  • Ok everybody, I have a brand new COUNTY for you today. This is TVI's first foray into the wonderful East Midlands beauty that is DERBYSHIRE! More specifically, Derbyshire Dales which in terms of parishes, is by far the largest district with a total of 109. We've got to start somewhere and I think I might have been hard pushed to find anywhere quite like this village to kick it all off.
Lead mining in Derbyshire is not uncommon, but here in an area surrounded by so wonderful scenery, you will find one of the most famous lead mines, Beans and Bacon, which is on the moor that takes it's name from the village. The lead mines are just one of the features in and around this village that make it special. The fountains are certainly another of these, then there's a market cross (despite the village never ever having a market!). How about the lane that was renewed with steps by German POWs?
There's some interesting events that take place in this village as well. Whilst we've encountered Well Dressing before (In Penistone), we've never come across anywhere yet that holds an annual carnival, and certainly not anywhere that has a firework display. You have to stand in awe though of maybe the craziest event that's ever been though of which too has a home here - the World Championships of Hen Racing! You'd better believe that the locals train their hens all year round for that!
On the quirky side, there's a little bit of a rivalry between here and a neighbouring village over a wooden carving known as "T'Owd Man", and the argument is whether or not it belongs to Wirksworth, or to this village. Personally I know which side of the argument I fall down on, but I'm not at liberty to say here! You can make your own minds up on that one!
You can also sit back and enjoy perhaps one of the loveliest villages I've been to so far, basked as it was in the late May sunshine, this was a corker, and if the rest of Derbyshire Dales is like this, we're in for a treat every time I come to the district. Enjoy the parish of BONSALL.

Lovely to see the village where my ancestors lived and in fact distant relatives I believe remain there. The Millward family.

Fantastic video, thank you ❤ you’ve taken me right to the home of my ancestors, the Twigg family, who owned Sycamore House, Townhead. It was in the family for going on two hundred years. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

I can believe that, Cath who helped me with this one said that Derbyshire folks are so very chatty and friendly. She isn't wrong! Everyone was great :D
