Tony my dad came home on a Sunday afternoon with the Sunday newspaper and handed me the newspaper go through it and look for a used station wagon for him i picked 1 out for him it turned out to be a 1975 Mercury Grand Marquis Colonial Park Station Wagon Fully Equipped, Fully Loaded Fully Powered that ride had every option you can think of it had it just like your Ford Country Squire the only thing was the color, it was a light yellow cream puff with brown interior that was leather. I remember that ride like it was yesterday what a ride it was to. It was the talk of the street our family lived on I miss that ride.
That ride would put todays new rides to shame well for me anyway. What I would give to locate a ride like that even the exact same color or maybe my choice of different colors. As a matter of fact over 20 years ago I did have one it was a dark midnight metallic blue and top of the line 1990 ls park lane. What a ride it gave to. Like I said before and i’ll say it again, i’ll take an antique, classic and vintage ride of the big three over these and what they are building, making and manufacturing today.
    Sincerely Yours Truly
    Ivan I J

I believe a lot of the TV shows in the 70s would have country Squire or colony Park, station wagon’s, either being used by characters or many times you would see them in the background, the reason is very simple, those cars were used to transport camera equipment in order to shoot at various locations, so they were always somewhere in the background, and occasionally get used for a character to drive

Beautiful wagon and awesome color. I love the original deluxe wheel covers but that’s just me. Back in 1978, my best friends dad traded in his ‘73 Country Squire and factory, ordered a ‘78 Country Squire. He was an insane maniac about keeping his cars absolutely mint. It was a dark brown, loaded with the upgraded Landau interior, power everything, cornering lights, side molding, third seating, 400 v8, absolutely loaded. He had it for about 4 years and I should have bought it but I was in college and not in a position to be buying a big wagon but I knew it was going to be rare someday. I loved that wagon and wish I knew what happened to it. Looking forward to watching you make the upgrades.

Stunning. I love those Country Squires. I also love that you add the options to your cars. I thought I was the only one. Almost 4 years ago, I rescued a 1984 Buick Electra Estate Wagon. I added some options not ordered on the car (4-note "trumpet horn", power passenger seat, cornering lamps, fiber optic lamp monitors on the front fenders, dome lamp with the map lights, rear window defrost), as well as some options that were not available on it (auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass and garage door opener, fiber optic lamp monitors on the rear (Oldsmobile was the only make that offered that on the wagons in the rear)). I'm adding the litter container soon. It's great to option-up yourself the car the way you would have ordered it back in the day. I cannot wait for the upcoming videos on this wagon! Congrats!
BTW: I used Ford cornering lamp relays for my cornering lamps on my Buick. That was the one part of wiring that was not already existing, so I had to make do.

That is one rare Ford LTD Country Squire Wagon. My father custom ordered for my mother a 1978 Ford LTD Country Squire wagon with the Landau Luxury Group interior and till this day, it's was the prettiest interior of any car we ever owned. Our car was Dark Jade Green exterior with the two tone green vinyl interior(Could be had in cloth, vinyl or leather). I can see why you really want that upgraded interior. It makes the whole car in my opinion. My father told me that the Landau Luxury group cost so much money back in 1978 that we didn't have very much money left over for anything else. No intermittent wipers. No cruise control, No power windows or door locks. I think he mentioned to me that the Landau Luxury group cost $2,000 to $2,500 which was almost 50% of the cost of the whole car. I miss that car so much and always wanted to keep it in the family. Nice to see a Tony with this wagon nonetheless.

    • @tonyscarcare5657
      @tonyscarcare5657  Před 3 měsíci +1

Thank you! I definitely love that Landau Luxury Group. My Ford book says the cost was $403.00-$563.00, depending on vinyl or leather. Actually, according to the dealer brochure, cloth wasn't available with the Landau Luxury Group in the wagon. I've always thought that was so strange.

    • @klwthe3rd
      @klwthe3rd Před 3 měsíci +2

@@tonyscarcare5657 I could be off on the numbers but i know the cost was alot of money back then. The only options our car had was the rear defroster, air conditioning, 400 CI motor and the Landau Luxury Group. But that interior was the best part of that car and had to be ordered as our local dealer didn't have one on the lot in the color we wanted. I think in 1978, the Landau Luxury Group COULD be had in cloth. A change from the 1977 model year. I'm excited to watch all your videos on how you add all those options. I hope one day if you ever sell that wagon that i can be the one to buy it. I love it.

Hey Tony, been following your channel for a while now. I am of the same school of thought as you, I was adding options to my Fords and Mercurys as far as back as 1985 when I was 19 y/o, I was lucky enough to have very friendly folks at the local junkyards (Richmond, VA) that let me go back in the yard before we even had self service junkyards. I even converted my '76 Cougar to have power rear windows from the fixed ones, it amazed all my friends back then the things I did. This is when if cars were well equipped folks knew you had something special, especially power windows/locks! I am a huge fan of these big wagons and hope to acquire one myself one day. Keep up the great work and I look forward to the conversion/upgrade vids coming up!

I added the Light Group to my dad's '76 Elite. On Torino-based cars of the 1972-79 , you only got a single cheap dome light, regardless of trim level. No glove box light or anything! The only item I couldn't get was the Lights-on warning buzzer. It was a leased car but I didn't car. The junkyard parts didn't cost that much. I would have added Interval Wipers, too, if I'd have known how easy it was. I wanted the dealer to add it before delivery, but the lying scumbag said it couldn't be done, even though the dealer accessory catalog clearly listed it.

Great car! We have a 1978 LTD wagon that we bought from the original owner’s son (parents had passed on) about 20 years ago. Drove it from Chicago area to NJ in the late fall and the heater core sprang a leak. Luckily I had tools and bypassed it. Cold ride home! The family didn’t want the wood grain Country Squire but ordered the regular LTD WAGIN with every option in 1978 (No mini vents as you stated unavailable). PW, PDL, dual power seats, rear defroster, AC, INT wipers, AM/FM 8 track, tilt wheel, cruise control, light package. Color coded blue Landau wheel covers and the 400 2bbl. We have the vinyl seats and same door panels you have. I don’t mind the seats but have wanted the door panels with the carpet and lamps as well as the pull straps like the Landau and the Colony Park had. I wound up putting the deep dish landau wheels (from a late 70’s T Bird) as I got tired of chasing after wheel covers. I’m still looking for the red dot center caps so if you ever come across a set…. I’d love to have the mini vents like the old Town car had as well! Can’t wait to see your progress. Congrats on the find!

I have a fresh old cars on my LTD I took all the chrome trim off and use the polishing wheel and brought it back to mirashawn you can only do it once the second time you'll hit the anodized. Added a stainless steel Center Hood molding H4 H1 halogen glass headlights, rolled those bumpers in 4 inches that was a lot of work. Color match stub caps with a lighter and model 84 hubcaps are the revised version of The Originals they stay on better. Added Lincoln Continental side mirrors, vinyl wood grain with a heat gun refreshed all the interior dashboard wood. LED strip lights under the dash trunk release button I added that and on those key locks I upgraded the lock to use the large oval headed key with the door locks and the trunk and a small square headed key for the ignition only by getting later model locks and changing them out. The trunk lock I had to disassemble and put the two halves together and manufacture a key lock cover emblem. And the mirror window tint goes so well with the chrome trim. Remove all the pollution control, repair the dashboard and paint it to match the interior. And upgrade those stereo speakers and radio to be able to play cassette tapes. And the rear reflector panel which the wagon doesn't have the LED strip lights behind the reflector strips a dim and a bright and 1156 bulbs on both sides and the lower bulbs are the parking and the upper bulbs are brake lights. The plastic bulb sockets disintegrate. The front got 1157 1156 Switchback bulbs I'll add some links to the videos that way those front clear lights are white cruising down the road and when you put on the blinker they turn yellow like the new cars are using then when the blinker is done they switch back to White. It looks so much better and it's functional you can have it use them to see where you're going in the parking lot would look great with a car with headlight doors.

The blue shade on this one looks pretty close to my friends 76 Mark IV gevechy he had back in the 90s -that was a specific baby blue with white partial vinyl top which was an option package on those. The hood and trunk were UV faded but I was able to partially bring back for him with just nu-finish wax (and a lot of elbow grease!), the side panels were all in much better shape otherwise, and the car was just a cool 460 w/glasspacks powered cruiser we had a blast tooling around in. Yes -had issues with the 4 barrel -but was fine once it was rebuilt by a local carb re builder. This wagon is a sweet example -and look forward to seeing its progress -especially the paint! 🙂 Surprised to see the passenger power seat too -that's a unique option I would think twice about replacing!

Myself I do not mind after market parts as long as they are better parts than stock. Of course if I were to land one of these I would save every little bit of the original that was still good because somebody out there will need it and when I am gone whoever sells it will need to include those parts.

Just discovered you, Tony! Great video!! And, even as it is now, your car is absolutely gorgeous! I consider the dual power seat seat to be one of the holy-grail options for these cars; impressive that yours has it as the power passenger seat is so rare!
I grew up with a family full of the '69-'78 full size Fords and Mercurys, mostly purchased new back in the day, and I am a huge fan of them. My uncle ordered a 'chocolate-brown 73 Mercury Marquis Brougham two door hardtop with the "A" code 460 and almost all of the options. I was jealous because the '69 and '70 Fords in my household really couldn't compete with his Mercury in terms of options - and my cousin let me know it, lol. But two years later, we traded in our '70 Galaxie 500 on a new '75 LTD Landau 4 door pillared hardtop with the Landau Luxury Group and Kasman Cloth interior. Our car was virtually identical - inside and out - to the Landau model featured in the first pages of the '75 Ford brochure; i.e. silver-blue glow exterior with blue vinyl top and interior. It was a stunning car and was our first to have power windows and door locks, stereo radio, power (albeit driver only) split bench seat, speed control and so on. I'm a huge fan of Adam's channel; he is quite vocal, however, in his favor of the '73 and '74 Fords which introduced the dash bezel style evidenced on your car, eschewing the burled walnut component present on the later LTD Landaus (and wagons) optioned with the Landau Luxury Group. I, on the other hand, maintain that the Landau Luxury Group - particularly BECAUSE of that "inlaid burled walnut" instrument panel treatment - really turned the LTD Landau so-optioned into a "sensibly-sized Lincoln". I remember thinking that our '75 Landau gave up nothing to my uncle's car in terms of luxury, and in fact rivaled his later '78 Grand Marquis in content and elegance. Clearly, the Luxury Group option is necessary to make the Country Squire and even the Landau sedan truly live up to their (otherwise nominal) top-of-the-line billing!
I go on about this interior not to detract from your wagon in its current form; I also watched your later video detailing your planned upgrades, so I wish to echo your own intentions! In the mid '80's when I went off to college, the aforementioned '75 LTD Landau joined me as a hand-me-down from my parents. I really wanted to install the mini-vent windows and I scoured the local wrecking yards searching for the parts to do it. I ultimately gave up that plan as a personal friend who was a Ford service manager convinced me not to do so given the mini-vent propensity to fall off tracks or otherwise fail. I also love the wire wheel covers from the '77 and -78 models. I would have considered those, but my car had fender skirts so I found and retrofitted the '77/'78 deep dish aluminum wheels instead. Talk about a challenging search, even in those days!
Those beautiful cars are long gone from my life and my extended family, although I did eventually locate a '69 LTD Country Squire with the "N" code 429 4V engine and still have it stashed away. But I love looking on eBay for good examples of the era. Not long ago, I discovered an original but still stunning low-mileage 1978 Country Squire with the same interior (including color) as your '77. However, it actually was upholstered with the Kasman Cloth seats straight out of the Landau Luxury Group Landau sedan...and this with the "base" Squire interior! It looked totally original - front and rear - to the car! I would have loved to see a Marti Report and window sticker for that wagon, given this apparent anomaly! Of particular surprise to me was the fact that the assumed rear "sedan-exclusive" upholstery was compatible with the folding seat components! I wondered if the original selling dealer swapped the seat upholstery to satisfy a customer's demands, or if Ford produced a few odd birds since the full-size Fords of that era were coming to an end with the arrival of the panther platform, and interim parts availability perhaps played a role.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing what you do with your Country Squire! Cheers, Ken Lewis

Thank you so much! That's a lot to take in, but I can see that you definitely know what you're talking about, and I can promise you that I'll never stop searching for every piece to add the Landau Luxury Group interior to this Squire. Even if I have to add a piece at a time. I have studied the rear seats and believe that the material can be swapped out to the rear folding seat from the sedan. If you see a parts car with the leather or vinyl in two-tone Jade or simply Dark Jade, please let me know. Thank you very much for watching and commenting!

It also had the hydraboost which we always found interesting since it came with so few options. I do not recall it having rear disc brakes though. 1975 Mercury Montego MX Villager Wagon (Canary Yellow, saddle interior)

      Light Group
      Cross Country HD Suspension
      Body Side Protection Mldg
      $6871.00
      Accepted offer of $6100.
      Taxes in and undercoating $6668.55
      In 2024 dollars...about $41,000 today
What was not on the list of options on the bill of sale were: power tailgate window, Rear defrost, Clock, Deluxe Vinyl Interior, Lockable stowage compartment and HD cooling (towing pkg).
I also have the brochure for the Montego and the consumer information sheet and ownership card. The consumer info sheet is interesting as it included performance and braking information as well.
This was the car of my youth and it took us all over the West Coast of Canada and the US without a problem and I sure wish it was still in the family because it was a great car, especially on long trips.
Today I have a 1978 Ford LTD ll Sport 2 door hardtop that is a true survivor and I take to shows here in Alberta. It's not the same car but the view out the winshield and the ride sure brings back a lot of memories.
Love that LTD wagon of yours and I can't wait to see more videos on it! As I said before...GREAT FIND!👍

What a cream putt! I really like how it's optioned, though more is always good. ;-) Having owned a '76 Landau with those wheel covers, I'm kind of partial to them, though I noticed the one on the left rear looks pushed in. The wire wheel covers are nice too, though. Well bought, Tony! I look forward to a more detailed ride/drive/review. About that brake booster: I believe that all of the wagons from '75 forward had the hydroboost brake assist since the wagons were so heavy (as heavy as a Lincoln). I would get under the car and look. Regarding those door panels: they were the ones used on '75 and '76 Broughams. Ford used them on the base '77 and '78 Landau as downgrade, when the Brougham models were discontinued. The Country Squires of this era also had the base LTD interiors unless optioned up. That fabric on the DFRS is wild -- it may have been used on a Mustang II of the era.

That does make sense. I see so many of these cars that are so loaded up with options, including cruise control yet no tilt column. I've always said that it had to be a mistake. Maybe my car wasn't ordered with hydroboost and 4 wheel disc brakes, but somehow they got thrown on there as it went down the line. I do not believe that someone added it after it was delivered.

Because I would readjust his Tilt wheel and he was afraid I was going to break the turn signal lever by making too many column Adjustments I admit I was a little concerned too because my Dad said your going to take it to Ford for the repair & it is going to be expensive my Dad said he was not going to give hand signals in the snow or rain or even on a sunny day and I’m not or your mother going to be getting return hand signals from other drivers this is one area where ford took the cheap way one lever GM had a separate lever for tilting and we always had to order the game / snack table at the parts window at the dealer because that was another option that never arrived on the Wagons that is what I was going to ask you about on yours I told my Dad when I was about 12 that I liked the Mercury Colony Park why don’t we try one and my Mom liked the idea my Dad got mad & said your all crazy some appreciation you have for me I go out long hours all week dangerous work hauling Structural steel oversized loads all the big jobs all the big buildings down town Chicago the deep tunnel project just about all the bridges in this Tri state region I treat you guys extremely well new clothes we eat the best the Christmas tree is full full full with the goods every year we do the big out west trip every year and I treat you’s to a new car every two years which I don’t have to do but do it any way out of love & pleasure I don’t care for the Mercury because it is more money for the same car sure the trim is a little different but it’s a matter of principle I’m not going to pay $ 1,800 more for the same car And you still have to order all the options that we like no you people will be proud & satisfied to ride in a new Country Squire I like that name I sacrifice for you guys because I know other guys that have their hobbies & Toys and don’t give their Wife & kids a second thought they live for gambling golf fishing their hot rods & Motor cycles and the kids live off of relatives or all they get is a couple bags of junk food every week he said I have seen it I use to be on the Police department I saw neglected families because of drugs Alcohol gambling & other forms of debauchery I’m doing the best I can for my family & you’s are going to knit pick over a car brand and some extra trim on the thing
