The song is based on Canterbury tales character from the miller tale about a group of men and women making time for pilgrimage to Canterbury cathedral during 13th/14th century England they tell all kinds of stories of sex, lies, trade, how to help people, to pay for a education and bring people up in their station, dirty jokes type things and religion this is in the book not the song. It's written in old English and it was on exam's for British children about thirty years ago, but, not now. This song was a summer song hit and was everywhere for years during the late sixties and up to the early eighties at womens clothing shops, fun fairs, the seaside amusemens slots and coin flip machines this music was playing on piers and at carnival's
