    17:48 Rules correction. The start player for round one is not the youngest player, it is the player that has spent the least time on the planet Terra. Often this is the youngest player but, for example, an astronaut that has spent time on the internation space station could very well be the start player over someone younger than them.

    For 8:20 when you ask for a thematic connection to the pulsar (i watch a lot of star trek):
    First you have to understand that in Eclipse, every “round” of the game represents decades, if not, centuries of actual time. A civilization growing from one system to two+ and gaining such huge technological advancements would take such an amount of time. Now, the pulsar itself does not emits its burst ALL the time; thats not how pulsars work. Instead, their surge occurs periodically for every “generation” of your species, which is once per round. As such, when the time comes, your species harvests the exorbitant amount of energy produced from this phenomena. Now, high energy radiation cannot be used to chart stars obviously; hence, you cannot explore with the pulsar nor can high energy radiation influence territories you control. High energy radiation also does not discover new technologies; it is simply a source of energy. As such, the pulsar does not give an explore, influence, or research action. However, the energy produced from a pulsar is definitely enough to power a ships drive. Normally, one would have to spend money for “fuel” for their ships to move. However, the pulsar’s energy can also be used to power a ships drive to move; hence you can move with the pulsar. The energy produced from a pulsar can also be used to build. Obviously, building things requires two things: materials and energy, which is normally paid for by money (money pays for the construction effort put in to build things). Now, you still have to pay for the materials with your actual materials resource. However, the energy and effort used to build can now by supported by the pulsar instead of money. If thats too hard to believe, how about the energy produced is traded with builders so builders build the ships. Last is the upgrade, which is the hardest to explain. Basically, upgrading a ship schematic requires lots of money to install a hardware upgrade, hence you must spend money on an upgrade action. However, the pulsar provides energy, which can essentially be sold at a somewhat fair price to upgrade ships.
    Hope that was convincing; obviously its not perfect, but ya. thx for reading. Also, thx for the good eclipse content!

      Astronomy major here! This is not how pulsars work. Their radio emission is continuous through two jets at opposite ends much like a lighthouse. It does not release a burst of energy every X years or anything. The one similar thing I can think of to your description would be x-ray bursts where the neutron star accretes enough mass from a companion star to trigger a powerful burst. However, this is on the timescale of hours to day in terms of period and not decades as you describe.

    • @DaCooGa
      @DaCooGa Před rokem

      @@mehmetakharman2253 Haha never thought I would come back to this comment after so long. Thats really cool you are studying astronomy. I wonder how that influences your view on sci fi stuff like Eclipse??
      Anyways, I guess then if a "pulsar" only emitted x-ray bursts every hours/days instead of every decade or so, then logically, that would instead mean the civilization controlling the star has simply harnessed the energy long enough over a period of years to do whatever action it is the pulsar is letting them take.
      Haha perhaps I have been playing too many video games or watched too much Star Trek, but I woulda sworn I heard somewhere in that stuff that something happens every many years or something... lol

    The black hole, when you enter it do you at that time specify where you are going? Or when do you reveal your destination?
    The rift cannon needs a lot of work to be balanced. 1st its ridiculous that you can equip it on fighters! Next it should never be able to self inflict damage. In house variants incoming.

    • @TheGameLocker
      @TheGameLocker  Před 2 lety +1

      For the black hole you only declare your destination when you actually choose to place your ship on the sector (either instantly, or, if 1-2 rounds away, during one of your turns). For rift cannons, yeah they are pretty darn powerful because they don't cost any energy and they bypass all shields and computers. The "cost" is the self-inflicted damage so you need plenty of hull to use them consistently. I won't include them in every game, because they tend to do REALLY well for the player who gets them.

  • @jaafit
    @jaafit Před 3 lety

    Does the Rift Cannon backfire on all rifters in the space belonging to that player? Or just all rifters of the same initiative who fired at that time? It doesn't quite make sense that a ship that didn't fire rift cannons yet could take rift damage.

      It is indeed how I explained in the video - they backfire on ALL of your ships with Rift weapons in that battle. • @TheGameLocker
      @TheGameLocker  Před 3 lety

      Just the opponent in that particular battle. Each battle only has two players involved, so if your ship “self-destructs” it’s treated as if your opponent had destroyed it normally with their own cannons. So for example, if your Dreadnaught self-destructs due to rift cannons, your opponent draws three reputation tiles at the end of the battle as if they had destroyed it themselves. Hope that helps!

    I don’t think I’m ever going to spent an influence token on the pulsar; as far as I can gather, it simple means I would be forced to spend one action and influence token (which is permanently placed in the sector) on only one activation rather than getting to choose if I spend that token on typically two activations. That one build planet there does not justify the cost in my opinion 🤔

  • @deathgrip509
    @deathgrip509 Před 3 lety +1

    That pulsar tile seems over powered. Once everyone has passed you can continue to take in essence free actions as long as you like. Moving your ships anywhere you want that you can get to. The issue is there is not cost to doing an upgrade action. Also for free you can removed any upgrade you want and place the same one back again if you wanted. Maybe this isn't as good as I'm thinking but if you get a big fleet could easily dominate.

    • @TheGameLocker

      Hey, thanks for the quick answer.
      As you mentioned the player order is easy to recreate otherwise. Same for the alternate ancient guardian ship blueprints.
      But those little new discovery tiles I have no clue how to do properly. Because as far as I understand , if the discovering player choses to take the victory points, the other players don't get to know what the other side of the tile was. This makes it almost impossible to custom make discovery tiles, as their backs would need to be indistinguishable from the originals.
      But I guess I could just repurpose some of the mineral discovery tiles and glue a custom print on them.
      Anyway the one tile I'm really interested in is the adaptive hull, as I imagine one can build a whole game strategy around it, if it's found early... :)

    • @TheGameLocker
      @TheGameLocker  Před 3 lety

      There was talk on the BGG forums a while back about drawing discovery tiles from a bag rather than putting them on the table. For discovery tiles you can’t take right away (like the GCDS and Ancient sectors), you can put some kind of a placeholder on the hex as a reminder (like one of the pink damage cubes). Using a bag could be a lot easier to custom make discovery tiles since it wouldn’t have to look perfect.

    • @AkantorJojo
      @AkantorJojo Před 3 lety

      That sounds like a reasonably good solution.
      There is one last Question I have (for now): Is there a PDF order PNG or the likes version of the backers only content that I could download and print? Maybe I need a BGG account and search there...
      Else I would have to custom design these things, or see if I can edit them out of YT.
      Anyway thanks for your help. Can't wait to get the game shipped to me :)

You can't buy this boxed collection anymore, except maybe on eBay for a huge markup. In my opinion, unless you are a collector, I do NOT think it's worth it to try to hunt this box down, because the kickstarter exclusive stuff adds SO LITTLE to the game experience.
