They are a Korean indie rock band that's been recently gaining more (well-deserved) recognition, and they're closing out the US/Canada leg of their tour soon - I'd recommend "Cure," "Alive," "Wonder," "Beauty and the Beast," "She's in the Rain," and "Sorry." Woosung is the lead singer, and the deliberate crack/squeak on certain notes that you pointed out is his trademark; the other main singer is Dojoon whose tone provides a textural contrast to Woosung's.
I actually discovered Woosung because he collabed with Suga aka August D from BTS ! The Song is called Snooze and his vocals blew me away! I had to find him and I’m so glad I Did!!!

I thank Suga for introducing me to The Rose. Woosung, one of the lead vocalists, was featured on Suga/Agust D's song, "Snooze". I loved Woosung's voice, so I started checking out The Rose. Like you, I love that kind of indie rock.
Their early busking videos are great! Woosung (Sammy) is one of the best singers in Korea and widely recognized as an amazing voice. They tour all over the US!
The Rose is just amazing! This song is off their latest album "Dual" released 22 Sep 2023 and The Rose was #1 on the Billboard Emerging Acts Chart the week after it came out. They really are up and coming. "Back To Me" was the 1st song I heard by them, but even then I was a bit sceptical as to whether I might like them or not, 'cos I'm not into one-hit wonders. (But then again, I'm also the kind of person who took 14 months to get hooked on BTS and finally became ARMY when "I Need U" came out). The song that really got me into The Rose was actually "Alive". At the end of the "Back To Me" video, the band appears in black n white, that actually leads into the "Alive" music video next. You ought to see that one, it blew me away more than "Back To Me", and by the time they released "You're Beautiful" after that, I knew I was firmly a Black Rose (their fandom name).
As a pop rock fan, “Strangers” was the song (from a Kdrama OST) that made me a lifelong fan of The Rose. And if I could only pick one of their songs to listen to for the rest of my life, it’ll be “Time”.
The Rose is the best Indie Rock band that came out of Korea and they sound absolutely amazing at the concert. I would love to hear this song at the concert as well. It would be 🔥🔥🔥
I saw The Rose live last month in Salt Lake. But they performed at The District, which is over at The Gateway. They said that we were the loudest crowd they had had so far and promised to come back, so maybe I will see you at a future concert. And maybe next time they come they will be big enough to play USANA Amphitheater. I think they are just wrapping up their tour of the U.S. and Canada. But I’ve been a fan ever since they dropped the song She’s in the Rain in 2018 or 2019. Back to Me is a little more fast paced but what really made them famous are their Rock Ballads. One of their lead singers, Woosung also has some really cool solo music. He grew up in California and has American Citizenship and so didn’t go into the military when the rest of the band had to do their mandatory service and put out a couple of solo albums while they were gone.
If you listened to AgustD's Snooze, then you've at least heard Woosung, the lead singer. A friend and I were talking about how hard it is for Asian Americans to make it in the US market-we quickly came up with 14-15 Korean-Americans who've gone back to Korea to become performers. It sometimes feels like we write off so much talent in this country-the Rose is touring the US and Canada right now and selling out shows, so why couldn’t Sammy Kim get recognized for his amazing voice before he went to Korea to become Kim Woosung?
If you like The Rose, You may want to jump over to Japan as well and look into One Ok Rock!!! I love their song We Are!!! They are a Japanese Band and are very good as well.
I saw them live for the second time 2 days ago and can confirm, it's awesome to scream their songs with an entire crowd (especially this one)! Literally an out of body experience

I was introduced to them from a friend about 6 months ago and Woosung (lead vocal) did a song with Suga from BTS, you will not be disappointed with any of their songs, but "Sorry" is a definite to listen or react too. They are a great band, especially live. Woosung has an amazing voice. I would love to see how you react to another amazing voice, Taka from One Ok Rock. I would recommend the live versions of Take What You Want, or We Are.

As someone who just saw them live - I can tell that they do NOT disappoint as a live band and you will enjoy the rest of their songs!!! Too bad that you are just aware of them now as they are on a US Tour - not sure where you are but the last date is at the Forum in LA Also - so you know one of the members was born/grew up in Thousand Oaks CA - WooSung (English name: Sammy) and while the other 3 members were serving in the South Korea military - WooSung put out a solo album & opened for EpikHigh during their USA tour in 2022
YES. Just discovered them a few months ago. My girls had been listening to them for a couple of years. The concert last week was AWESOME and even though I'm too old to be standing-room-only, I was in the crowd & jumping when told to jump! They have a wonderful blend of soulful and rock songs. Dual album is all English which was cool but it doesn't matter when you've got a concert hall who suddenly knows or fakes Korean at the top of their lungs.
The Rose are in a word FAB. You could see it on your faces how much you liked them. I am going to do something I hate others doing and that is recommending other groups when you are first reacting to another group. Yes you have to check out more of The Rose, but when you say you didn't this type of music existed in Korea then you really need to check out FT Island and defo N Flying. Absolutely love this band. I am not a young kid but every song this band does just hits me so well. I feel like a kid. They are fun and they give a lot of access to themselves so you get to feel a lot of what they are about. I even went to see them in NYC last month. Woo Sung has a lot of his own music out that is great too. The band had been on a break recently so the Korean members could do their military service. Woo Sung is from the LA area so eh didn’t have to serve and had some time on his own. Check out some of his (Phase Me). Love this band!
A lot of ARMY just discovered The Rose because Woosung (lead singer with the raspy voice) was featured on August D's song "Snooze," from his album D-Day (along with Ryuichi Sakamoto). That song is AMAZING. I found The Rose on Tik Tok a bit after I found BTS, but they were on hiatus then for the military service of the three Korean members (Woosung is Korean American). The Rose have a really interesting story, not the least of which is suing their label and winning and then going independent.
Glad you liked this.. check out their other stuff they cover a wide range of genres. They are definitely different than what you expect when you hear kpop, since they are an indie rock band and not an idol group. They have 2 lead singers, both of whom are fluent in English, so their music is a mix of English and Korean. They are actually on tour right now with this album and this song live is AMAZING. I suggest listening to some of their other music like Alive, Sour, Yes, Beautiful,, Wonder (all of which are on their English albums) or Beauty and the Beast, Sorry, She's in the Rain, Red (Korean albums).
You mentioned Salt Lake City. I just saw The Rose in SLC at The Complex on October 12, 2023! It was amazing! During this song, I swear the roof almost blew off. The crowd was going crazy! It was so good. The Rose's sound is very diverse. I would recommend Alive next! Then Wonder.
Just attended their concert in Houston. So glad I've heard them live--they sound just like they do in mvs. They are still on tour so check their website and look at their schedule.
It's an awesome Indie rock band. I recommend checking more of them out! If you genuinely like this their song Alive is even better. Their song Sorry in Korean will make you cry. I saw them in concert just about a month ago and yes everyone was partying to this one! Also JK from BTS just dropped an incredible title track for his album Standing Next to You. The guys from The Rose are incredible! I was really fortunate to see them in Grand Prairie, TX on sunday night. Their catalog isn't the biggest but there are no skips. The end of this video leads into their song Alive so it may be what you want to check out next. My favorites (very hard to choose) is Lifeline, Nauseous and You're Beautiful from their new album and Beauty and the Beast, Insomnia, She's in the Rain, Time (live from Joshua Tree), The Definition of Ugly Is, Yes and Candy from previous work. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of it though. By the time I name my very very top, it can still be a third of their songs and thats cutting it short so I don't overwhelm anyone 😂.
Alive and Cosmos are mt favorite songs off their latest album. Red and Sour and Childhood are probably my favorite songs in all their discography so far

I've heard a few songs by The Rose so far and they are really good. There are lots of amazing artists in South Korea. Another rock band you could check out is FTIsland. My favorite group is Forestella. They are not a rock band, but a crossover vocal quartet. They are the kings of harmony and sing all kinds of genres (folk, pop, rock, movie theme songs etc.). Check out their cover of Scarborough Fair. It's gorgeous.
Alive, Wonder, Red, Sorry, and I love Woosung’s feature with Suga on Snooze plus his song Phase Me. But you won’t go wrong with any The Rose song.

They are fun and they give a lot of access to themselves so you get to feel a lot of what they are about. I even went to see them in NYC last month. Woo Sung has a lot of his own music out that is great too. The band had been on a break recently so the Korean members could do their military service. Woo Sung is from the LA area so eh didn’t have to serve and had some time on his own. Check out some of his (Phase Me). Love this band!
A lot of ARMY just discovered The Rose because Woosung (lead singer with the raspy voice) was featured on August D's song "Snooze," from his album D-Day (along with Ryuichi Sakamoto). That song is AMAZING. I found The Rose on Tik Tok a bit after I found BTS, but they were on hiatus then for the military service of the three Korean members (Woosung is Korean American). The Rose have a really interesting story, not the least of which is suing their label and winning and then going independent.
Glad you liked this.. check out their other stuff they cover a wide range of genres. They are definitely different than what you expect when you hear kpop, since they are an indie rock band and not an idol group. They have 2 lead singers, both of whom are fluent in English, so their music is a mix of English and Korean.
They are actually on tour right now with this album and this song live is AMAZING.
I suggest listening to some of their other music like Alive, Sour, Yes, Beautiful,, Wonder (all of which are on their English albums) or Beauty and the Beast, Sorry, She's in the Rain, Red (Korean albums).
You mentioned Salt Lake City. I just saw The Rose in SLC at The Complex on October 12, 2023! It was amazing! During this song, I swear the roof almost blew off. The crowd was going crazy! It was so good. The Rose's sound is very diverse. I would recommend Alive next! Then Wonder.

It's an awesome Indie rock band. I recommend checking more of them out! If you genuinely like this their song Alive is even better. Their song Sorry in Korean will make you cry. I saw them in concert just about a month ago and yes everyone was partying to this one! Also JK from BTS just dropped an incredible title track for his album Standing Next to You. In case you are living in a cave 🤷🏼♀️🤣

The guys from The Rose are incredible! I was really fortunate to see them in Grand Prairie, TX on sunday night. Their catalog isn't the biggest but there are no skips. The end of this video leads into their song Alive so it may be what you want to check out next. My favorites (very hard to choose) is Lifeline, Nauseous and You're Beautiful from their new album and Beauty and the Beast, Insomnia, She's in the Rain, Time (live from Joshua Tree), The Definition of Ugly Is, Yes and Candy from previous work. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of it though. By the time I name my very very top, it can still be a third of their songs and thats cutting it short so I don't overwhelm anyone 😂.

I've heard a few songs by The Rose so far and they are really good. There are lots of amazing artists in South Korea. Another rock band you could check out is FTIsland. My favorite group is Forestella. They are not a rock band, but a crossover vocal quartet. They are the kings of harmony and sing all kinds of genres (folk, pop, rock, movie theme songs etc.). Check out their cover of Scarborough Fair. It's gorgeous.
