Very nice to finally hear your voice. Your videos are a great way to see Norway which I think is the most under-appreciated country in the world. My great-grandfather emigrated from the Modum area in the late 1800s to farm in the US.

I very much enjoy your videos. Keep them coming! I’ve been fascinated with railroading for all my life, mostly because my grandfather was a longtime railroader. He went to work for the Louisville & Nashville, now part of CSX, in 1908 at 15 years old. His first job was as a caller. Since most folks didn’t have telephones then, when they needed crew from the extra board, they sent a guy out on a bicycle to knock on their door. When he was old enough he moved to a fireman job and eventually to engineer. He retired in 1959 with 51 years of service.
My railroading has mostly been with HO models. But for 8 years of summer weekends, I got to operate a 15” gauge coal fired steam locomotive in a park. The two greatest sounds in the world together, a steam whistle and children’s laughter!
Thanks to your videos my wife and I are going to spend Christmas 2025 in Norway and ride the Bergman line. Thank you for all you do.
The discussion about stowaways reminded me about the time I was in the Navy visiting the port of Stavanger. A friend went ashore, got drunk, stumbled into a freight carriage, and got locked in for several days until the train reached Oslo. It was very cold and he was really lucky to survive.
Holy cow! You know there is a story of an American marine that got drunk and climbed a class 72 in Stavanger. He sadly got fried when he climbed on top of the train. :(

i just discovered these videos and it's very interesting! I'm a retired airline pilot, now working for the FAA and I find some similarities. One of my best childhood experiences is when we took a train from Oslo in 1956 ( I was around six or seven yrs old) and we pulled into Kristiansand, my first visit from the US. The snow was falling gently and everything was so quiet and beautiful. That was the first and only long haul train ride I was ever on. I've been to Norway many times since but one of these days I want to use rail instead of driving ( all the speeding tickets, LOL)

Tram to train is a big step up in weight and size. Hope you get to try that TGV, or maybe an iron ore train in the north. Even slower but 8000 tones going downhill to Narvik might be exciting 🙂

Love your video's!!! When I was a kid I wanted to become a train engineer but the drop in the use of railroad in my area had me wondering if I would have been able to make a career out of it. Wish I had stayed with it. Are all your trains run off the electric grid or do you have any diesel power?

Do you take drivers in training along on trips? Did you have ride alongs during your training?
Have you ever suddenly come upon people inside tunnels?
Also seems like a lot of snow and ice inside sheds made of wood. Are there that many gaps in the walls or is the snow sucked into the sheds by trains or both?
And especially. Do you ever find yourself mesmerized and losing perspective with blowing snow and passing poles and walls inside tunnels? I find myself almost hallucinating watching some parts of your videos. The onrushing scenery particularly when only lit by headlamp is very disorienting sometimes.
PS: I thought the name Hindu Cowgirl was the most brilliant and clever name on CZcams. And your logo is fantastic. Bravo!
I just started watching this video. When you -- RCG -- asked someone about this video scaring their cat, it reminded me of my second cat, an orange {ginger} tabby I named _"Jaws."_ I named him that when he was a kitten because he would gently nibble on my fingers when he wanted something to eat.
YEARS LATER when _"Shark Week"_ was playing on cable television, whenever a shark was displayed on the TV screen _Jaws_ {my cat} would just *STARE* at the TV. Really...😊

Good luck with the new job and hours. From someone who had to work 11 pm to 11 am, sleeping during the day is no fun. I also don't like waking up before about 6 am.

I had a strange dream about being a train driver. Well it wasn't that strange apart from the fact I am 40 yo who never had any interest in trains at all. It got me curious tho about the job and if it would be a relaxing thing to do. Thanks for the video, you have a beautiful voice so relaxing to listen to, keep up the great content x

Thank you for answering my questions. I am amazed at the landscape of Norway. One more question- do you ever run multiple unit consists? Over here in the states, it’s not uncommon to have 4-5 locomotives, and 10,000 plus tons trailing on the drawbar.
On heavier trains we can run two locos in multiple, yes. :) happens all the time

1:38:27 well you recognizing an issue there which went rampant in many countries. Like in mine in Austria. Law is not the reality although we add laws and bureaucracy on a ridiculous speed. It whether adds efficiency nor safety, actually it makes things even more complicated as they are and in some parts even simply imossible!

FYI, it's not live... If you read the description you will get to know that it is not possible to live stream because of the lack of reception. I had t realized that the rails themselves complete the circuit for your trains. Made me wonder if there was a way create a small resistance in the rails to keep them just above freezing so no snow would ever accumulate.
The train weighs so much that its just plow right through. US EMD SW1200 is 120 some tons. GE lcomotives are maybe over 200+

so i'm a student pilot and I got a question while watching this... do you guys also have some kind of "auto-pilot"? for either speed, or literally full control of the train? if yes, then are routes also programmed into a computer that the train follows?
Closest thing to autopilot is cruise control.
So nothing to manage speed reductions or increases automatically.
No vertical navigation for obvious reasons, hehehe
Is it possible for so much snow to cover the track that it would compress under the wheels enough to raise the wheel enough to derail? Or does the “plow” section on the front keep that from happening?
Absolutely, but it really depends on the type of snow. One might think that snow is snow, but it really isn't. The type of snow is determined by so many factors.
Dense snow formed by drifts can become like "concrete" and lift trains off the track. There are some instances where this has happened, thankfully no one hurt or injured. And most thankfully, this does not happen often due to the awesome work the people on the snow readiness team does.
Because of your channel I'm learning Norwegian on duolingo as I watch this. Seems similar enough to English (at least at the start) that you can often work it out

I had a friend in Brisbane Australia who worked freight trains but all he wanted to do was become a passenger train driver. So opposite to you. I believe the passenger train drivers earned more money. In the end I believe you should do what you love!

I think I spotted two times where you didn’t sound your horn at diamond signs with the horizontal bars. Just before Dale at about the 3 hour mark and again a minute or two later. There must be a reason. I’ve never seen you make a mistake.
Also, what is in the small reddish sheds that are next to the tracks at intervals?
+ = Must sound the horn between 6am - 10pm. With other words, bo need to sound the horn between 10pm and 6am, unless needed

Lot of people think the train can swerve also to avoid cars or trucks stuck on the track
In another video can you explain some of the track side signs? Also I think I have figured out the sign to sound the horn but other times you sound the horn for no obvious reason. BTW I visited Bodo way back in ~1979 for a couple of weeks but was working (and winter) so not much time to enjoy your beautiful country.

When you learninmg to drive a Train, you normaly are able to moving after 6 month. The next 9 month you are learning the law ond orders, what your right reaction in different situation. The laws are dificulter as moving a train.

According to W'pedia, the Bombardier firm is no longer making locos. They seem to concentrate on airplanes, now.
