Am i the only one who it took about 10 minutes to realize he was saying "o rings?" Very good, informative video, that Yankee accent! 🤣🤣🤣
No, you’re not. I’ve never heard it pronounced that way.
Oreans? Oranges?
Definitely not a Yankee accent. Sounds more Canadian.
@@Mustang9831 last I checked, Canada was in fact north of the Mason Dixon. 😉
I don't know you you become a mechanic without learning how to pronounce "O-Ring". It sounds like he's saying "auring" with the emphasis on the wrong syllable.
I have probably watched over a thousand CZcams videos learning everything I can about the 7.3, when it comes down to it and I do a project, I always watch Clint. He's the man.
I appreciate each segment on the 7.3 rebuild. I watch certain ones multiple times.
I have a 02 7.3 for about 6 or 7 year and all the videos that you putting out here are amazing, thank you so much!! God bless sir!
oh no, please do not listen to this guy. ONLY HACKS use RTV where o-rings should be used.
High temp rtv with o rings is the best way to fix exhaust leaks... In place of rtv... Some use copper sealant
Man...you definitely couldnt explain it anymore crystal clearer..it makes me feel confident to do the job and that when i do tackle mine, the job will be done right the first time.
oh no, please do not listen to this guy. ONLY HACKS use RTV where o-rings should be used.
Clint, you remind me of my father when i was a kid rebuilding vw motors in our garage. He always went the extra mile to get things surgically right. Keep up the excellent videos.
Appreciate the common sense when checking for flatness of any motor parts where seals are involved, especially cylinder heads. Real mechanics as yourself know first hand this is important! Just subscribed to your channel, good information for many people as mechanics or personal. Keep up the good work!
don't give this guy props. he uses RTV in this application which is totally WRONG
Glad I found your channel. You don't just throw things together. Thanks
It’s nice to find someone who truly understands the art of good clean quality work.

I watch a lot of your videos. I'm not expert - but you sure as heck seem like you know exactly what you're talking about. Thanks for all the great content!
Good Information sir. Being a old machinist and mechanic it is good to see there are still meticulous and do it right individuals out there sharing and teaching.

Thank you for being a person that cares about future problems. I would love to see more info on turbo and preventive maintenance.

As always fantastic information. Appreciate your expertise, honesty, and concise delivery.
Great video! I like how thorough you're keep up the hard work.
Iam new to your Chanel! I just want to say, you are a amazing man! Thank you for your years of hard work, and sacrifice! I am new to the 7.3 platform, and it can be overwhelming. I run my small tree company and use my( 2000 7.3) every week. I simply can not afford to take it to anyone. So over the last 4 months I have been learning. Getting my hand dirty and figuring it out. Iam a full blown gaser, and new to diesel engines. So now that I have found your content, I will be steadfast in this journey to protect my bottom line and above all.... Do it rite! Thank you for your time if you time.

It took me 3 tries to get my turbo not to leak. Brand new Ford O-rings every time. The last time I used RTV and what do you know it hasn't leaked in over 4 years. Hadn't seen this video just gave it a shot. Nothing else changed in the installation. Mind you it was a brand new Garrett pedestal as well.@@logicVSpassion
Pretty much what I do everytime I'm mating machined surfaces. I... love... this...man!
You're a rare breed these days sir. Good content!
Clint I DID learn something today. Thank you for your 7.3 videos sir
Clint, thank you so much for this video, it was VERY informative and helpful. Not saying I will end up doing this as I have to sell the old girl. The few things that I have done have made a definite impact. Thanks again for the video, keep on wrenching.
Very well done, free high quality technical training.
Thanks for the great info doing mine this week very helpful!
I'm new but know what you mean when you talk about Techs working in the industry and I agree from experience. I bought my Ford new in 1997 and will never get rid of it. I'm having some oil consumption issues and will be doing some checking but the info I heard from you has given me some ideas. You have some of the best info and i will be looking for more videos.
Nice video with precise instruction!
I'm getting ready to rebuild my turbo and your videos are invaluable. 1996 F350, 583,000 miles. Thank you
Very entertaining, and filled with good information. I like to listen to people like you when I am researching information to decide if I want to buy a vehicle. You might consider checking your microphone volumes and positioning before recording. One of them was quieter and different pitch. I was also wondering if you could include any changes, like from different years they might have incorporated. Or just comment if powerstroke stayed the same from initial to later years. It is clear that you know what you are talking about, so your knowledge is appreciated. So, thank you.
glad i found your channel i been dreading this job i like the details you discuss
Throw some wrenches down the driveway. thank you for all hard work........top shelf 7.3 mechanic.
You do a great job 7.3s rock!
Years ago… I learned that taking a vehicle to a mechanic shop, means I’ll be paying someone to screw up my vehicle… I’m no mechanic, but I’m somewhat inclined, but more importantly, I take pride in my work and I pay attention! And I know stuff warps at over 1000 degrees if it ain’t torqued even or totally clean when you put it back together…. And I did the same trick you’re showing now
Excellent content! Thanks for your time.
You're spot on! Keep up the good work..
I recently bought a 1997 Ford F-250 Powerstroke with the 7.3. It had been sitting 10+ years. It was a one owner truck and the man passed that owned so his wife sold it to me. You’re content is awesome and I’ve learned so much from watching your videos. The o rings on my turbo are leaking so I’m going to rebuild the whole turbo. I got it running but it smokes excessively and it smells like burnt diesel. The smoking clears up some until you give it throttle then it’ll smoke you out. Not sure if it’s the injectors or something else. Also found fuel in my oil.
your injector o-rings are bad
As always thorough n great tips
Very informative and helpful thanks for the time you spend creating these awesome videos.

Had my turbo pedastal orings start leaking about a year after getting fixed. I've had it shop repaired 3x now. I'm about to tackle it myself so this video was great! Can't have anything nice nowadays unless you do it your damn self or are made of money and can afford someone like you. 🤣

Watch out for hacks in the comments.
Thanks for taking the time. How would you suggest cleaning where the o rings sit? And/or how do you prefer to clean the “stained” areas of old o-ring/sealant/gasket material with out getting the abrasive material into places it shouldn’t be?
lacquer thinner and a soft plastic bristle brush like the kind for cleaning auto hvlp guns

Hello Clint. Great video! A tip; use the sound stream from one camera. Sound levels are almost the same but the sound difference between the 2 cameras is huge (I'm listing on big speakers). Keep up the good work and thank you!

I like how Very thorough your information is as you do your 7.3 repair videos. However, if you want critic I would say it would help if you could impart your experience with these repairs in a less tensive manner? I like your ending " Hey What are you still doing here" its definitely you but more relaxed.
Thank you very much

Thank you sir! One question what do you recommend for cleaning the surface. obviously not like you said scoth guard or as ny to hing abrasive.
Love the intro and music

Great video bro
Thanks for putting these videos out there. I'm pulling and rebuilding my 2000 Excursion 7.3 turbo soon and I'll have my laptop handy so I can watch your turbo rebuild step-by-step. One question I have regarding the waste gate. I understand you wouldn't want to go crazy with it, but would it be a problem to increase the pressure just a couple of PSI, maybe go from 5-8 psi up to maybe 10psi?
That o-ring pronunciation might be one of the wildest things I’ve heard on CZcams.
I saw the thumbnail showing the O-ring in the compressor outlet, and thought the video was going to be about that one. For some reason I cannot find that O-ring anywhere for the E99 7.3's. After pinching one, I dug thru piles of "junk" and discovered that the thermostat gasket, even though it has a square profile is a viable replacement gasket. The 99 - 03 compressor outlets are a larger diameter and they are the ones you can find. As for the pedestal O-rings, I've never had one leak.
Thank you! Saved my friend Swim from breaking things up with his impact gun😂
Thank you for the great video. Attention to detail is king. I do all my own repairs now because I've had such bad experiences with most repair shops. I'm curious about your opinion of the EBPV pedestal delete. Thanks again for all of your great info.
oh no, please do not listen to this guy. ONLY HACKS use RTV where o-rings should be used.
Great job
Thanks for the videos Clint. I am in the process of doing several of the things you’ve recommended. I have 2 quick questions: 1. I’m doing the CCV mod and turning the doghouse around. Should I do the same thing (use RTV) to the O rings on the CCV doghouse? 2. I’m doing the double CCV mod for the passenger side (from one of your other videos), could I route that hose into a brass Y fitting and send it out the same direction as the drivers side CCV hose? Like, both CCV’s into one hose in the engine bay, and then routing one hose down the frame of the truck? Thanks!
Do you use any anti-seize, or threadlocker on the two, turbo-to-pedestal bolts? Ty
I’ve seen some god awful work coming out of some shops nice to watch someone doing this correctly thanks ehhhh
Awesome lesson!! Any tips on the HPOP seal to Reservoir?
Great video. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
I jus use hi temp copper never seize on all my gasket surfaces, never had an issue. If it's good enough for 1500lb steam lines,it's good enough for my 7.3
Clint, thank you, sir, you are the man. Thank you for all the lessons on my 7.3 them everyday. My 97 f350 dually is at 350,000 miles last week had my 1st check engine light.. it's running again but I get a check engine light while the glow plug Selenoid is on. I'm not sure which thing is is not working properly. I've ordered a wiring harness... any input would be great
My trouble is that I replaced the hpop lines but didn't go back with OEM. They leak . None are machined correctly. Without that groove to retain the o-ring seals, they simply push out of blow out. What now? By the way, I truly appreciate your candor and experience.
Excellent video, good knowledge for a successful job done right. One camera would be better.
After everything is installed, is their a wait time to fire the truck up for the RTV to set up?
Your like the intimidating dad of a high school kids date. 😂 I do like how you get your point across though. No BS.
Question Clint I'm doing the pedestal delete do you do the trick between the block and the pedestal also with the rtv? Or just a good torque with new orings? Great video.
I was curious about the same things because I’m doing the same
I had the issue if leaking turbo but was a stripped out rear turbo hold down bolt... somehow the threads with helicoil went bad and had to be redrilled and reinsert new heli coil.. used the new better O rings and torqued in stages as well.
A line mechanic on datsun / nissans I say thankyou
This guys awesome
Turbo pedestals don’t warp. Just look at the shape of that casting. Even tho it’s aluminum it’s not gonna warp. The turbo in this video may have worn bearings and maybe bypassing oil but I can gurantee you that the pedestal insta warped.
Never mind I saw you answered that question
The degree or careful cleaning is about the same as how we marines cleaned our m16 rifles back in the mid and late 1980's. United states marines that is. We used a Teflon oil of some sort and a green plastic brush, not unlike a tooth brush. No abrasives or metal brushes were allowed. You really can clean carbon off down to the factory finish with oil an a plastic brush if you are patient enough to let the oil do it's work.
You got it very well said Thanks
Hey Clint I have a 95 that is dumping oil somewhere it has no visible leaks on the ground and I’m not seeing any up top the turbo has some play in the shaft but not much however there was visible oil in the y pipe and intake. The truck is blowing white smoke almost like a steam from the oil fill hole but no pressure coming out of it I don’t see any oil coming out of the exhaust either and the coolant looks fine the truck has 10k miles on new full force injectors
Got to be the turbo if you see oil on the y pipe or exhaust connections If it was a valve or piston ring when you start it you would here a fast skip then you know thats the issue
Firstly let me say I certainly appreciate your commitment to quality repairs. Nice to see common sense being used as well.
One question that I have is, what did you use to clean the pedestal aluminum. You said, "Don't use Scotchbrite pads or sandpaper". That makes perfect sense, but did you use a type of liquid cleaner or thinners to clean the O-ring seats to eliminate the discoloration?
As a twice ASE MASTER w/ Specialized Ford, GM, & Chrysler Training....am offended by the comment stated about dealer technicians on commission. Yeah.., we're just a bu🎉of shade trees and crooks.
Great info on really getting a prefect seal for both the pedestal And the turbo with the 2 bolts ready to drop in! So what's your though on using a RiffRaff EBPV Delete pedestal?? Also back in 2003 I changed the turbo wheel with a Banks wheel an of course I dismantle the turbo and held the exhaust side wheel with a rag and Hand removed the intake side wheel!
And Yes, the Turbo is a bugger to remove and replace so this time I'll be 62 so this is going to be even a harder job :)
I always install EBPV delete pedestal and get rid of that flapper with Banks Big Mouth, Yes that turbo gets heavier with age I use to remove gm tran's like bench pressing weights I could never do that now
@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD So would you go Banks or is RiffRaff quality good for the pedestal and the EBPV delete kit??
Both are quality products I would lean to RiffRaff because of faster customer service on all levels Where Banks is such a large company and covers so many products They just don't have a passion for diesels its just another product to sell.
Thoughts on KC turbos? I just ordered a billet plus. It's pretty much a stock turbo just with some upgrades. I also picked up the CNC fabrication 4 line feed fuel kit I have the bad return line.
@@lawrencemarshall4205 Heard good things about KC Turbos and I hope it Rocks on your Rig! I'm sticking with a Garret and do some upgrades to the turbo, and RiffRaff has a great supply of mods for the Garret :)
Starting a new job this that actually pays very well so I'll be putting a wish list together for Big Blue, my 2000 F-250 7.3... Married coming on 36 years and I've always found it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission to Blow lots of cash on my truck :)

@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD does anything need to be done with the EBP sensor after the delete?
Hi Clint. Thank you for this detailed video. I have a question and hoping you may have some ideas to share. I followed your instruction on what seemed to be a successful removal and installation, with no leaks. I waited several days for the RTV to dry completely and fired her up, then went for a test drive. My turbo worked prior to the installation and now it doesn't. I can hear it making a loud scratchy noise. It has no power when accelerating. Any thoughts on what I could have done wrong? Thanks, Chris
gotta check all the connections I guess never had any one have this issue before
just thought waist gate connection may be in wrong position
