  • We make a home made boost pressure leak tester for our turbo car from parts you can get from your local hardware store for around $10. We found a pesky leak in our custom intercooler piping and the car now runs better than ever!

This is hilariously full circle. 10 years ago I bought my first Subaru. Was looking for mod videos and found you guys. Recently brought the Subaru out of storage to get to work bringing it back to what it was, this video came up to show me how to check for boost leaks on the cheap. You guys are making auto community history and have been since 08!

Back when I had my 92 Colt hatch with a self built 4G63t engine, I made a boost leak tester out of a spray paint (rattle can) cap and a 1/4" air chuck and did exactly what you guys did here. When you're broke, you learn how to get in touch with your inner McGuyver and make shit work. I set the regulator on my small compressor to 15 lbs and plugged in the air line and found that my vacuum tees were the problem. Man do I miss owning a turbo car. Thanks guys!

Actually, this boost leak tester is not that good. Best way to do this is to pressurzie the turbo intake. That will allow you to test the turbo too. Also, you can leave the intake charge pipes on. Then you listen for leaks. You will hear air escaping into the engine, but my method will allow you to test the entire system, including Throttlebody, gaskets, vacuum hoses etc.
