  • THE KIDNAP OF DENISE AMBER LEE
In January 2008, a young mother of 2 was abducted from her home in broad daylight.
Multiple witnesses would contact police during the following hours, whilst the victim would
do everything in her power to get help and save herself - including a 911 call to police on her
abductor’s phone. Tragically, it would not be enough to save her. This is what happens when
a predator targets a random stranger and multiple chances to save her are missed. This is
the murder of Denise Amber Lee

That call was mind-boggling to me. Even if she had had no training (and I can't believe that's not mandatory) she should have at least had half a brain cell to realize that this was a woman in immediate danger. Yeah, it's not her fault that Denise was kidnapped and brutalized, but she could have been the one to save her. Instead she died because of her complete incompetence.

I’m not sure why they don’t advertise this widely. They say ONLY do it when no other option is available to you. But if you’re unable to safely talk, you can text!

I remember this case from years ago and the utter disbelief and frustration when I learned of the details. I watched another documentary with Denise's father in it. In the documentary it was said that her father was aware that she was missing and he was searching for her as she was calling the police - I'm not sure he was aware of her call to 911 but it seems he was aware she had been kidnapped. I can only imagine the devastation that he must've felt when he learned that Denise called the police and then Jane Kowalski literally provided the exact location of where she and the perpetrator were - and nobody did anything with this information. He was a detective himself and his own child was failed miserably by the police (among others). Totally avoidable, unnecessary death, something that should've been stopped. How often do you get this much information on the crime in progress - especially from the actual victim. This girl has gone above and beyond using her wits to save herself in this tragic terrifying situation. She should be alive today

Denise sounds like a wonderful and beautiful person inside and out, she also seems incredibly bright leaving her own evidence and calling the police. The call was horrific and my eyes welled up. RIP Denise and my condolences to the family. ❤❤❤
Emma Thankyou for presenting this case so well. Also I didn’t have a notification for you today, I wandered around the house mumbling to myself, ‘but Emma’s consistent, every Wednesday and Sunday, where has she gone?’ I kept checking u tube staring sadly my at pre heated madras. 😮😊😂. Then Emma popped up at the last minute and my husky and I snuggled up on the sofa with lots of food and doggie treats. Xxx

Hi Emma, thank you for your continued hard work in researching not just this case but of hundreds more. Your analysis is second to none, tell the victims stories so throughly, eloquently and honestly, with an odd bit of well timed sarcasm. Thank you. Poor Denise, her life so cruelly taken, her boys, husband, family and friends must be heartbroken. As for the 911 operator, what’s her IQ score! As it must be around 84, if that. Constantly repeating “hello” when you can clearly get the gist that something is majorly wrong. She didn’t use any of the tactics used to calm a bad situation, it’s not hard, ask the victims name, tell her yours, reassure that your going to help the caller, this would have taken seconds, enough to calm the situation and build a small but vital rapport. As for King’s brother, wtf! Thankfully some people did try to help, sadly it was too late.

I just want to say I always think of clicking the 'like' button as my true appreciation of the hard emotional work you do on these cases, and my listening to them is my way of giving each victim back their voice through you, and also ensuring that through these videos, the families left behind grieving, now know their story is out there and giving them justice each time it's seen and told. I truly appreciate you for the empathy, the integrity, and indeed the wonderfully wicked British humour us UK gals all tend to have. Much love and warmest of hugs, keep on being you.❤My deepest warmest condolences to her family living with this tragic situation, it was so obvious from the start that no matter how scared she got, her family were a constant thought, and her thinking ahead and doing all in her power to get her own brand of justice showed the spirit that Denise had. ❤

This is so sad and frustrating 😔 Denise was incredibly brave and clever and Jayne went above and beyond to alert the police that something seemed terribly wrong and that there was a possible abduction. Some of these 911 dispatchers seem to be reading from a script and it is unforgiveable that in this particular case it was not followed up, taking away Denise's chance and hope of being saved. Absolutely heartbreaking that she lost her life to a monster leaving her beautiful family behind 💔 Thanks Emma for presenting the case so thoroughly and empathetically, as always 💛

  • @NelCapeTown
    @NelCapeTown Před rokem +3

I wrote a very frustrated comment about the first 911 operator. But the second interaction! The operator was excellent but then there was just no follow through even though everybody was "hollering" at the operator while she was on the call with Jane Kowalski. Typical all bark and zero intelligence from whoever was hollering at that operator. It's pitiful.
In South Africa the police force is inept and corrupt and totally unmotivated (although there are some magnificent and devoted exceptions who I imagine find themselves as frustrated as the operator who spoke to Jane Kowalski must feel.) I expected much more from law enforcement in "the land of the free."
I cannot help but put myself in poor Denise's mind during the nightmarish last hours of her life. It is truly worse than the most horrific nightmare. The classic nightmare where you try to scream but no sound comes out. Only - Denise did manage to make lots of noise but the police just messed up every single opportunity she managed to create to beg for help. I can't believe that nobody in the police department was sanctioned for gross dereliction of duties. And sent to the arse end of the country to stand guard on cold and windy nights for the rest of their lives.

I like true crime but recently I’ve even felt overwhelmed watching them. So I take my hat off to you researching these endlessly. Im a mother of two boys and this video really hit hard, I just wanted to get my boys from school and squeeze them. I suppose that is one good that comes from all this horror is it reminds you how lucky you are and to cherish it every day. Denise’s call for help, is beyond words, absolutely heartbreaking.
