with the impact of a military bombing run,_ is no longer merely a discussion of theory but rather an active threat that will only increase with time as more satellites are haphazardly sent out into space.
      • Elizabeth Warren's call for the SEC to make an investigation into Elon Musk-Tesla-Twitter/X is touted as _"ridiculous"_ solely on the basis that Tesla is a popular brand, completely ignoring that her request points out that:
      - - Musk diverted Tesla's financial resources to rebuilding Twitter/X
      - - Musk transitioned a number of Tesla employees to Twitter/X
      - - there is a clear conflict of interest in Twitter/X advertising Tesla over other car brands
All of these things violate various laws and fair business standards, and moving the sheer amount kf money and manpower over to Twitter/X is _very clearly_ a lessening of total potential returns for Tesla shareholders, which is a perfectly valid criticism to bring up.
Overall this video is insufficient at being anything beyond a propagandistic fluff piece for people that; frankly, aren't half so intelligent as they think themselves to be. The positive comments are all incredibly vapid lowest common denominator wankery, and honestly I would be surprised if even half of them aren't bots.
I'll explore the channel for a bit to see if it provides anything of actual value, but if it turns out that this is the degree of slop that it regularly serves up then it's genuinely pathetic.

A few politicians change their message depending who they are speaking to. However, most politicians are very open and up front with their goals. Their behavior while in office actually matches what they campaigned on. When it comes to re-election we have a track record to look at.
We do always have candidates who run against the incumbents, who aren't wealthy and who don't want a career in politics. We still elect the incumbent. Therefore it is not the fault of the politician. They just represent what the people want.

    • @sidwhiting665

Several ways to do it. In the video, Stossel said it was because he "realized zero income" that year, which either mean his losses and deductions were greater than his income, or he may have simply not taken a salary or sold any assets that year. Musk can easily live off the wealth he made in years past for a lifetime. If you notice, he's not flamboyant like many wealthy celebrities... and he doesn't show off his basement fridge full of ice cream like some politicians do.
      *
Keep in mind Musk owned PayPal, which he sold to help fund other businesses like Tesla and SpaceX. He likely also kept a portion of that back for personal expenses.
      *
The other way to do it is to take loans against your assets. Musk has over $100 billion in company stock among his various businesses. Some of that is already pledged as collateral against other loans, but not all of it. So if you're Elon and you have $10 billion of free and clear stock in SpaceX/Tesla, you simply ask a bank to loan you $5 million against those shares of stock as collateral. Loans are not treated as income for tax purposes. Ergo: you pay zero in tax and have $5 million to live on. I think you will scrape by.... *wink

Makers and Takers are wired up differently. I've been a creative Maker, (damn the consequences) since I could hold a crayon.
Sadly, there are Takers born to the exact opposite way of life. This is the human condition.
There are latent Makers in the adult population who haven't produced yet; there are also latent takers grinding away, waiting for an opportunity to leech off others.
I think this is core personality, prehaps best influenced in childhood. It is who you are essentially.
I'm glad I was born a maker, even if not to the scale of an Elon. And I pray God will be merciful to the takers, if they turn to Him. None of us are perfect, no matter what we are. We all need God.

A friend of mine said it best when he overheard his peers talking about how much the big boss (company owner) was getting paid. My friend said "Last time I checked, a poor man never gave me a job". More taxes on the rich like Musk (who earned it BTW) doesn't work. He got richer by employing some of the smartest people on the planet. I'm a big Elon fan since he showed the Twitter censors the door, but to be clear Space-X designed and built those reusable rockets, not Elon all by himself. No doubt, he's a REALLY smart dude, but achievement of that magnitude takes a village.

Taxes do work, they keep powerful businesses in check. You're in favor of giving too much power to corporations over government? That's literally the same thing since both entities will do the exact same thing with absolute power. Which is enslave humanity. The power needs to be divided between corporations and government, or else we end up back in the medieval period with a ruling class and the rest of us are peasants.

You say “more taxes doesn’t work” and I say that no taxes doesn’t work either. It’s those taxes made SpaceX possible in a first place. And to your friend - poor man never gave him a job, but poor man never bought laws either. Life is complicated.
