    Started painting my set last week and I'm loving it. Going to prime more of it tonight. It paints up so well.

      Yeah, I'm so used to painting 3D-printed terrain that it is nice to paint on something without layer lines. What color scheme are you going with?

    Tip: Cut some of the long pieces into edge pieces.
    Tip 2: Glue fishing weights under Durkar's base.

    I just bought the completionist pledge. i took a look at the wizkids stuff at the store and it looks pretty bad. bad paint jobs and poor quality for the price. im glad i waited and saved my money.
    i wish there had been more variety of half walls in the kickstarter but im thinking ill just cut some of the standard dungeon walls in half with a razor saw to make my own half walls since they dont have standard dungeon half walls.
    Looking forward to your Woodhaven preview video 😆

    I was wondering. I got the primer in "Charcoal Grey" (as Slate isn't available in my local store at the moment), but it seems to be pretty much the same grey as the tile itself.
    Would you recommend a darker grey than Charcoal to prime the tiles ? Darker than Slate ? Does it benefits for contrast or something ?

    • @gaminggeek241
      @gaminggeek241  Před 3 lety +1

      It is up to you--the darker greys do provide greater contrast. You could experiment with black or as an alternative, brush on darker grey after your primer grey with a large brush.

    Thanks for recommending this video for my Hero Quest build. This is definitely a better value vs. Warlock tiles however It looks like I’m still going to have to modify the hallways to be 2x2. How easy is it for the game master to swap out walls for doors in this system?

    • @gaminggeek241
      @gaminggeek241  Před 3 lety +2

      You mean in the middle of a session? Pretty easy and quick as the walls/doors are utilizing a peg. I'm happy to report that they did come out with a functional hinged door in their new Kickstarter.

    Great review. How would you compare this to the dragons rest system? Have been eying the dungeons and lasers and am currently printing from Dragons rest. Purpose is dungeons for skirmish games but also for board games like folklore and middara

    • @gaminggeek241
      @gaminggeek241  Před 3 lety

      It really depends--for granularity, Dragon's Rest wins out because you can print out 1x1 squares, which is perfect for Middara. But for a 4x4 system (which is what most of the 3D print systems are) where having granularity doesn't matter, this is a great option. For example, if I just wanted to throw down a random dungeon, Dungeons and Lasers is pretty good and quick to setup. It's also cheaper than my Dragon's Rest per square since the magnets I use doubles the cost of each print. You may have seen it already but check out my dungeon comparison video that gets into all of this: czcams.com/video/MNXLm1n9ERI/video.html

    what do you spray over the tiles after painting them to protect them? thanks!

    • @gaminggeek241
      @gaminggeek241  Před 3 lety +1

      I didn't actually spray any varnish on them since the plastic is actually grey and I don't mind if that shows through with scratches. When you spray varnish, a lot of the top drybrushing will become muted or completely disappear but if you wanted protection, I would use either Testor's Dullcote or my go-to matte varnish is Rustoleum Dead Flat. An alternative is to spray the pieces and then drybrushing your final coat on top of that. Hope this helps!

    My hope was that this system could be used for Altar Quest. Is it possible to build the dungeon board for Altar Quest?

    • @gaminggeek241
      @gaminggeek241  Před 3 lety

      It wouldn't be an exact replicate but I don't think it has to be as long as you got the basic gist of the board down.

      They are 50mm tall compared to 45mm for the regular walls from Fat Dragon. Like I mentioned in the video, I am glad they are coming out with a half-height option for this Kickstarter which is the version I prefer.

      Ending up prematurely making that comment before arriving at that point in the video. When I rewatched the video I actually ended up enjoying the tiles so much I subscribed to the GGGG , thought I’d give the current patrons a run for their money 😂. Then again I’m currently on a unemployed students budget , so the run part may have to wait a couple months.

    Great review and info. But with WizKids now having the Warlock tiles at a similar(less?) price point...being pre-painted is HUGE. And obviously lots of us can print gobs of free files from Devin Jones Open Forge Tiles among others on Thingi. I feel like these would be a great deal at around half their asking price, otherwise the Warlock tiles give you a similar level of real estate, painted for less money.

    • @gaminggeek241
      @gaminggeek241  Před 3 lety +3

      Did you see my cost comparison at 3:40? If Archon prices the base set at around $40, it is half the price of Warlock tiles. If you buy two base sets and one of the alternative sculpts expansion for about $100, you will get almost twice as many floor tiles as Warlock at their starting price of $99. But you are correct that prepainted dungeons might be worth paying double the cost. And obviously, 3D printing is even cheaper but if you don't have a 3D printer, I think this is one of the cheapest options (compared to Warlock and Dwarven Forge).
