To be fair that's quite a silly way to do that when referring to countries within a group. I mean it works OK if you're talking about all countries but for the EU why would you not draw that same conclusion 🤷 why not just pick two countries from the EU that are furthest away from each other. Just also shows that someone wrote the article that did not travel nor understand EU countries or you'd not have daid those two I think.
@@MrMazza4321 it’s not really silly in the US at least. it’s meant to describe that it’s encompassing everything in the entire alphabet from A to Z. it’s not supposed to be taken literally. It’s why Amazon has an arrow from A to Z. If you google from Alabama to Wyoming, the first and last US states alphabetically, it shows it’s not just for countries. if you draw a line from those two states, it doesn’t cover all of the states. but it’s weird to be like “from Alaska to Maine to Florida to Hawaii”
Sweden is further down the list though. As well as Slovenia and Spain. Wales etc...

I get your point...but I will say, in addition to following the Honest Guide, that I asked ChatGPT to make me an itinerary for a recent visit to Prague. When I got home I compared what I enjoyed against what Gpt had suggested, and gotta say it was pretty good. Honest Guide ideas of course were excellent ! (except for the Hockey Bar suggestion, that place was a weird vibe imo)

Whenever I read an article like this I immediately know the author has never been there. Dead giveaways are stock photos, lack of speciifcs, and following a horrible SEO formula that sucks all life from the writing.
Unfortunately most people consume these articles without question, otherwise Google wouldn't rank them. Thank you for highlighting the issue.

I been to Prague many times. The drivers are very aggressive. Best not to jay walk and do not assume the drivers will stop for pedestrians.
@@toddnelson7393 There are two kinds of pedestrians in Prague: The quick and the dead. Or, to paraphrase lying Ayrton Senna, you have to go for a gap that exists, otherwise you won't cross the road.
Prague does not have the worse drivers I seen in my travel. Visiting Prague is worth the risk. One of my favorite places to visit. @@vaclav_fejt
A friend of mine works for a company that writes articles for a number of different websites in need of content. She gets a topic like "The best places to visit in X" or "Things to avoid in Y" and two hours to write the article. You can imagine the quality.
Love your content man. And these are not journalists writing the articles, these are content writers who are mostly working directly or indirectly for SEO companies to build links for ranking their website higher on Google. I used to do this job like 10 years ago, we would basically create an article by collecting information from other bunch of articles, the relevancy of information, the accurate information is usually thrown out of the window when you're required to write minimum 2 articles a day. So you can imagine, how much research would go into these articles(2-3 hours max).
Exactly this - these aren't real Journalists but people writing fake articles in order to make some easy cash. USA Today isn't a legitimate source of information online because their articles are just clickbait trash, similar to larger News organizations in the US but they make a literal killing in that market. I've seen articles written months, or even YEARS, after an event had taken place and they'll make up some fake story about the event acting as if it's still going on. It's far easier now because people can just have AI write up a fake article for them and they'll just send it over to USA Today or anyone like that in order to make some quick cash.

(For non-railfans, the locomotive on it is a czech legend, going by the 754 class and nicknamed "brejlovec" - the person wearing the goggles (or mayyyybe glasses), since it looks like doing so. It was manufactured in the seventies and eighties (during the communist times) in the now defunct ČKD factory, which was situated in Vysočany, a part of Prague and it's still found in regular service in some places around here/Czechia(Near Prague, it can be found on some of the weekend trains going on the Posázavský Pacifik/trains of the S8 line from Prague to Čerčany)...)
We have some of them in Poland and we call them "nurek" which means "a diver". Doesn't it look more like a diving mask, not the spectacles?

Yeah, noticed the sweater immediately. Lovely! Czechoslovakia made quite some distinct locomotives back then. My favourite being class 240, whose design exudes a kind of retro futurism vibe. I visited Czechia back in the early 90s by train, and seeing the 754 and 240 is something i never forget.

Having grown up in Czech Republic, they definitely have one of the greatest Christmas markets. My favorite from childhood memory was always going to Výstaviště Floria in Kroměříž where they always convert the exhibition into a Christmas fair.
USA Today has been a rag for a long time. This is why I dislike Travel and Leisure and other similar publications, they have "journalists" who write about stuff in which they have never been or experienced. On my travel blog, I only write about my own person experiences. Haha..."Cherry Republic," that's in Traverse City. I know this because I have been there. ;-) Thanks for your great videos. I have been to Prague about 5 times, it's one of my favorite cities in Europe.
When I arrived in Prague (and lived there for over seven years) in March of 1991, a half liter of beer cost about 5 crowns, about 15 cents at the time.
Yes but everything else was also cheaper and im pretty sure water was 3 crowns at the time and a long time ago even shoes were 5 crowns (in the 1970s)

Your honest videos kinda describe my experience in Prague. I was there before I saw your channel, like 5 years ago or more. I got a few sub-optimal experiences in several places, but I'm thinking of visiting again early this summer.
I don't drink usually, but I'd definitely go for a cold beer in a warm afternoon after a long walk, climb to a castle, or something, and I definitely don't want anything fancy. Don't care about the table, don't care about the fancy shmancy menus or music. Just open air, a basic chair, and a beer.
Alright, I talked my way into it now. Buying tickets. See ya there! Though I'll try to take a bus (train?) to other towns around Prague.
Ahah, enjoy Prague and if you´ll stay for more than 3 day, visit local gems like Kutná Hora, Litoměřice, Karlovy Vary and Český Krumlov. If these are too far for one day trips, there are nice cities around Prague as well like Poděbrady (small spa town) or Mělník (town with a chateau on a hil above the confluence of two largest rivers).
Try Břevnovský klášterní pivovar sv. Vojtěcha (brewery of the monastery St. Vojtech). It's a nice tram ride to a small brewery with excellent beers.

This video reminds me of the time my local Czech friend and I were downtown and stopped by an Irish style pup for a guinness. We started talking to a German tourist there and he told us how surprised he was that the alcohol wasnt cheap in Prague. We had to explain to him, that he needed to get out of these tourist trap places in the center. Its a shame, because I live in Prague 1 and there are some good places. This is inspiring me to make a blog about places to party and drink in Prague that dont take advantage of tourists. Something like a "best dive bars in Prague" type article.
The Austria to Slovakia thing is a turn of phrase, I don't think any native English speakers reading that would assume they are referring to their geographical locations.
I automatically assumed and thought "wait, but they border each other. And their capital cities are the closest capital cities to each other in Europe. What are they talking about?"

Hi J&H Honest Guides! In Jan ‘24, I was at Petřín tower and stopped at the glass-fronted place next to it called Petite Eiffel for a beer and got a Pilsner Urquell for CZK24, which was 80p! The cheapest I have ever found in Prague! I was very pleased 😊
Maybe it was that cheap due to the season and location? CZK24 was also written on the blackboard that they had pitched outside the main door.
A nice cheap pilsner for those who make the funicular journey to see the view up at Petřín, and perhaps something worth stopping for after the viewpoint. Afterward, I went to Strahov Monestary Brewery. It was a wonderful day.
Went to Prague for the Christmas markets a few years ago watched r videos for 6 months before we went and came with a list of things to do. Like wandering down certain hidden tunnels to find a cute restaurant. I wandered around ALOT by myself and felt safe because u helped where to go and what not to do. Thank you

One correction: while pilsner (lager) is indeed the traditional and most widespread type of beer here, a lot of local breweries making ales have been popping up here recently, too. (An ale is easier to brew than a lager, apparently, so if a new microbrewery opens, chances are they are going to start with ales.) And by recently, I mean like two decades or so.

I guess the author of the article searched a list of EU countries in alphabetical order and took the first and the last (and missed Slovenia, Spain and Sweden), not bothering to use a map… cause, you know… why bother using a map ?
There were 10 countries cited in the article: Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania, and Slovakia, thus Austria to Slovakia alphabetically a point lost on Honest Guide. The phrase "Austria to Slovenia" was used in a subtitle and did not imply a physical journey through connecting countries.
I think when the article writer says “from Austria to Slovakia” they mean “from A to S” since there isn’t a country starting with Z. Not geographically but in alphabetical order!
I didn't know pilsner beer got its name from you guys. It's also really common over here in the Netherlands, we call it a "pilsje", though a lot of people use the term interchangeably with "bier".
The introduction to this episode reminded me how important what you do here is for tourists. I've been to Prague once, during the Christmas market, and aside from the beautiful landmarks, I was quite disgusted by everything else. A mediocre restaurant that charged me extra for dry bread served as an appetizer, which I couldn't refuse, and similar stories left me disenchanted with Prague for a long time, until I discovered this channel and realized that I had become a typical victim of scammers and that exploring Prague could be a much better and more enjoyable experience. Thank you for that.

I did go to the Christmas market in the Old Square. I loved it! We also stopped at a couple markets in Germany. Prague was my favorite (and we are going to go back for a longer stay in two years).

actually had a beer and some food at one of those touristy joints near the clock tower in old town square and wasn't ripped off! I want to say it was like under $8 US for a liter. So yeah, more than a more locals type joint that we went to later that night, but we were fine since we knew we were paying a bit more for location and atmosphere.

Not Prague I know, a few years ago we visited Pilsen and bought a half litre of Urquell for 35 Czech koruna, at the time was about £1.10. I think it was a place near the Skoda factory.
How many years ago it was? Such price is totaly off in 2024, that's like price 15 years ago.

I wentp prague in oct 2023. Although my wife and I usually go to the most local places and followed ypur suggestions, we never found a pint of beer under 2. Half liter was about 4 and up or so in some places. You are right honest guy!!

A year ago I got beer for 57 Kč, like €2.3 but when my dad came to visit me in Prague at some point as he needed to rest he decided to sit in one of those places in the Old Town Square and paid 125 Kč if ai remember correctly, like €5.
It was a year ago and beer price apparently increased but if you don’t go in tourist places you can find decent prices.
As someone that drove from Scandinavia to the Balkans. I am glad Prague is finally getting a ring road... Driving through downtown Prague is such a hassle, after you have driven on highways till now..

I lived in Teplice and worked on Duchcov for a year. Stuff was definitely cheaper there. But I don't drink alcohol, so I can't speak to the prices. I did go to Prague at least once a month. It's my favorite city in the ehole world. Came back in 2003 and then in 2006 for my honeymoon. Hoping to return in 2025. It's been too long.

Love your vides. Wish I had been familiar with Honest Guide before my wife and I spent a week in Prague in July 2023. Nevertheless, though we undoubtedly dined at many of the wrong places, Prague was the high point of our holiday and we would love to return and spend all of our time in the Czech Republic. Our next visit will be better informed thanks to Honest Guide.
First, I had to laugh at the end... with your accent, saying "politician" sounded like "pole-a-tician" and you were talking about Polegate haha! Anyway... none of those articles would remotely get me interested in visiting Prague. What HAS intrigued me is you talking so passionately and honestly about your city! I would go for the history, architecture, and the chance of meeting you yelling in the square! Haha! Who decides to travel to a European country (even from as close as the UK) because they have cheap beer? Maybe there are a few people... but no one from the US is going to do that. I've been to Prague, and it's amazing! If you stay away from the Old Square. Sure, go and see it, it's lovely, but when it comes to beer, just go somewhere else. There are so many lovely pubs! Try them, support the small pubs!
Trip Advisor results are personalised based on what you've spent time looking at before. It's entirely likely that they see something totally different to you
I guess if you go to a supermarket outside of the 'old centre', you will get some 'pint' that are less expensive still. And go to another store to get the glass and drink it inside your hostel-room or cheaper accomadation.
Now many years ago I was doing cycling-trips in the CZ and also met lots of youngmen getting drunk but mostly in pubs and tasting all local beers. I did drink too much some days too.... always nice to try local drinks and food.
Cheapest Beer I have ever had in Prague was in 2015 when exchange was almost 39CZK to 1GBP.
There were some bars where you could get a half litre for just under £1
Flights wise cheapest I have ever had return was £90
Not now though , prices have gone through the roof. Still cheaper than the UK though for Staropramen

To be truly honest, there were at least two locals on the square: Janek and Honza. 😜
I have been in the Old Town Square Christmas Market with my Czech daughter-in-law pushing my Czech grandson in a buggy. Forgot my gloves and by the time I was in the square the temperature had dropped to -9°C. I managed to find a stall with gloves and had trouble handing over the money for them because my hands wouldn't work because they were so cold. So more locals, even if just passing through.

Well, I remember, In 2022 it was still possible to find 0.5 of local lager (not necessarily PU) for like 40-45 CZK (obviously not in the city center).
And regarding ales: yes, I agree that the typical beer for the Czech Republic is lager (to be more precise Bohemian Pilsner), however, there are plenty of small breweries that have at least 1 type of ale in their beer list.

Places of interest to visit by public transport. Location of places of interest and their relationship to the general area. In short, it’s like explaining the city layout. Make sense?

Sometimes 'ale' is used in English to mean beer in general. I think most people from North West England would agree, but fair points otherwise.
"A modern metropolis with medieval roots" - I can add one city to the list, the 1st that came to my mind actually - Tallinn, Estonia 😄 Though it may not be big enough to warrant "metropolis", but it certainly has medieval roots or actually even very medieval look *today* (in Old Town). Anyway, "Europe booziest city with cheap beer" admittedly sounds great for us from Nordic countries, but I fully realize it's not the truth ;) Na zdraví!!
I think they probably used the phrase "from Austria to Slovakia" in the alphabetical context...as in "from A to Z". Most Americans can't find either of those countries on a map, so assuming the USA Today readers would NOT think of the phrase in terms of Geography is a pretty safe bet.

Walter's World is a good channel, where the guy seems to live traveling with his family for decades. All of his videos are from the city he's talking about. And he keeps returning to the same place some 3, 4, 5 times... I'd trust his suggestions.

No it was not - some -6 years ago the beer was in this location about 4-5 EUR the most expensive in the city - same now - but surprised that it raised up to 11 GBP... But the price of the beer for normal people is really rising up every year since "end of covid" in the start of covid - normal beer price was 50 CZK/2EUR - 55CZK/2,2 EUR was too much - now the beer is usually around 70 CZK3/3 EUR- so the beer price in restaurants rised up since end of covid till today about 60% !!!!!!! for normal people... In this touristic locations the prices are way too higher - always the most expensive in the city.. hahahaha!!

Visited in 2007 and I did find a bar selling beer for about 70p. The tourist trap in the castle was £3.00. By my next visit, things had changed.

Umm, I've had plenty of locally produced Ales in Prague and other parts of Czech Republic. I know you're most famous for Pilsners but trust me, you're also making ales and they are pretty great stuff too.
I was in Prauge during christmas last year and the old town square was so packed all the time that i had to go around every time it took way too long trying to cross the square and getting pictures of the marian column was damm near impossible
