Vince's voice was unmistakable. For your introduction to Loretta, you probably should listen to "Coal Miner's Daughter". The movie with the same title is biographical.

Loretta Lynn is one of the absolute legends of country music. Coal Miner's Daughter is her most autobiographical song, but she was a spitfire personality and a great songwriter who gave women a voice finally in country music. She was closest of friends with Patsy Cline before her early death, but Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, and Kitty Wells, these are sort of the big five female country singers who blazed the way for those who came after them. Vince is a legend also for a reason.

Vince Gill actually wrote this song after the death of his brother and his friend, Keith Whitley! The words truly come from his heart!!! I love Vince Gill! He's probably the only performer today that I would pay to see/hear!!!!! Vince wrote the song, Whenever You Come Around" and it was responsible for me falling so deeply in love with my husband who I lost after 22 years of marriage! Vince Gill's voice brings me to tears!

Loretta is a true icon. She was a great singer & brutally honest songwriter. She told it like she saw it & sang it like she meant it! Just a good ole country girl from the hills of Kentucky. Some of her songs were too controversial for the radio back in the day & they still made it to the top of the charts. Coal Miners Daughter, Fist City, You Ain't Woman Enough, & I Can't Hear The Music are a few of my favorites.

Lorettie (Loretta Lynn) is a country music icon from Butcher Holler, KY. Please watch the movie Coal Miner's Daughter with Cissy Spacek who Loretta hand-picked to play her. Cissy performed Loretta's songs in this movie! Loretta has a vast array of songs that she wrote as well as many duets with both male and female artists. She had 6 children and was a grandma by age 34. She had twin daughters in 1964 Patsy (named for friend Patsy Cline) and Peggy. They have been singers and actors themselves.

Omg, you MUST react to this song sung by Vince and Patti Loveless at the funeral of George Jones. Vince did break up when he was singing it because this guy was like a second father to him, But it only makes the song more beautiful and you can hear Patti's amazing voice coming through even more clearly. Better have Kleenex available when you do that one! She was so loving and empathetic towards him when he broke down.

I like the added part, I don't remember it 8 years ago when I had it played at my sons service. I had his service at the grave site (all I could afford). It was a hot August day and no wind. When this song played the part about go to heaven singing, Then Go rest high on the Mountain a strong wind blew on me (the only time during the service). I knew that was my son saying good bye to me. He had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing so I can imagine him singing in Heaven.

    Ok a couple of comments:
First, thankyou for sharing this version with the additional verse many of us had not heard.
Second, pretty much anything you pull from Loretta's catalog will be well worth your time, but also note that some of her early songs especially "The Pill" were revolutionary for the time they came out, addressing subjects not touched before her. She was FEARLESSLY honest!!
Finally, I have two Vince Gill suggestions from his younger years you probably havent heard of: suggest you do them with the video.
** a playful side of Vince in "One More Last Chance"
and for a whole different look at his guitar skills, the LIVE version of "Oklahoma Borderline".
LOVE your channel - keep doing what you do--its so much fun watching you discover this music I've loved my whole life ( and I'll be 66 by Christmas!!).

I lost my dad just a few weeks after I turned 16, he turned 40 just days before. We played this at his funeral. I'm now 42 ans blessed to still have my mom (she's 65). My mom became a widow at 39 and never remarried. She fought cancer alone as I live far away and had a baby, but went to help her often as I could. She is 3rd generation to get breast cancer and first to survive. I told her that I don't believe in waiting to tell people things bc tomorrow isn't promised. I told her when she dies I will play this for her. She is a strong woman, she has fought her whole life...someday when she goes to heaven and can see her parents and my dad she can finally rest and watch over us.

Vince singing this song, no matter who does the harmonies with him, is like hearing the voice if God. By that I mean, it fills me with awe and comfort both. Loretta Lynn was a spitfire that was years ahead of her time. She spoke her mind, and made songs about topics ‘ladies’ weren't allowed to speak of, let alone sing of. "Coal Miner's Daughter." Is a great introduction to Loretta. I can relate to every word she says. I don't know if city people even understands some of it, as in drawing water from a well. I wish I had a dollar for every bucket of water that I've drawn from the well and carried to the house. Water to bath , laundry, to drink. We didn't have indoor plumbing until I was 18 years old. Loretta was old enough to be my mother. I watched her sing when I still a kid. My mom Cloroxed everything. I guess that's why we all drank from a dipper and we never got sick. I was the youngest, my chore was to keep the buckets of drinking water full. Kentucky rain helped fill the barrels on each side of the house for laundry.

Wow…Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Steve Warner, Mike Rodgers and more. Loretta Lynn was the queen of country music. Grew up dirty poor in the Kentucky coal mines. Married at 13-14…four kids within four years. Her husband was a heavy drinker, hit her and cheated on her. She overcame it all. She stayed true to herself and fame never changed her.

My mamaw was a huge fan of his because of his voice was angelic to her and my papaw passed away suddenly in 94 due to a heart attack and this was a song she used in his funeral and then wanted it in her funeral when she passed away in 2004 It was also song used in my cousin's recent funeral grave site and my parents have requested when they pass away in their will they want it in their funeral So it's a big funeral song to us and our family and kind of a healing song for us as well It all started with my mamaw saying that we mourn for the people we love but also no they're in a better place and it gives us hope to see each other again That's the way she seen it My favorite version is where he is singing with Ricky skaggs which is a bluegrass singer and country singer He's more bluegrass though and Patty loveless which is a country singer as well

I just discovered you about an hour ago and I’m loving it! My love for Taylor Swift is how I found you. 😍 I saw Vince Gill in concert about 20 years ago and it was one of the best. I didn’t know how much of a guitar player he was until then. I swear he changed guitars every song! LOL I was mesmerized! You could go down a rabbit hole with all that’s mentioned here. I would suggest all Vince Gill, Carrie Underwood, Amy Grant (Vince’s wife), Sara Evans, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette just to name a few. Love your channel and will watch more!

Loretta was the Queen of Country Music. She lived a long and fruitful life, after a poor upbringing. My favorite memories of her are when she sang with Conway Twitty and Johnny Cash.

One of my favorite fiddle solos is the intro and fade out on the George Strait song “Amarillo😮 By Morning” and the intro on Garth Brooks song “Much Too Young To Feel This Damn Old” Also Strait’s “I Can Still Make Cheyanne” opens with a cool fiddle!
Vince is one of the most genuine and nice guys in the industry!
