0:05 The technician tried to drain the engine oil and none came out. He then removed the oil pan and the oil was sludge like the oil filter. The engine was flushed several times but the noise was still there. The customer declined further repairs/diagnosis. Most likely timing noise from a spun connecting rod bearing or timing chain.
0:20 The technician said the customer did not know what they were doing when they tried to wire this power bar in their truck. We did not get any more information on the exact cause of the fire.
0:28 The engine was initially low on engine oil as the car had an oil leak (which was found on a previous visit to the shop). The customer knew about it but did not keep an eye on it. It most likely made quite a bit of noise, especially with numerous holes in the block and oil pan.
0:46 A Dirty rear camera lens and rear bumper are what the customer saw. Easy fix!
1:01 Don't use a cargo net hook to tow your vehicle or another vehicle out of a ditch. Some tow hooks will be left-hand thread as well, so make sure to check that if you need to use it.
1:19 Certain Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrids have this recall.
1:39 Customer's vehicle is in very rough shape.
1:45 The technician had to fix the wires and also remove the spray foam that was behind the dashboard and in other spots.
1:59 No extra information.
2:08 Dodge Nitro.
2:21 The technician said the engine needed to be replaced. Was not replaced at his shop.
2:30 Electric power-assisted steering gear/rack caused the noise.
2:39 We've seen this a ton of times. If you're modifying your exhaust always look at where the tailpipe is pointing towards. As many customers had them pointing directly to their fuel tank, wires or other bad spots.
2:53 Not the best thing to use to winch a vehicle out, but it worked!

Hey @JustRolledIn - Happy New Year, buddy! 🎉 Thanks for another year of quality entertainment (plus it’s even better that I’ve never seen any of my cars have ever been submitted!! 😂😂😂 - I literally managed to set one on fire when leaving paint stripper to work and then starting to grind off a bolt…) 🤦♂️😂 keep up the great work!

That oil in that mercedes was ready to turn back into a dinosaur.
Oil doesn't come from dinosaurs. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@freedomrings1420 it comes from the carboniferous era. Waayy before dinosaurs lived here.

Everyone involved in the design and construction of that 98k mile engine deserves an award. Who knew the Germans could pull off that kind of reliability?
Old Mercedes diesels... those were bulletproof... and slow as heck :D
@@wntr2980 Nope, its the V6 Diesel (OM 642), and that is a piece of mercedes engineering.

@@tomr3422Most new cars today say 30K if you have a hybrid. Personally I would split the difference and go with 15K at most.
I now know that I don't have to worry about my Mercedes dying due to lack of oil changes for another 40k miles or so
😂
So you like playing roulette?
Save your money oil changes are overrated 😂
So the limit is 97,999 miles before oil changes on Mercedes 😂
As much as I love mercedes, this unfortunately isn't the case. The X class is a badge engineered Nissan which goes to show that as low as Nissan will go, they still have some good engines left in them

My two favorite kinds of story is "somehow drove it in like this" and "customer declined repairs"
My favorite are the “another shop did this shoddy work” videos. Like we are buying that story!! LOL
Don't forget "the mechanics didn't know how it came to this" ones
and my car needs towed when it breaks down! what kind of god are these people praying to cuz its the right one!
In recent years I've noticed that people seem to take better care of their phones than they do their cars. Phone is usually in a case and a screen protector installed. If it gets a crack in it, its immediately repaired or replaced. Their car is literally a road hazard on wheels, and they decline repairs
I imagine that in the case of the one with the rotted trailing arms that the customer declined repairs because they're going to scrap it. But yeah, you're right.
People take better care of their cellphones than they do their over - eating bodies. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@JCWren I appreciate your optimism.
Phones are cheaper to repair and replace than cars itself. Plus high end phones are more like a status symbol now than anything else because even for a decently large fraction of the price for a smartphone (Around $300) will be just as good, if not better than most high end ones on the market right now. I really look down on people who get brand new high end smartphones each year by a contract because they are putting themselves in debt more than just paying for the phone outright, then for the service, and keeping it long term for at least 4 - 5 years till it's gets damaged or outdated. Those people are not smart in my book.
"Nah, sorry, I cant fix my brakes to actually slow my car down, I need the money to replace my 1-year-old phone that has a chip in the corner!"
If you're going to repair your frame with wood make sure to use pressure treated lumber. Wood rot and termites may cause safety issues down the road.😁
Good safety tip!
Imagine having termite damage to a car haha
Is being sarcastic but there was once an actual car with a wooden frame

98k miles is actually impressive in this case. That’s longer than most domestic warranties lol
It's the channel record!
its more than most cars engine now adays survive
I had a car that ate oil nearly 1l/1000km.
So technically it had fresh oil all the time. Engine still seized.
(Unusually high oil consumption might had something to do with it)
@@XtreeM_FaiL I grew up driving clunkers because they were cheap. Recently I bought a newer vehicle since i can now afford it. I'm still shocked when i do my oil change that its full on oil. I got so used to cars burning oil in between each change.
Yeah- props to Merceds for making an engine that can take that amount of abuse. I wonder if he even ever added oil. Probably not. It probably just ran dry.
😂🤣😂 It always makes me laugh when someone says when there is a mechanical failure “I didn’t hear anything and the car was running fine”. I have severe industrial deafness and even with my hearing aids out I can still hear and feel when a vehicle isn’t running right. Great video thanks for sharing and a very happy New Year to everyone. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Gotta give credit to Kia that that thing kept running!
The thing is the sound/feel sometimes starts very small and gradually gets worse, an everyday driver might not notice it is so gradual, but an outside observer might catch on right away.
@@danthemankhan a lot of people today are so self absorbed they conveniently don’t hear things either or they just bullshit.
There's also the factors of, a) a lot of people probably have the radio going, possibly loudly, almost all the time, and b) someone not knowledgeable about cars may not actually know what sorts of sounds are bad sounds and may just think that's a noise a car makes. Especially if it happens gradually.
C'mon, I used to diagnose 7.3 Power stroke automatic transmission noises as they say at idle at intersections. And disconnected injector harnesses on those from 50 feet away. It's customers that don't care anymore that are the source of these issues. 😢😂!
"Cargo net hook is not meant for towing." Won't be long until we start seeing stickers like this.
Wouldn't surprise me 😂
All while manufacturers continue to make their cargo net hooks look even more "fake sturdy". In reality, they break or come loose if you try to secure a small bag of cotton wool with them.
That's how every other warning got there...Any time you see one just know that it's because someone at some point thought "Hey this looks like a good idea.".
They need to start doing a competency test to be able to buy spray foam. There's always 1 guy that uses it like Red's Hot sauce. "Puts that shit on everything". 😂
😂😂
My father comes to mind.
lol. Reds hot sauce. haha
Burnt Harold's taste buds right off.
I do like a bit of the ol Red-Green show.
And to add to what you have said H8er-Maker; My own father uses Silastic on anything and everything.
He thinks it's the best "Glue" there is and "it stays flexible" so its better than other glue.
I swear he'd smear it on toast.
How about a competency test to own and operate a motor vehicle?
Wait, wait, wait. A Police vehicle make "Pig" noises?!
Wow, even their own cars is calling them pigs. LOL 🤣
Even funnier that a cop put on the complaint form stating that the car "squeals like a pig".
Ill never forget the one mechanic who had a vechicle like that rusted out one and when the customer declined all repairs, he called the police for the car being unsafe 💪
The ignorance of most people who drive is staggering!
automotive mechanics should be mandated reporters now!

My father was an Army veteran. He used to see a psychiatrist for PTSD. One day Doc got a brand new Mercedes, and was bragging about it. One of the chief points that convinced Doc to buy it was that it had 100k oil life. I didn't know much about Mercedes, but I told him that 100k seemed a bit excessive, but he was adamant that he was right. First clip here with the Mercedes reminded me about it.
Surely they meant gear oil or something, and the doctor misunderstood.
It's once every 10k miles, not 100k miles.
@@rjmariYes or maybe spark plug life? I like yours better though.
I bet you that Doc cheated his way through medical school.
He's not wrong, is he? I mean, that customer got his to last 98k without changing the oil.
98K, damn if that engine was maintained well, it might have lasted a million miles.
This isn't W123 diesel :D But You might be right with this statement.
@@mmllmmll22 The OM617 engine with the right oil will happily see 500,000 miles without failure on a regular basis.
Modern Merc engines are garbage BTW. Designed to fail best describes them
I sure wish we had the video of the people trying to pull their vehicle out of the ditch by the battery hold down and the other one by the where the cargo net attaches. Or even just the audio.
Id love to see that lol
Well I do remember seeing a video of someone attempting that but instead attaching the cable to the suspension spring
Because when you're trying to violently jank around several tons of metal, you absolutely want 40 pounds of high-tension springs to be involved too
You can in theory lift most cars based on the tensile strength of a good quality 14mm bolt with a fair safety margin.
Yeild strength is around 4 tons (depending on the bolt)
So glad there are mandatory safety inspections where I live.
my country has yearly MOT inspections on non-SORNed vehicles.
Population management 😂😂
I bet some of these cars are in those states
My state has them, too. But that doesn't stop shady mechanics from taking an extra $20 to slap a sticker on it. If it is less than 25 years old, it gets plugged into the ODB2 and as long as it doesn't have any codes, they'll pass it. Older cars just get safety inspections, so again, it's nothing an extra 20 won't fix. I used to take one of my cars to one of those mechanics because of a crack in the windshield and I didn't have the money to replace it at the time (teenager working for minimum wage). It also had an exhaust leak. This was back in the Dyno days and they put another car on the Dyno and printed up a sticker for $20. He did have some scruples, though. If the car couldn't pass a safety inspection, otherwise (other than a cracked windshield), he wouldn't pass it.
I'm so glad that in Florida we don't have them. Just another way for the mechanic shops to rip you off for things that you don't need.
157 000 kms and never had the oil changed. My Tundra has 51 000 kms and am on my 4th oil change. You cant imagine how well an engine runs with frequent oil and filter changes. Anyone who wonders how bad an engine can look...watch I DO CARS. Eric would love this engine...he loves inspection ports, piston mcnuggets and malice in the combustion palace.
That and the kia. How many rods were thrown on that one?
@ 50000km,I've changed the transmission oil once. In my Kona EV.
all he'll find is forbidden glitter, welded rod bearings, varnish everywhere, loose chains, grooves in water pump, and most definitely spark plug that gapped themselves
@zygmuntthecacaokakistocrat6589 Sure, but if you scratch the battery pack then the entire car is a write-off.
@@zygmuntthecacaokakistocrat6589why does an EV have a gearbox?
These just keep getting better and better. Thanks!
Glad to hear that. Thanks!
If I was a car company I would just play this clip of the car with 98,000 miles and no oil change as a commercial.
With that real fine print at the bottom, “trained professionals do not do this at home.”
Yeah- props to Merceds for making an engine that can take that amount of abuse. I wonder if he even ever added oil. Probably not. It probably just ran dry. This makes me want to buy a Mercedes. Too bad we don't get the X-class pickup here- it looks cool! Comes with 4 engines though, so I'd like to know which one this is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_X-Class
@@blurglide Oil was definitely added, that's why there was so much sludge. I once saw some V6 out of a minivan (don't remember anymore which one) where the dude pulled the valve cover off and it was just a block of sludge in the shape of the valve cover...engine had 120k miles on it. Owner just kept adding oil but never changed it. I was there with a friend and we were picking up a motor for his Jeep CJ that the Shop had just rebuilt and they were showing us that engine.

2:30 drive long enough; your car or truck might sound like you, lol
I am often amazed that some car owners never change their engine oil, instead the drive the car till the engine is ruined. Also it is amazing to see how many unsafe and dangerous vehicles are on the road.
And then they whine and cry about how they can't get it fixed under warranty.
Some people just use things until they break.
I know that machines need preventative maintenance, but then I don't even think about maintaining, say, the plumbing at home. At least not until something breaks and then the plumber asks when the drain was last cleaned or comments that the faucet must have been leaking for a long time and then I'm like "yeah but it didn't bother me enough to deal with it."
As a foemer tech I have driven rigged stuff in my vehicles and buddies crap boxes. But costumers...... eek. They scare us
I can never figure out how someone that dumb has the money to buy a new car in the first place...
Whenever I hear "Modern cars are just crud thats built for planned obsolescence, my neighbours engine blew at 90k miles..." I just think of stuff I see on this channel. Sure, there may well be a point, but I would also wager customers on average take worse care of their cars then ever before in history...
Car manufacturers know this so they build that planned obsolescence into those areas people ignore. There’s plenty of “shit” cars that last forever because the owner actually takes care of it
@@TurdJesusalmost any car would live long if taken care of, not pushing it when cold etc. But sometimes bad luck strikes at engineering facility. Like early THP (BMW 1.6Turbo / Peugeot 1.6Turbo) engines.
Modern cars are far more reliable and rust less. But they DO cost more to fix when something breaks.
But yes, the OWNERS are more negligent than ever.
@@Runco990 this right here........
Older cars often needed major repairs at 50K miles. One big reason people are more lax on maintenance than before is because they can get away with it a lot more than in the past.

When those mechanics hear "I decline this much needed repair even if I became a risk to every other person on the street" ..... dont they have any chance to take those cars out?
If it's not road worthy like a majority of clips, they declined repairs.
You would think they would be giving MDOT a call to report a dangerous vehicle.
I know some shops can hold a vehicle if it's not safe to be on the road and will contact their local PD and inform them of the circumstances leading to them holding the vehicle.
In Australia they can 'white slip' your car. Any qualified mechanic can revoke your registration. I've had it threatened on me once, but I was calling them out as making up stuff so they could charge me for repairs. So, its probably not actually enacted too much, unless they are ready for a fight, or its so obvious that they know they will win any dispute.
In Washington State, all you can do is make them tow it away. Done that a few times. And our road deicer isn't that bad, usually 😅. It's the broken suspension parts or total brake system mess that gets that call. Like backwards pads, rotor ground off the hat, etc etc.
I think many if these clips are from US states that don't have mandatory safety inspections. (We don't have federal regs for owners, only manufacturers.)
If the government doesn't care to require that vehicles be safe, there might not be much a shop can do.
@@erikwilliam1254 MDOT is whatever state you are in...but anyway not every state has the same laws as your so no shops just can't hold cars hostage. That's why they put "customer declined repairs" which absolves them of guilt should the owner then go out and die or kills others with their known dangerous vehicle.
When I was a kid and first heard about engines I thought a little bit of dust would take them out and you'd be stuck in the middle of nowhere but here people happily keep on driving with a half molten engine block with multiple holes and missing pistons...
When spray foam first came out mid 80s….my buddy had a 68 Chevy 3/4 ton that was in no way going to pass inspection…he pumped that great stuff into every cavity and it bonded the doors solid, no windows rolling down, body panels bulging, and one door could not be opened period!

Which granted isn't *that* old but I'd imagine a few years of heat-cycling and degredation + 100,000 miles is worse than just testing new oil to 100,000 miles.

Did he say they winched the car out with the battery hold down? 😮😂
Fun fact:
The humble 14mm bolt typically has a yield strength of around 4 tons.
Meaning you can theoretically lift most cars on 1 x 14mm bolt.
@@sahhull You absolutely can not. The bolt might hold the weight, but whatever it's screwed into won't.
@@bradallen8909 I was only talking about the actual bolt.
Not whatever it's connected to.
A couple of large washers would quickly solve that issue.
The "squeeling pig" sounded way more like a kid screaming in terror in the far distance!
I never get tired of this.... 🤣
How can there still be anyone on the planet that does not know you must change oil every 3-5,000 miles? Earns enough to afford a Mercedes, but not enough sense to get out of the rain.
To be fair, I don't know that every vehicle has a 3-5,000 mile oil change interval. I go by what the manufacturer recommends.
For my old car it was every 3,000 miles. For my new Honda, it's about 10,000 miles.
Outside of the US, oil change intervals are mostly 12,500 miles or more. Some vehicles have oil change intervals of 20,000 miles.
@@chrispop99 Same everywhere, I think. Some people ignore manufacturer recommendations, that's all. There are probably such people where you live too. 😀
@@j_taylor For sure!
That's been the case for well over thirty years. My Renault is twenty years old and the recommended interval is 18k miles. It's done well over 200,000 miles and uses very little oil between services. To my mind anyone changing a modern oil every 3000 miles is just wasting money, unless perhaps they live in an extreme climate with high levels of silicate dust or similar.
So I shouldn't use a surge safe power strip on my harness?
That rig up was hilarious! 😂😂😂
Happy New Year to JRI and everyone else!
Thanks! Happy New Year to you as well.
The police vehicle sounding like a pig had spit my coffee out in laughter. A pig vehicle sounds just like one. 😂😂
C'mon now.
'Police vehicle' brought in because it was sounding like a squealing "pig" . 😂
Car was just trying to talk to the cop in their own language.
sounds like a feature, not a fault!
@@leftyo9589 I'd like to reprogram the siren sounds. Instead of the yelp, it would the squeal a gutted pig. 🤣
I love police, but the squealin pig cop car is pretty funny.
It's 2024 and I'm ready for another year of stupid customers! Bring it on! Let's go! 😂🤣
This was the most hilarious one yet! 🤣 😂
This content was great fun for a couple of years !!! But, now I’m worried about my family and myself being on the same highways with these Idiots 🤪
When you get behind the vehicle with the "that was me on JRI !" Bumpersticker....
@@vs-ww7cb Sounds like a great merch idea for JRI!
Way more drunk idiots, idiots on their phone, and idiots just driving badly compared to idiots driving dangerous vehicles.
I am curious if the content provider or someone else can answer this. A lot of the clips in just rolled in involved really dumb car owners. My question is, of all the car owners who bring their vehicles in for maintenance or repair, what percentage do such stupid stuff?
I doubt it's more than 1% (probably way less), just seems way higher from these videos because no one records and sends in clips about perfectly maintained cars
Also people who don't maintain their vehicles obviously don't bring in them in until they die, lowering the percentage even further
JRI, picks and uses found/submitted clips for their feed for the entertainment.(not all are from the US) , I would guess probably in 2024 its higher than 10-15%ish. I find the videos and comments to be hillarious remember some are trying to scrape by in life . In my honest exp, this is a 10% or under scenario.
Probably 5 percent or less. It's just some of these human fails are outstanding to say the least! Some of the rusted frame/unibody ones are customers who didn't even know. "I have this clunk" is how the conversation starts...
@@jondahl3173 I've been out of the horse race for several years now, I think the reliance on automatic (cellphone google/youtube fix anything). Has definitely become an issue in past decade. I smell what you're steppin in 😉
Every time I watch these clips, a chill runs down my spime. I try not to think of them whilst I am driving.
98K on an oil change? I think they could have made it to 100K!🤣 Way to go!💪👍👍
I like the police vehicle that sounds like a squealing pig 😂 fitting
You must be a Democrat cheerleader.
Obligatory comment about how THESE idiots own (and presumably can legally drive) multi-ton hunks of steel and pointy bits around YOU.
The classics at the end are always my favorite part. But these were the best yet 🔥
What an amazing shop at the end! Would love to explore that. How were those miniature truck tractors made I wonder.
Cop car that sounds like a pig, huh?
🐷
In Maine about 20 years ago, hot rodders found a new sleeper; Volvo 240 sedans and wagons in great shape with junk engines. Yuppies never had their oil changed. A small block chevy under the hood sure was fun- and the cops never noticed the stodgy old Volvo...
Those 4 banger Volvo engines are hard to kill! It takes another level of stupid...that we see so often!
The police having to drive that car of theirs must have been something extra special.
I love then people claim they didn't hear an noises from the engine. At the first hint of a problem, they just turn up the radio. Basically the audible equivalent of an ostrich sticking its head in the sand.
One of my favorite YT channels! I love the trucks at the end, it would be fun to drive one of those around..
I learnt from my tech teacher by observing with what happens when you use an AC switch on a DC circuit. The DC electric arc won't stop when switching!
Cop says: The car sounds like a pig squealing.
Mechanic thinks to himself: you sure its the car. Lol
the collection at the end is fire!
