  • PEAK DISTRICT WALK FEATURING CROMFORD AND MATLOCK BATH
    "Cromford and Matlock Bath”
    Filmed 9th September 2020
    Post-production completed 24th October 2020
We are very close to where I live now as we reach the south eastern fringes of the Peak District. My walk takes me around Cromford to see the pretty village and nearby Arkwright’s Mills. I then walk into Matlock Bath, one of the first tourist destinations in the country, appropriately named “Little Switzerland”…..
Filmed in the Peak District in the county of Derbyshire. Locations include Cromford, Cromford Mills, Cromford Wharf, Masson Mills, Upperwood and Matlock Bath.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Special thanks to Cromford Village and Visit Peak District and Derbyshire for their helpful information used in my research for this film.

Another beautiful film Patrick,Cromford looks stunning but you could go absolutely anywhere and make a film and keep us enthralled for twenty minutes,as soon as I got the notification I knew it would be the highlight of the evenings viewing, mind I was a bit worried for you in the cave,I was urging you to turn back,I thought the lights were going to go out and you'd be lost,or that you'd come across something the further in you went, thanks for another brilliant film, superbly presented, researched, edited and paced,as always enough to make anyone visit the places you film,so glad I came across your channel a couple of years ago when I was poorly and started at film number one at 3 am.Thanks so much and take care,Pete 👍

Morning Pete, glad I was able to provide a highlight of yesterday's viewing for you 😊 That cave was amazing, but yes I turned back when I started to feel uncomfortable going back too far. The only way i could see where I was going was to use the light on my phone, which is quite powerful for such a small device. As always Pete thank you for watching. commenting and all your support. All the best. Cheers, Patrick 👍

That was a great episode! Cromford looks like a nice village, especially the Greyhound which looks like it is housed in a former Georgian house from the 18th century. The Cromford Mills look impressive as well, and so does Masson Mills; shame the shopping centre closed six weeks after you filmed this.
"Little Switzerland" is a great nickname for Matlock Bath, and the former pavilion and Heights of Abraham
are great landmarks. When I hear "Little Switzerland", I think of Church Stretton in Shropshire, which is placed in between several mountains, the notable of which is the Long Mynd (I visited there in October 2014 when I was ten years old). That cave you walked in for a few minutes looked eerie, I would get claustrophobic too. This is one of my favourite episodes from your series and I'm looking forward to more episodes!

WOW...thanks Patrick for an excellent video on one of my favourite places..matlock bath, a regular place for me and the wife especially in the summer months on my motorcycle with a few other biker friends, and your right, its an absolutely gorgeous place and best days perhaps to visit is a sunday in the summer months, specially when its hot and sunny.you chose a brilliant day weather wise to capture both cromford and matlock, and the way you have filmed and narrated and put together the background music as with all your videos, is television quality and I would say is good enough to actually be shown on tv. I only found out recently that the film..DEAD MANS SHOES...starring paddy considine and gary stretch was partly shot around matlock, but cheers again for another crackin vid. take care wayne

A fantastic film of two beautiful towns set amid the glorious limestone hills of Derbyshire. Richard Arkwright was no one-trick pony and his legacy to Cromford is on a par with that of Christopher Wren in the City of London.Matlock Bath has long been one of my favourite places, and your film is a timely reminder to me to re-visit the area once this whole Covid thing goes away. Fantastic film as ever. Quite an adventure going into the cave as well! It's a part of the world where the towns and villages almost equal the majesty of the countryside. Quite sad to see all the casualties of the pandemic/lockdown, I hope that the castle and Masson mills will have good new owners! I'd hoped to finally make it there this summer, so I will just have to hope I can explore it in the new year. Have you walked much of the Derwent? I would like to complete the path one day.

Yes, a beautiful place, which reminded me of Symonds Yat the latter only bigger. You know all the m houses creeping up the hill. I enjoyed this one Patrick - always enjoy your company. It seems to be water made its fortune around there. Without it the mills wouldn't have existed. A great bit of historic narration. Well, thanks Patrick - another top rate video. I sure was excited Mark to be going ro the Peak District for a job interview all those years ago, and I was lucky to have made it my future home 😊 Yes I can see the similarites between Matlock Bath and Symonds Yat, both have the houses up the hill as you say, both very busy with visitors, but Matlock Bath has a busy A-road running through it which makes it a traffic jamming hotspot unfortunately. Great to know you enjoyed this Mark, and always good to know you're along for the ride 😊 Yes those old Arkwright Mills are real landmarks now because of their history. Hi Patrick, beautifully shot video, as always and lovely scenery. I saw your short rant on facebook and would like to show my support. I write novel's most of which are free on Amazon. I get lots of lovely comments and review's but some are nasty and critique my writing style, which for some reason cuts to the bone and seem to make me dwell on them over the nicer comments. I always think if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Try not to let the odd troll get you down, if they think they can do better let them have a go themselves. I don't subscribe to many channel's on here, as I'm selective, yet yours is my favourite channel and i love hearing your stories thrown in, it gives an insight into the person behind the camera. Like you, i do my thing for the love of it with no reward and the odd naysayer won't put me off continuing what i enjoy. Thanks for all your vids and hard work and hopefully next year we will have a vaccine and get back to normality, as this year's been tough on everyone. Cheers.

Thank you so much Kelly, for all your kind words. As you have said, we shouldn't allow the odd naysayer to put us off. It has been a tough year for us all and I think getting those recent negative and rude comments just made me feel at an all time low at the time. That was partly why I posted that video as I knew people, as you did, would give positive feedback to me. I needed to receive that as all I'm talking to at the moment during this pandemic are the four walls that surround me at home, so the isolation doesn't help. Anyway thanks again for your lovely feedback and for all your continued support. Like you say, hopefully next year we can get back to some normality 👍

Hi Patrick. I’ve just posted, in response to your latest video, the following on your FB Page mate. ‘Hi Patrick. Unfortunately, social media, simply reflects, what is left of our so called ‘society’...... I’m a political animal, so I often come across this sort of nonsense from others when I’m making political points. However, I find it even more annoying, irritating etc when people make such comments on non political issues, videos etc. My standard response to these types is simple ‘if you don’t like the content, don’t watch it’ and ‘if it bothers them that much they should get off their fat, lazy, arses and do their own videos’. Also, these morons need to understand that it’s YOUR channel, so provided what you publish isn’t deemed offensive, which in your case it clearly isn’t, then you should be free to say what you want. In any case, I like the fact that you often refer to your childhood, family life etc, on your videos......it’s what sets them apart from other videos on You Tube and elsewhere. So, keep up the excellent work, ignore the morons and be aware that there are lots of us out here that love your work and that we will defend you against these idiots’. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
