For the longest time, I kept my station wagon addiction to myself. I was convinced I was the only addict until I starting doing research and wham bam, there are a ton of us! I was born in 1970. I lived in a cul-de-sac in Northern CA. Every house in the court had a wagon. Not just wagons but the land yacht type. I remember going to the dealership when my parents bought a brand new 1978 Mercury Marquis Colony Park wagon. We were the envy of neighborhood until the next family brought another wagon. I have loved wagons ever since. You are a lucky man, Tony. She's a beauty.
Thank you! Wagons are exploding in popularity now.
When people go to the doctors office, the nurse will take their blood pressure, they will tell them to think of something calming to help lower their blood pressure, I think A picture of this car would be very calming and Pleasant/relaxing, It represents the enjoyable things in life, like going on a vacation, summertime, Green color with wood trim is very easy on the eyes, this car should win many awards!
Thank you very much! It's gonna look even better when I get it all detailed. It's actually pretty dirty. I love this comment!
I love these old wagons. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
Thank you! Please stay tuned.
As a kid our first brand new car was a 1973 Country Squire Wagon Mint Green with Woodgrain. We had the checkerboard too!!! Wow this was a good flashback- thanks.
That's awesome! Thank you for watching, commenting, and letting me know you had the game table. Much appreciated!
I love what you are doing to this lovely beast. My dad’s 77 Ranch Wagon was nothing like this but the memories are the same. These were super solid cars and could haul a locomotive. Gussy it up with all trim so it doesn’t look like it came out before it was ready. BTW I can fully relate to that earlier comment about postering it in a dr.’s office. It is that calming.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting. Much appreciated!
I love station wagons.
Thanks! They sure are making a comeback.
Love the color of that squire. Keep up the good work! I always enjoy your videos and taste in cars.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate you all.
I have to agree with Adam on the side molding. But Tony, it’s your vehicle and I respect that. Love the checkers/ chess board. Never had that in the many wagons we had growing up.
Thank you! I really believe some of you will change your minds when you see that NOS molding on there. 😆 lol
Sorry Tony, I also have to agree with Adam and the door edge guards. But...I like your idea on the mini vent windows😊 Beautiful wagon!
Thank you!
Tony, Body side molding RULES!!! Adam does not like it because he never parks his cars in a public parking lot. 😉😉🤣 The chess and checker board in the back seat is a very pleasant reminder of the days when kids' lives were not dominated by computer screens. 😁
Well, I won't be parking it in a parking lot close to anyone either. I just simply like the way it looks. And you are correct about the simple life. I lived it and I miss it.
@@tonyscarcare5657👍
That power vent window is awesome. I remember those on continentals.
It sure is. Stay tuned, sir.
Excellent project! Keep on keepin' on with the options, love to watch it develop!
Thank you!
My advice would be - to sort and clear the workshop, then you'll feel so much more enthusiastic to do the things that you truly want to do. Good luck with your project. 👍
Thank you! I'm enthusiastic about it. It's just that the parts cars are outside and the weather isn't fit to film taking parts off of them to show everyone how it's done. Today would have been beautiful had the wind not been gusting 30-35 mph. I definitely need to start selling some parts and get the shop cleaned out, though!
Love the wheel covers.
Thank you!
I love that you will be adding ALL those options. Back in the day, to find a Ford Country Squire wagon this heavily loaded was very rare. As i mentioned in another video, our 1978 Ford Country Squire wagon had the Landau Luxury Group(in the same green mind you) BUT not many other options. So to see one that will have some of the most rare options like power front vent windows, illuminated entry and those gorgeous wire wheel covers is really going to set this car off. Our car had the base wheel covers(i thought were very nice) but they were prone to fly off so easily at highway speeds. Not sure if the wire wheel covers require add on tags to hold to the steel wheel but i'm sure Tony will show us all when these upgrades are performed.
I sure hope those wire wheel covers don't fly off!
Very nice 1977 Country Squire. The only Squire Wagon I ever owned was my first car a 1973 Pinto Squire . I had it up to my purchase of my 1987 Crown Victoria Wagon in June of 1988 and once you go up to the full size model you never go back. In 2001 I purchased a 1991 LX wagon in New Hampshire which spent it's winter months in Florida where it was well cared for by the first owner an elderly lady. The 1987 is now my winter wagon to keep the 1991 off the road until spring. I had the 1991 completely restored in 2020 by Bundy Motors in Tolland, Ct. with a rebuilt transmission and engine and it now has about 14,000.0 miles since restoration. I also purchased in January of 2022 a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 50th Anniversary Edition, one of only 250 built with that trim package. It had 67,000.0 miles on it and is in mint condition. Good luck with your new LTD.
Thank you very much! You are definitely no stranger to wagons and the quality of Ford and Mercury wagons. Now I have to look up that 50th Anniversary edition! Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
Being originally from Connecticut i know that shop, Bundy Motors. I didn't realize that they do restorations on Ford products. I lived in Fairfield County for the earlier part of my life and that part of the state is beautiful. You'll have to do a video of your 50th anniversary Mercury Marquis because i never realized that package existed.
@@klwthe3rd Hi. Thanks for the reply. Glad to see you are familiar with Bundy Motors in Tolland. I have known the former owner and founder Jerry Bundy for almost forty years. He sold the business about ten years ago but with the proviso that his name had to remain. I bought the 1989 Mercury from Bundy Motors as well. Since my purchase in 2022 I have put new front brakes, water pump, four new tires, belts, and front shock absorbers. I regret to say I do not have the skill to post videos but I would be glad to send photos of the Merc to your e - mail address if provided. Thanks for your interest.
That game table is so cool, I can't say I have ever seen one of those. Great idea on the seats, those ones the car came with are just fugly. THat beauty is going to really pop with those wire wheels. Thanks for the update on the wagon. Definitely be tuning in in the future !
Thank you very much! Yes, sir, the wheel covers alone are going to drastically transform the way the car looks, I believe.
Dude, being a Hoosier, your midwest accent makes me feel right at home! I often disagree with Adam when it comes to opinions about styling, as he has obviously been indoctrinated by GM, but I gotta say I agree with him on this one. my opinion doesn't matter, it's your car and your dream. It's gonna be a stunning Squire regardless! Good job as always. Gotta admit, I'm in awe of your meticulous attention to details Tony!
Thank you very much! I did a pole on three different wagon groups, and the support for adding the bodyside molding won overwhelmingly in all three groups. So, it will likely get it. Thank you once again for watching and commenting. Much appreciated.
We are following!!!
Thanks, Ma!
This is your car and nobody else's. You do what you want. I love the wire wheels and the body trim. I think the game table in the back is neat. I have never heard or seen that option. I can't to see what you are doing to this car.
Thank you so much! I wish I'd shown the original dealer photo of the game table. I'll have to do that in a future video.
Adam can choose to not put bodyside moldings on it….oh, wait! It’s not his car! LOL
I for one am happy that you’re putting it to full battle dress appearance and function! 😊👍🏻
Thank you very much! He had me second-guessing myself there for a bit. But the fact is, the one I've always imagined did have it, so it will get it.
Hey Mr. Tony - The cars you have are really cool and now you have one more. We always liked a hood ornament in great shape as you always are looking at that when driving. An NOS one sitting in eye sight will make that car feel even more special. On the hubcaps those wire wheels are elegant and really stand out like the ones on a Lincoln Town Car. We like the body side molding for 2 reasons. One it makes the wood grain stand out even more so and it serves a purpose to prevent door dings. Go for it and those body side molding adds elegance like the lighted door locks. We hope you get the interior wood grain that for the dash. The mechanical items you have mentioned are pretty small considering what you have and how long this vehicle will last. Take good care and thanks for the great video. Roseann & Dan
Thank you so much, D & R! I feel the same way about everything you mentioned. I sure hope it all works out and you get to see it in Greenfield Village!
@@tonyscarcare5657 Even though our 1978 Ford Country Squire wagon was somewhat of a stripper, our car did have the body side moldings. I remember them well because i had to wax around them when doing the semi-yearly waxing of that car. I like the body side moldings and if you have an NOS set, why would you NOT add them??? In my opinion, your car is going to be one of the most highly optioned 1978 wagons out there when you're done. So impressive.
Very nice car, love the old wagons.
Thank you!
Beautiful wagon!!
Thank you!
Beautiful car!
Thank you!
Tony I'm with you it needs wires wheel covers, and yes on the body side molding
Thanks, Eric! It looks like most people agree with us on the bodyside molding. I'd be adding it either way! 🤣
@@tonyscarcare5657 I like adding things to my cars that it originally wasn't ordered with, example my 390 67 XL convertible I've added am/fm radio, the underdash air conditioner, right hand door mirror, my 67 XL 7 Litre convertible is slated to get a am/fm with the rare stereo unit in lue of its original ordered Am/8 track(it'll be restored and can be swapped in or out if i choose) and the mag type wheel covers often seen on 68 XL/GT's but was a dealer installed option in 67.
I always thought those convenience control panels with the power window switches on the 67s were wild. You sure don't see many of them.
@@tonyscarcare5657 yes ive never seen one in person myself
Tony I must have missed the previous video what a gem of a car, I can’t believe the condition of this car and I have zero objections to giving it that “every box checked” appearance. From my time of buying cars similar to this used it has stuck with me. To the point I observe Ford trucks and I look at them I point them out to my wife and I’ll say “that was special ordered it’s got …. “
Thank you! I know I can count on some of you to back me on my option adding. I put the first video at the end of this one in case some of you missed it. I've looked for a Country Squire in this color combination for a long time.
You are one lucky duck for finding this car.
I reckon, but I'm sure gonna have an awful lot in it.
I LOVE this wagon. and all the options you are adding. Prefer the wheel cover on it now but as you said... it's what YOU like. so I totally respect it. ! Well done Sir!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate you watching and commenting.
My wife and I bought a new 1973 LTD 2-door hardtop with the deluxe wheel covers. I believe they were too heavy for the light duty tabs that held them to the wheels. When the car was only a few months old we hit a pothole and the right rear wheel cover came off, went straight up in the air and came back down and damaged the paint on the upper quarter panel. I went to the local Ford dealer and purchased a set of the mag style wheel covers that were optional on the 1968 XL's and put those on. No more problems and they looked great.
I have NOS mag styles on my 68 XL, and I didn't think I was ever gonna get them on. I dread ever having to take them off!
Beautiful car and I love everything you are adding with the exception of the door ding guards. On several cars this on as well the guards break up the lines of the wagon as well as the beautiful paneling.
Thank you! That's why I like it. It breaks up some real estate.
Good stuff Tony, enjoy the updates and keep on posting up!
Thank you very much! I'll do my best.
Excited about the updates. Thanks for taking the time to make a video
You're welcome, and thank you! I hope the weather gets better and doesn't just go straight to hot.
@@tonyscarcare5657 that's probably what will happen. Typical central USA weather
😥
Great options you are adding Tony! I have to agree with Adam on the BSM - I wouldn't do it. But it is your vision so go forth with what you see and I look forward to the video showing your transformation.
Thank you, Big M! Yep, it's the wagon I've always dreamed of, and it had it, so I'll feel much better when it's on there.
Well all be damned I had that game table when I was a kid my parents had a 1985 Country Squire I had forgotten all about that.
Wow! I didn't realize they were still available in 1985. That's awesome!
Hey Tony, loving the progress report. I totally agree with everything you're wanting to add as far as options, we are on the same wavelength there. I know this idea isn't original but I would probably go as far as to add keyless entry to it also, but that's just me. Can't wait for the next video on the wagon, huge fan of the 75-78 Ford Country Squires. Following the progress closely. :)
Thank you very much! I don't know if I'll put keyless entry in it or not. If I do, I'd probably put factory Ford keyless in it and not aftermarket. I wish I could find some time to get started on it.
Looking forward to seeing the new episode
Thank you! I'm not sure what to do first.
Very nice wagon, I like that you show how to add options.
I would bet your gas leak is the old hose. I was told by former automotive engineer that the old rubber fuel lines aren't compatible with today's fueis and should be changed anyway.
Jim.E
Thank you! I sure hope the fuel leak is something that is simple. Please stay tuned for the option adding.
Hey Mr. Tony - You have so many cool cars and now you have one more. We love the NOS hood ornament as when you driving you always looking at it and it makes the car feel brand new. The wire wheel covers along with the illuminated key locks will make the car look elegant like the Lincoln Town Car. The body side molding serves 2 purposes. It highlights the wood grain and it provides protection to the vehicle. When you have everything done I think folks will say “Wow” when they see the car. We hope you get the interior wood grain panels for the dash and the mechanical repairs to the car are pretty minor considering what you will have when done. Keep up the great work. Roseann & Dan
Thank you so much, D & R! I can always count on you guys. See you in June!
Great car Tony as usual
Thanks, buddy!
Hi Tony, I like the other wheel covers they look really nice and I think that the trim on the sides of the car also looks good. The new fake panels are also fine. It looks that you and me have the same taste, and do not worry about what Adam is saying, he do not have our taste for this things.👍👍
Thank you! It seems that most people agree with us on the bodyside molding. This should really be a fun car to transform into what I've always wanted.
The wheel covers that are on it now look free 1975, I agree, the ones that you were putting on look more, correct
Pre-1975
The wheel covers that are on it and now look pre-1975, I agree the ones that you are putting on look more correct, (I should always look twice when I make a statement, because Siri will make changes at the last second)
Thanks, Dave! They are definitely in the 77 dealer brochure and called Delux Wheel Covers." And as you saw where on the Marti Report. There's no comparison to the wire wheel covers.
@@tonyscarcare5657 I don’t doubt that you’re correct about the deluxe wheel covers, but I think the wire wheel covers look more 1977 and beyond, they will look correct/better
Definitely…absolutely…positively…have to add the body side moulding. It looks naked without it. Adam’s wrong in this case. I also love the upgraded landau interior…must have. I agree with everything you are doing, although I am one of the nuts that prefers the deluxe wheel covers but you need to make this your dream car. I also love the fact that it has the cornering lamps. Great project and looking forward to the transformation.
Thank you very much! I looked past many of these wagons because they didn't have the cornering lamps. I would have added them if I had to, but I'm sure glad it's got them. It was easy to add them to my Grand Marquis because you simply remove the existing chrome and bolt them in its place. This one, I would have had to cut big holes in the fenders.
That's a really nice car.
Thank you very much!
I see your vision for your wagon,Tony. I would do exactly the same thing, but that’s just me. My plain-Jane Monterey will give most Park Lanes a run for their money once it gets done. 😊. Take care!
Thank you, Mike! I was sure you'd approve. I'm hoping to check on a box for that sunroof really soon.
100% yes on the body sideolding!
Thanks, Darren! I was pretty sure I was correct.
Your car... do whatever you want. Lol. I like all of your NOS parts. I know zip about Ford wagons so all of this is new to me as far as the options. Enjoy your wagon and you should have everything done by Summer cruising time.
Thank you, Sir! I'm hoping to have it ready for Motor Muster in Greenfield Village this June.
Hi Tony, great video and wagon! Just a suggestion, get a endoscope camera and you can check what’s going on above your fuel tank without dropping it. They are pretty inexpensive and I use mine all the time in blind spot situations like yours.
Thank you, that really is a good idea.
I can’t wait to see more videos on this wagon. I’ve loved them since I was a kid! I would add every option you want, don’t worry about other’s opinions, it’s not their car. I love that you add OEM equipment and think it’s even cooler that you have acquired so many NOS pieces! My only concern is dying the jump seats, unless you think you can eventually find an original set in the correct color in good shape I would spend the money to have them done correctly, especially if you can still get the correct vinyl.
Thank you very much! I can get the vinyl to do the seats. That's for sure. I just figure it's worth a try to dye them, and if it doesn't work out, then have them done. I've had these brown seats for years and looked and looked for the correct green ones, and have never found another set in any color! Most of these wagons were destroyed.
@@tonyscarcare5657 So long as you don’t mind the cost of having them dyed I guess you don’t have anything to lose. If you don’t like it then you can always have it done the most correct way. If you don’t already own the vinyl I would consider at least buying that to have just in case they discontinue it or you can no longer find it in the future. I can’t remember if that Country Squire from the junk yard you had on the channel a while back had the jump seats but maybe you could get the brackets you need off of that?
These are the seats out of the one in the junkyard. I got them out of it years ago. They are all the brackets. It's the brackets that would have come with the game table that I need, and that car doesn't have those.
@@tonyscarcare5657 Okay, that’s kind of strange that Ford would make special brackets for an option like that.
It appears it would have come in the box when one would purchase the game table. Without it, there's no need for them.
I'm so glad that the paint will shine up nicely. I know from working on a Continental that color that it can be a challenge to get a good shine out of it. And, don't hate me, but I'm with Adam -- that Di-Noc wood is so nice, I prefer it as it is. It will be great to see how to add the Illuminated Entry System to one of these cars. Lastly, THANK YOU SO MUCH for showing us the recreation table -- love the Ford emblem on the checker pieces!
You're welcome! Thank you, buddy. I want to make this one just like the original one I fell in love with. It just happened to have the bodyside molding, and I like it.
Brothers. Boss. Drove. One. Early. Eightties
It was a traveling salesman who came into the Amaco station, I worked at once a week in one this color in the 80s, which made me want one.
That’s terrific Tony. I have one of those checker sets I bought years ago off ebay. It is NOS. Came in the box. I just sat it on the legs in the back pf my wagon, which is a fully optioned dual snorkel 1974 460 Country Squire. Apparently the Texas DSO launch car nit has power windows with mini vents, power locks, rim blow, power seats both sides with duraweave, vinyl roof, cornering lamps. Very cool. Brougham door trims etc. I really like your Squire, even the deluxe caps - which mine has too. By the way, I like the bodyside mouldings in brown. Why not protect it. Min has those too. 👍
Thanks, Mark! Does that NOS game table have the brackets for the front in the box? I'd sure like to see what they look like. That 74 sounds amazing!
@@tonyscarcare5657 Hi Tony. I’ll need to check that out. I recall the folded legs but not much else as I bought it like 15 years ago. I’ll get down to the shed and have a look. 👍
Thank you very much! I'm sure the brackets were part of the kit.
Hi Tony! So I have been watching your channel for a while and I really enjoy your content! I always watch Adam’s channel and I was happy he introduced your channel to us. I think your station wagon is outstanding and I have to say, I am glad that you are doing what YOU want to YOUR car! I am currently restoring a 1990 Buick Electra Park Avenue and I’m also getting heat from people telling me to add or subtract options but in the end I will be the driver and the one to enjoy it so I say “Cheers” to you! It’s gonna look awesome!!! And I for one LOVE the wire wheel covers!!! Gonna look very luxurious! I do have a question for you, I have the Keyless entry system in my Buick but I can’t seem to get it to function and have watched an actual Buick instruction on how to jump the connector behind the glove box, but it’s supposed to cycle the door locks once and then open them but it’s not working so I’m not sure if I have a bad module behind the dash. I know you primarily work on Ford products but just didn’t know if you have any familiarity with some of these GM keyless entry systems of the late 80s? (Yes it’s a new OEM key fob with a new battery too) Thanks for putting out a great channel and I also very much enjoyed the walk around in the scrapyard!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words. I have honestly never worked on any of those cars keyless entry systems. They were definitely the first ones and beat Ford to the game. I'll have to look at my wire diagrams and see if they aren't too old to show that module. It sure sounds to me like the module is where I'd start. I bet it was used on most all of the GM cars with keyless entry at the time. Let me know if you need me to help you find one. There very well could be one in that junkyard. I'll definitely be back there for more videos, so let me know if you see me walk past something that could have it. Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
Thanks Buddy just appreciate that so much!!! I’ll keep ya updated! I love how you are very particular about your cars just like me!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Yes, sir. Thank you!
I like the wire wheel covers too....But I wouldn't like cleaning/polishing them. Too
intricate. The deluxe ones would be a breeze. Looking forward to Adams video showcasing this beauty.
Thank you! I don't really ever plan on them getting dirty enough to worry about cleaning them. That's the same way I treat the wire wheels on my Town Car.
Amazing car.
Thank you, Sir! Much appreciated as always.
Definitely approve of the wire hub caps, power vent windows and illuminated entry. I really like the way the dash looks now. It'll be interesting to see what a complete set of Landau luxury pieces look like, hope you can wrangle them up. Since you asked, I'm not quite sure about the body side mouldings. I personally don't like the look of them, seem a tad bit dark. On the other hand, not using a new old stock set you've got would seem a waste. I'm not quite sure what I'd do in your place. I think my LTD Crown Victoria looks better with them removed.
I'm pretty sure I'll get all of the woodgrain dash pieces eventually. I just hope I can find everything else for the Landau Luxury Group. I'm definitely going to add the bodyside molding. If you read through the comments, you'll see that the yays outweigh the nays. I'm sure I'll love the finished product. Thank you very much for watching and commenting! Much appreciated!
Love your notion of adding the retractable vent windows. I had a 1975 Pontiac Grand Safari, and wish they had been available on that wagon.
Yes, sir! The power minivent windows were a Ford Motor Company exclusive. No one else offered them.
I’m really excited to watch your updated videos on this wagon. Will you be cleaning the engine bay? Keep up the great work.
I will not be "detailing" the engine bay, no. Thank you for watching and commenting. Stay tuned.
That game board is so dam cool, and those wire wheel covers are beautiful. Keep the videos coming Tony. Also would you know where I could find a deep dish rim for a 77 mer marquis? Looking to replace my spare tire but wanna match the deep dish rims I have on it now. Greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much! I have a couple of those wheels off of a Lincoln Town Coupe. I believe the only difference is plastic bushings, which go in the mounting holes for the center cap. I'll have to check into it.
I'm 100% behind everything you're doing except the body side moulding,, it's not gaudy but it's a little busy....
Haha! I really like it. It seems that the yays definitely outweigh the nays, I've got it, and I wanna add it. So close your eyes and let me know what you think after it's installed. 🤣
I'm excited to watch the process !!@@tonyscarcare5657
Door trim is so subtle, I don’t think it will be noticeable with that wood trim, should blend right in, Help protect the car, just make sure it stays on forever, probably would be a different story if you did not have wood trim, every time I see that car, I like it more, most cars you find some thing wrong every time you see them
Well, it definitely stands out when it's on the car. That's why I like it. On a lot of cars, I feel like something needs to break up all of that real estate.
@@tonyscarcare5657 I have no doubt it will look good, and I also have no doubt nobody would know better than you when it comes to FOMOCO
You are correct, it will stand out, but at the same time it matches the wood, not like it’s red colored, so the tan color will blend in, But it will make the car look better
Thank you! That's how I see it.
Thanks, buddy!
cool
Thank you!
the 1970s were a station wagon war between the "Country Squares" and the GM clamshells. that's all you saw out there.
Yeah, it was always the Squire for me.
Glad you got your Game/Snack table hope you do Dual Stainlesssteel exhaust And do your cornering lamps function correctly our new 1975 LTD Country Squire had Landau Luxury group my Dad got tired of going back to Elmhurst Ford in Elmhurst illinois for warranty repairs on the cornering lights they would function intermittently or not at all & would at times just stay stuck on ????
It will definitely be dual exhaust. Probably not stainless. It will last a long time either way because I don't get my cars out in bad weather. Yes, the cornering lamps work great. Honestly, I've never had a problem with them on any of my LTDs or Marquis. I did have trouble with the right cornering lamp relay on my 89 Town Car, but that was an easy fix. Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
I remember back to when bought our first new Country Squire a 1971 dark green I just started the 1st grade we road tested a 1970 LTD Country Squire in Red I was so thrilled as a little kid taking all this in and trying to understand why my parents did not take that car I thought it was so cool because it was special our salesman Mister Coffman or Coughlin I destinctly recall for a 6 year old referred to it as a Demonstrator or Managers Special he told my parents they would get a super deal & he would prorate the warranty my Dad said it had 4100 miles on the clock I did not really understand all that at the time my Parents did not like Red I thought it was cool but they wanted the new style for 71 and that’s what they ordered I think the reason too why I liked the 70 it had the same dash & grille as my Grandmas 69 LTD 4 door she just got the Summer before I loved riding with her in her 69 LTD that car was awesome and her last one she drove until 1981 & past away 6/84 At 77 my Dad & Mom could not recall that salesmen name from 71 but were shocked that I did when they came across the paperwork on that car that my dad kept in an old Strong box LOL aahhh the treasured memories
That's amazing! I believe you mentioned most of this in a previous video. It's crazy how so much car stuff stuck in our heads at such a young age.
Adam's a self admitted design geek. I think he comes at it as it somewhat takes something away from what the designers originally intended-which I get (depending on the car). Rub strips look awful on coke bottle designed GM cars of that era.
Since you're adamant about adding options and components that are factory correct for the factory correct look -and not putting a chintzy looking back-up cam stereo, a spoiler and friggin' flame stickers all over the thing -I think you're headed in the right direction🙂 Still interested to see how the rest of the paint turns out -that fender looks hopeful. Wire caps do look better too -I'd tend to agree....
Thank you! I really rubbed the paint out last night, and it looks great. I think I need to go over it one more time. However, that extra cost "Glow" paint didn't shine a whole lot when it was new. I remember it very well.
Tony, I may be misremembering, but I think that the body side moldings go over the center black stripe of the wood grain.
No, Sir. I've taken it all off of the one in the junkyard as well as looked at many others. If we were to put it on the lower one, we'd run out of room on the front fender, and it wouldn't go between the two little side marker lights on the rear quarter panel.
@@tonyscarcare5657 aha, the old rear side marker light trick! I like that you are optioning it out.
Thank you!
Doesn't the one in the junkyard have those side moldings? Hard for those moldings to look gaudy when they blend in with the woodgrain
Yes, it did have it! I took it all off years ago and still have it. The best part is that I have most of the original clips to use on the NOS moldings. 🙂 Thanks, Doug!
since the body side molding matches the color I don't think they will stand out much but will enhance the look. Is the illuminated entry lock shorter than the current one? It kind of looks like it is and it might show where the round one was once installed.
Thank you! No, the illuminated entry lock cylinder will completely cover up where the original one is. I've added this option before on my 78 Grand Marquis.
That's a single stage paint job, would you ever consider clear coating only the green? I think that shade of green would really look much richer with a clear coat. I had a gold metallic 1970 Mach I that I clear coated and the gold looked much deeper and more expensive.
Yes, I have definitely considered clear coating it. It would definitely need some chip and scratch repair before that was done. Have you seen that new product called Poppy's Patina?
@@tonyscarcare5657 I thought Poppy's was a matte finish? Clear to me always mean high shine. I am not keen on a wipe on finish, as a permanent finish, however, as a test finish to see if you would like it, seems perfect. Deep shine looks like "money" to me. 🤩🤩🤩
They definitely have a high gloss finish.
It's your ride, pimp it out if you want!! If other people don't like it? They can just get stuffed!!
🤣😂🤣😂
Does this car remind anyone of the film 'Vacation'?
That's a very common comparison.
Is that...Wagon Family Truckster Green????
Yes, it is! It's called Light Jade Glow and was an extra cost of $63.00 in 1977.
Does the wagon have the illuminated visor mirror on the passenger side? Or perhaps on both sides?
No, it doesn't, and I've been looking for both sides. I figured a Jade Mark V is my best bet. Town Car visors are too long.
Ford radios of this era are comon ground with only one wire to each speaker and the car body is the ground, Can the Quadrasonic tape radio plug and play or do you need the wires that have seperate positive and negatives for each speaker
All of my 70s Fords and Mercurys have two wire speakers, as well as my 68 Fords. I've only ever seen the one wire speakers in GM cars and couldn't believe how dumb it was.
@@tonyscarcare5657 Floating Ground Speakers.....annoying.
I've never had a problem with one of these radio's and I've had a lot of these cars!
Cool car, Deluxe wheel covers are better than fake wires....grandpa.
Thank you!
@@tonyscarcare5657 wet kisses 😘
How many cars you own ?
I never really know without counting. I have a lot of parts cars as well.
The body side moldings are a hard no. It cheapens the car
Too late!
Please, put a 460 in it. The 400m is a dog....
I'm not racing anyone!
People are lazy buttheads nowadays! I worked at an upholstery shop in the early 90s and there was no job too big or too small for the owners to take on. If you can cut and sew you can easily make up a set of covers, especially since the originals are there to make a pattern from. A lot of these so-called trimmers are only interested in taking pre-made covers and hog-ringing them in place. Well, a trained monkey can do that. And $1300? Crack pipe! This job is equivalent to a boat seat job, of which we did many!
That's exactly what I thought! The more people I talked to, the more pissed off I got. This should be a very simple job for anyone experienced in it.
400M ruined the whole day. Wouldn't have put a dollar on it. Worthless to me
I have a 460 and everything to swap it if I decide to. I've had that 400 in my 78 Mercury Grand Marquis going on 30 years and never had a problem out of it. Not one! I'm not racing anyone!
@@tonyscarcare5657 I live in hill country, no balls for passing coming to mind
Lame!
@@tonyscarcare5657 come on Tony, 400's are slugs, seen M 351's out pull them
I don't need that kind of power! I have looked and looked for a wagon in this color combination. Most of them had the 400. Yes, it would be great to have the 460, and it's possible it will get it. As for now, I've been following these wagons for years, and they are skyrocketing in price. If I didn't pull the trigger now, in 5 years, they may be asking stupid prices like the old Broncos. Sadly, people will pay it, too! I was sick and tired of looking at them, bringing ridiculous prices and not even having tilt or cruise. Let alone no power windows and locks. It's options like that, which means the most to me. I have a 460 with 54k original miles and another one spotted. I'm happy with my purchase, and people are coming out of the woodwork trying to buy it. I've been doing this long enough, I really think I know what I'm doing. I'm so sorry, this car is useless to you.
