Went from Pentium B940 to i5 2540M!
This video was filmed with my Google Pixel 5a.
Upgraded the 5400rpm to a 2.5 inch SSD, the dead battery to a new one that can be charged, the 5 gigs (One 1 gig and One 4 gig stick to Two 4 gig sticks), and the CPU. Went from the Pentium B940 to the i5 2540M.
Definitely a few more years left in it now! Some of the clips I recorded for the person directly but included them in this video. My desk is messy... please don't be too hard on me. Thanks for watching!!!!

I finally did it!
Thanks to your tutorial and the advice you gave along the way. I successfully upgraded my G6 pavilion from A6-3420 to a A8-3500. WITHOUT a hiccup. My temps have been halved and I can now enjoy my laptop for a few more years.

Just asking but is that the fastest cpu for the amd version?
There was one apu that cost 4-5X as much as the one I bought. Roughly £80-90.

Your reaction was the same as mine. I took apart the whole laptop when I lost a screw after changing the ram and was so HAPPY when I saw how easy it can be to upgrade the CPU. 😀
if it was mine I would of spent the extra to get the i7. definitely love upgradeable stuff. :)

I have this exact model of the computer with the 3rd gen i7 3612qm. Just upgraded to a SSD recently as well - that 8 threaded quad core is really coming in clutch in these recent years!

This desk was used by Kids. They ate at it and played video games at this desk. This was my first time sitting at this desk in a couple months. I didn't realize how dirty it was until editing this footage. Sorry about that!!

Man you’ve given me the confidence to do something similar on my old HP envy.
Thankfully I won’t be replacing CPU as it’s a i7 albeit a 3rd gen. However I think it’s still good enough. So I will leave it.
I’m going to do the rest as you did. Change the HDD to and SSD, also increase RAM and get myself another battery too.
I might just add some thermal paste on the cpu if I’m brave enough to dissemble that far.

good luck! less heat, less battery drain (having the fans always at full blast with old/bad thermal paste), and that slow hard drive spinning at thousands of rpm per second the entire time your laptop is on. I'm excited for you!! You can do it.

hello excellent video and i have a question for what processator i can replace for better performance
i've had luck reviving batteries with an external charger (just a voltage regulated power supply) to get some starting charge in there.
some laptops say the battery is bad when they are empty (haven't been used in a few months)
I got the exact same one, now that I know what to get I'll give a try
I'm doing my AMD G6 soon, I always max upgrade my machines, I see it as their destiny lol

I bought a laptop model hp pavilion g6 2151sf in the state.
This computer had a defective fan and the battery was out of order.
I managed to resurrect the fan, I also took the opportunity to change the thermal paste and dust the PC after a day of testing the fan problem did not return.
Currently this computer has 8 GB of RAM and an Intel 3 2350m processor.
I would like to try to find an i7 processor
Thankies again!! There is a mini pci e to an external pci e so you can upgrade to external graphics!! I just got an AMD phenom II the SSD and the 8g ram from friend!! Going to attempt upgrade just need the thermal paste and psu and graphics!!

Thank you, I upgraded my laptop from Processor pentum b940 to i7 2620m 🔥But I suffer a little in the heat, with the maximum pressure rising to 86 degrees
._. I've....got a few laptops that deffently need work on after they got drowned in a flood I let both of the dry out and only my Acer laptop ran for a good while before it stopped working and the charger light began blinking when it wasn't supposed to not sure what may else be wrong with it
On the other hand I have an HP 2000-c427 (kinda looks like the G6 in this video) With the AMD E450 APU that also drowned it turned on for a split second before tossing up the single flashing caps lock key before shutting off or trying to boot again
At this point it's a major headache not being able to fix them with out cash ._.

I've been wanting to upgrade an old G7 Laptop I've had since about 2012. What type of CPU would you recommend? I need something fast for 3D printing files to load more promptly.

Also note that video showing 1 was at 720p and showing 2 in 1080p this laptop should hold up for a while more. Especially since the 2nd gen cpu is like... 9years old now? Its holding up well

hey i tried to open up the laptop to upgrade the cpu but there is a screw that wont budge any tips? (The screw im talking about is The Keyboard screw beside the wifi card)

Thanks for the Reply, yess it is my daily use computer. Unfortunantly after looking at my model: HP Pavillion g6-1015TU, I think that means it is the previous intel Generation. At the moment it has intel Core i5-480M.
Is it still possible to increase to i7 or would that require a whole new 2nd generation mother board?
If not the increse to 8GB Ram and SSD will still make a big inprovement.
In your experience does switching to SSD and 8GB Ram increase runnning temperature? as my core temp can reach 95 sometimes 105 degrees.

i'm pretty sure it would! Just try it and if it doesn't work, return the 16gb and go back to 8gb. it will either work, or it won't work. :) doesn't hurt to try.

I would upgrade the cpu but the cpu cost over 250 dollars cause they are not produced anymore

What is making the laptop faster changing ssd or cpu
both! the SSD makes the computer start up literally 100 times faster and so do programs. the CPU helps the programs run much better as well.

You will have to do your own research. Find hp’s supportive and put in the model that you sent me. Then goto supported CPU’s. If it’s on the list, hp says it should work. That’s what I did, and I bought the best one on the list that was within budget.

all i know g6 only holds up to 6 gb ram in max not 8gb.

You have to do research and find out what the max your motherboard supports. Just find your serial number, type it in on your computers support site, and they have a supported cpu/memory list. That’s what I did and I saw that an i7 would work in this one. But it was like 4 times the cost as the i5.
