Today I worked on a crusty old 1:18 Scale Hot Wheels Corvette. This was living in a box in the basement that a cat must have peed on a bunch. It was nasty but a pretty solid restoration.

OMG! Epic restoration! Looks like a '69. I had a 1980 1:1 version of that about 25 years ago. Same color no T-Tops. An awesome piece of Americana. You Adam Savaged it bitchenly and it looked like a super fun restoration. Awesome prep work. Every step looked so awesome Absolutely fantastic candy paint job. That clear coat was just gorgeous. Can't wait for part 2.
I got sooo EXCITED when you started talking candy paints:)
LOVE IT the blood red is GORGEOUS!!!!
I wish more people would do more 1:18 scale models. The small ones are cute but I love 1:18 scale so this will hopefully be epic.
So much more detail eh?
@@stevenwithanS yes and cooler to look at since they're realistic af
by "more people" do you mean more manufacturers or do you mean more youtube reviewers?
@@foodforthought6960 I guess he means both
For the plastic rivets like in the bumpers , you can use a soldering iron to soften them with the heat, then you just push them out while the plastic is still pliable. The advantage is that you keep most of the plastic, so when you put it back in you just use the iron on the studs to soften them again and re-make the rivet. Pretty fast, pretty clean.
I kind of liked it the way it was. All the dirt and stuff gave it character. It told a story.
Happy to see you working on a larger piece. The candy red looks amazing. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Cant get enough of hotwheels vettes, love the bigger scale. This things gonna look amazing.
The paint is coming out beautifully. Just so you know, that scoop is pretty well set up to mimic actual function. It is designed to draw air from the high pressure area at the base of the windshield.
My grandpa bought one of these new back in ‘69! 427, Sidepipes, T-tops, the whole shebang
Wow! Fantastic work! I’ve always wanted to see someone work on 1:18 scale cars and now my wish has been granted! 👌👍
Very very nice. Loved the way those dark corroded bits just magically disappeared with the flap wheel. Colour was cool too.
Whoa whoa whoa part 2? No no no that's not what I signed up for. I can't wait to see how it turns out I need to know right now. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
O.M.G.! That blood red is outta sight! Can't wait for part 2!
Awesome color pick for thin 1969 Corvette Stingray !!!!!!!!!!!
That candy red is fantastic! But I just found out I’m not a fan of the biggies. But I will watch anything you do! Thanks as always for sharing your great talents!!
Looking gorgeous! Killing me waiting for that part 2. Can't wait!
So happy to see you doing 1:18 scale! Can't wait to see the finished product!
That paint job is off the charts, beautiful color!!!
I was hoping 1 of the pages I follow would dable in my favorite scale and it looks amazing!! Can't wait for pt2
OMG such a great color, especially for a Corvette!! Looking for the 2nd part.
Fun to watch the clear coat transform the matte red to shiny deep candy across the hood and fenders. Don't see that as dramatically on the smaller scale. Can't wait to see what you do with the crusty chrome.
The front of that hood scoop doesn't need to be opened up. Those drew air from the base of the windshield that's why that little black piece was under the hood, the air cleaner had a foam ring around it and sealed to the bottom. Same as the "Cowl", actually ZL2, hood on 1969 Camaros.
Oh, and my original "Sweet 16" '69 Vette was a red one back in the day.
i recently built a 1/25th 1970 corvette model and painted it in testors color shift galaxy blue, which is pearlescent that shines from a nice blue all the way down to a deep, beautiful purple. I recommend it to anyone who wants a easy iridescent paint that comes in a can! Loved the video by the way and am looking forward to part two
My favorite generation of corvette
Absolutely love where this is going! Can't wait for the finish line on this one!
Can't wait for part two! It's a masterpiece in the making!
Did not know Hotwheels made cars in that size! Awesome!
Looking good can’t wait to see the finished product
Wow! looking good, can't wait for part 2 🚘👍
Love it when you crack yourself up a little bit at the beginning
One word, to follow these ones....
*Beautiful.*
can't wait for part two because she already looks beautiful
I have 4 1/24 scale trucks and seeing this makes me happy
3 mega blubs up so far. Can't wait to see the finished product. So I'll tune in to tomorrow, same blub time, same blub station
Wow Ace , you really out did yourself on this one , really dig that paint job. Looks awesome can't wait to see the finished Vette! 👍
Looking very cool! Can't wait for next video👍 Blub Blub Blub
Can't wait to see see this thing when it's finished.
My first visit. Like what I see. There are air erasers which are essentially air brushes that use VERY fine mesh abrasives for paint removal and detail polishing. Have you ever used one of these. When you "wash" that 'vette, how would an ultrasonic cleaning bath work ? To fill voids and corrosion cavities, have you ever tried putting down a thin film of Superglue then dusting the glue with some baking soda ?
Great barn find nice to see the bigger scale cars now and again.
Looking good so far.
All the best.
It is cool to see a bigger piece to work on, although this one has a ton of parts. Paints looks awesome on this scale, looking forward to the finish product.
I feel that spectraflame olive would look really sharp on this. Something about a corvette and the color green just seems really cool.
Paint looks great! Looking forward to part 2.
It's awesome to see a quality 1:18 scale resto, it's gonna turn out super sweet!! 🤘🤘
This will really show off your skills with the cool paint ! can't wait to see this beauty reborn !
Bleb bleb bleb bleb bleb bleb bleb, nice color, dude. Part 2? Cool. It's gonna look so awesome.
Looking pretty good so far. Look forward to seeing part 2
Very nice ! Carnt wait for part 2
gorgeous paint, cant wait to see the endresult
I always look forward to watching a new video from you 'cause you make me laugh with the car sounds or the funny voices you make. I think you're the only one that does that. Don't ever change, please!
Thanks Doug, I try to entertain myself as well as you guys heheh
🤔 can't wait to SEE the build up video! THAT VETTE WILL LOOK AWESOME! 😁✌
That red looks gorgeous!
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR AGES! It's GORGEOUS!
It's looking sweet so far, looking forward to the final reveal! Awesome choice of colour btw.
Looking good, man. Has to be a challenge after doing all those teeny little cars. Can't wait for part 2.
Now that is a thing of beauty. Yet another excellent paint job to add to the list.
Anticipating Part 2... That huge Vette is *EPIC!!!*
Looks badass both ways, with and without the restoration.
Just started watching and Loving it already! It is an Actual Hot Wheels. :) Your gonna nail it. I can already tell.... Nice up on the Scale.
Wow that’s gorgeous!!! Nice Work Brotha!
Red looks great! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey bub I like what you're doing with this project.. I bought the same car at a garage sale a few years ago.. Can't wait to see the finished work! It's starting to look BOSS man!
Looking great buddy..Cant wait for part two..
Dude thats badass, one would be crazy not to own that, wow, awesome paint, cant wait to see part 2👍
A spectraflame brown/rootbeer could look really good on it too
Looking good awesome prep work
Man, that is a beautiful deep red. Can't wait to see it put back together.
I am planning to restore a 1:18 Mustang! Very interesting video, thanks for the tips!
This edition is called the Mako Shark edition. The red is awesome. Very nice preparation before painting. It's always 95% preparation and 5% paint. It's big enough you could cut and buff the body.
Very nice to see variety ... Nice!
Well this one is different... and very cool. Well done!
I am a life long model car and diecast builder/collector and am so glad I found this channel. LOL @ "the stank holding it together".
Hell yeah man. That candy red is sick.
Oh god..! That a very hot car🤩 from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Looks like your doing a fine job on this Vett!
How awesome!!! Bigger cars!!
It's looking amazing so far mate. Nice job
I have that same Corvette that I found at a Goodwill. It was in pretty good shape and complete. I have other cars though that are missing doors or seats and was hoping that there was an ebay wrecking yard for these part but so far I'm coming up nil.
What a friggin beast! Looks beauty.
Your paint work is flawless dude, even on a bigger scale car, with a touch of humor, my grandfather is pretty stoked to see the finished work. Cheers man
THAT SMILIE THOUGH!!!!!
For the chrome you can use alclad chrome spray, it will give you amazing results.
The important thing is to have a perfect high gloss finish black as base colour then apply alclad with the airbrush.
Btw thumbs up for the magnificent work, only one thing, I would have removed the door panels and hood, but your work is great.
Wow! Can you please do another one of this scale?
I have 2 more, yup! Just as crusty.
@@DiecastResurrection Your cars come out so AWESOME!
I’ve had a hard on for 1:18 my whole life aside from 1:64. I could literally binge watch 100 of these vid!! Wow these are cool. Super stoked for the Trans Am!!! High five!
Looks awesome. Love that color.
The blood red candy looks great,
a purple spectraflame would've been cool also.
I didn't know Hot Wheels made a car of that scale. I know my son would love to have a Corvette like that. Nice paint job.👍👍
I had this exact model!! When I was super going (5 or 6). I remember I lost the t tops within 2 weeks lol
Excellent work! 👍
You always amaze me with your skills. Great job
I been reading the comments Bro and see I told you this was a good idea! I am really happy you found a way to make it work and yes a two parter was a great idea! She is loookin finer than Frog hair split three ways! Keep up the work my Man, your skill is always impressive :))
Omg, have you ever seen the movie with Mark Hamil called Corvette Summer?. You should modify that stingray to look like the one in Corvette Summer. That would be epic. And that car is perfect for it. And I know you have ed the talent to pull it off.
I saw that flik in the theater when it was new. The Vette was epic, but maybe a bit too 70s. I liked Annie Potts' van better!
man that is some beautiful work love the color great job oh thanks for the video
The blood red just screams Corvette. That's high quality automotive finish there ! 🍻
Thanks man, with that candy it just gets better and better the more coats!
my favorite classic Corvette, looks badass now 😎👍
Can't wait to watch the next video
This will definitely be worth the wait for that awesome candy
Please do more of these!! 1/18 is the best scale!! 😍
Corrosion spots: 600 grit then Green Stuff dent and scratch filler from AutoZone. Them apply a "Filler primer" and you get a nice finish without distortion to the metal flats.
That is just beautiful!
Good job i love 1:18 car models
HEY!!!! I see the Roadkill Jeep in the background! Nice work!
