- This is a very special before and after of a 70 year old vintage Effanbee Honey Doll. She is a sweet little doll with her original dress.
The little red low heat iron was purchased at Jo Ann Fabrics.
Taffeta is the fabric. Super job. I enjoyed it. I used to do this, and enjoyed it very much. I still have about 25 dolls, that I never got to. I just love the hard plastic mid 50s dolls. I have so many of them.

I have about 12 more dolls that I haven’t helped yet. It takes me along time to finish a doll completely because I have health issues. I have to say that it’s my favorite thing to do. I’m so grateful that I still can do it even though I am slow😉. I have worked on many different types of dolls over the last 50+ years. This is just my personal opinion but my favorite doll’s hands down are the hard plastic dolls . I have a few myself and they are not all Toni’s , but the Toni is my favorite ❤️

I really enjoyed your video. I loved the tip about the tissue in the puffed sleeves! It is such a beautiful dress. She turned out just lovely🥰
I am so happy so you enjoyed the video. Yes, putting tissue in the sleeves helps in the ironing process. Also, I sometimes will put a small amount of tissue in the sleeves after I put it on the doll to keep them puffed. Thank you for the support!

I like the music you use when taking out the curlers or during other speeded-up parts of the video. It would be good to mention at certain action parts that you have a step-by-step video for restringing, for washing clothes, and for washing and setting the hair.

thank you for your comment. I will try to explain why. we have done many tutorials on how to restore hard plastic plus other types of dolls from cleaning to restring and more. if we covered all the aspects of a dolls complete restoration in every video then the videos would be extremely long. All our earlier videos covered different parts in detail on the step by step process of completely restoring a doll. If you look back at the other videos you will find a tutorial on how to restring a hard plastic doll and other dolls strung similarly. I hope this helps.🌺
Maybe the fabric is a satin looking rayon? I have wondered about using oxyclean so thanks for demo. I found a rusty clip like that but I thought it was a staple l didn't know it might have had a design on it but it's good to know for future reference and how it clips. I have ripped some stuff from squeezing. Towel idea helps and the low iron and the tissue in sleeves. Have to look up that kind of hair.
I am so happy you found my video helpful. Thank you for the suggestion about the fabric, I haven’t done any research on it yet but I will look into it. Dynes is a type of Nylon hair. The Ideal Toni doll is the most well known to have Nylon hair. They were made from 1949 to 1956, the purpose was for little girls to give their dolls”perms” like their mothers got. Of course the perms for their dolls were just sugar water. They could wash, set and curl the hair over and over. Other types of hair like Saran, mohair, caracule and such would not hold up as well being washed and rewashed . Thank you for the support!

She looks fabulous! Thank you! I have one question though- why did you decide not to reuse the barrettes? Are they difficult to reinstall? I just love what you did with her. She looks so clean and refreshed now.
I am so happy you enjoyed the video. I do hope your mom was able to see the video and how her little friend looks after her spa day. I am going to use the barrettes, but they are quite fragile and I have something coming in the mail that I would like to try for cleaning the rust of them. I have had these type of barrettes on some Toni and Sara Ann dolls. While trying to repair one it broke because it was almost rusted through. I do not want that to happen to these so I will have do a little experimenting on some other rusty thing with my new cleaner to see if it will be gentle enough. I couldn’t show everything in the video as I had a deadline to post it and I was a day late as it was. I had a couple bad days this week and that is why the video was late. Perhaps I will do a short video on restoring the barrettes after I find the best way to clean without harming them. Wow doll looks wonderful! And the clothes too! When I go to doll shows I always hit the $1 boxes and end up getting lots of vintage dresses that need TLC. I gotta get one of those small irons! The detail and craftmanship is sometimes really nice and fragile, nothing like today. I might have missed it but what kind of soaps and conditioners do you use for hair and clothes. Maybe do a video on dos and don'ts on caring for vintage items. Were you able to restore the original clips?
I don’t live in an area where they have doll shows, but I wish I could see one of those $1 bins! My daughter and I would be in heaven. I have a tutorial just on washing a dolls hair. In it I use a gentle shampoo to wash it, and I use Downey Free and Gentle laundry softener diluted with a little water as a conditioner on her hair, then I rinse it off. With clothes it depends on how fragile the fabric is. If there are stains and the piece isn’t too fragile I let it soak in Oxyclean for a short time then I use a mild soap like All Free Clear laundry soap and I use Downey Free and Gentle again on the fabric. I am going to do a tutorial on restoring a vintage dress in the future. I am going to restore the clips but I have a new product coming to do so that I am going to try on something else before I use it on these clips. I have found these type of clips on other dolls and lost one because it was rusted through. I want to be very careful so not in to injure them. Thank you for the feedback.
Her clothes look like they could be Rayon taffeta it was a popular fabric for "fancy doll clothes," lol

These dolls look the ones I had in 1950’s- I got it in Ocean City, Bew Jersey and was made in Reading, Pennsylvania- I LOVED my doll- my Aunt Marian knitted a sweater and shirt for this- I forget the name but was very popular in my time as a kid. . Roller skates too-

@sandramyer7081 Mary hoyer Dolls, I think they were called sculpted by Bernard Lipfert they had a catalog you could order from & had different sculpts you choose from like Louise, Connie, Janette and a few others. I've always loved composition dolls, especially from the 50s their clothing is so detailed and nice, but unfortunately, they are hard to find in good condition & my grandma didn't save hers, lol but you can always tell those dolls were well loved.

New subscriber here. I work on 1960-1970 baby dolls. I know you mentioned mold occurring dolls but I am scared to try to disassemble large walker dolls to check. I know many crack. Any advice?
I wish I had better news for you but the mechanism inside a walker is very difficult to repair or even clean. I have worked on walkers from the neck up and restrung arms. I have researched the bodies walking mechanism and found out from many others that restore dolls that the only way to get to that mechanism is to cut both sides of the doll from arm to leg to expose the mechanism to repair or clean them. Then glue the doll back together which is no small effort. I have some walkers I have repaired, one wit a catastrophic crack from the base of her head to her crown. It was a success but it took both my husband and myself to accomplish it. On our other walkers we leave well enough alone because it it so easy to cause more damage to try to repair them.. Eyes get easily out of place and the mechanism can stop working with little cause. I have learned to accept my walkers as they are if they do not stink. Because one of my walkers that had a stuck head was damaged while attempting to fix her. Good luck, I wish I better advice.

How can I clean my saucy walkers glued on wig?
The Ideal Saucy Walker was meant to have her hair washed and curled. Anything is possible due to it’s age, you could try getting a small patch of her wig wet and see what happens. Even if the wig is loose it can be glued back on. Let me know if I can help.🥰

First I would like to thank you very much for your comment. Since we only do these video’s because we were asked to many times. comments are important because doing this kind of thing isn’t in our comfort zone. I the mother went back to look at the introduction on the video you watched. I could see that it was possible for someone to think it could have been an augment. But it was two everyday people trying to make and intro a bit interesting who were not at all experienced at it at all. That was a very early video and I hope we have improved our intro since then. in fact many people say that’s their favorite part. I’m sorry that it wasn’t polished and they probably still aren’t since we don’t prepare them it’s just of the cuff so to speak. I can understand just how you feel and if it was me I would fast forward though it and only watch the parts your interested in. I love the ability to be able to to that. In fact I do it all the time. Your comment really was appreciated thanks again.🥰
I thought only Toni doll hair could be washed.
The Toni doll with her nylon hair was made specifically for washing, curling, and styling it over and over. But you can wash most doll wigs. They just don’t fair as well having it done over and over. The only wig I do not recommend washing is a mohair wig. I am going to do a tutorial on a Vintage 1934 Shirley Temple doll with a mohair wig soon. Also, in the future I am going to do a tutorial on Saran and caracule wigs. The main thing to remember is to be gentle as these wigs are old and delicate.
