    One of the most +EV things about playing poker for me was meeting folks like you which then got me following "the seen and the unseen" and its superb guest list and "everything is everything" and Ajay Shah!

      I just wanted to do foundational principles. There are better places to go to if you want to actually learn poker!

    great discussion! It has been my addiction now to listen to both of you..😊
    you must be aware about "Thinking in Bets" by Annie Duke..
    One quote I remember from Nassim Taleb that is relevant to Ajay sir's point is "We can't blow up, we can only bleed to slow death"..

    This entire series of episodes is so exciting, and thank you both for pushing the limits of our knowledge. I have some suggestions for future episodes (in fact, it will be great to know your detailed views on the following) -
    1. Energy crisis and climate change - I am sure you will combine this with geopolitics.
    2. The constitution of India - there have been some comments here and there, but it would be great if there was an entire episode on your views on whether the constitution is as 'transformative' as it is often claimed to be.
    3. You have spoken about the evolution of markets and firms - it would be great if some insights were shared on the evolution of the Indian State and its many institutions, including the SPVs, etc. And some critical insights on public-private partnerships (when they fail or succeed).
    4. I loved the Bruce Springsteen episode. We need more music in our lives and also in 'E is E'. Please consider talking more about music and popular culture.

    Very interesting episode! Thank you Mr. Varma and Dr. Shah for a short but lovely exchange. Wishing this podcast all the success!
    (I wonder if starting a podcast in a short-form heavy market was a +EV decision or do the creators recognise their own skill at curating genuinely engaging conversations! 😅)

    I don't believe I understand why the probability is 38%, that implies that there are 24-25 cards remaining in the deck after the flop.
    But in the given table, we will have 21 cards dealt at the end of flop => 31 cards remaining, even with the burn(ing) of cards, we'd have 29 remaining correct?
    I am not sure if that computes to 38%, can someone please help with the math?
    I am getting 9%, also I studied probability ages ago, so I am definitely missing something :(

    • @amitvarma
      @amitvarma  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I just posted a reply with a link to a simulator, but it seems YT didn't like that link, lol, so here goes again.
      There are 45 unknown cards left in the deck -- the burn cards and folded hands are unknown, so that's 52 minus the 7 we know -- and of those 45, there are nine hearts that will give us a nut flush. The chance of your winning the hand by hitting one of them in the two cards yet to come are indeed 38%. (It would be around 40%, but the AA will turn into a full house 1.82% of the time making flushes redundant.) Any of the simulators/odds calculators online will show you this, so don't take my word for it!
