  • This week we review Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin from the Black Forest in Germany. There might not be a gin on the planet that is more hyped than Monkey 47, but will it stack up in this gin taste test?

    Tried this a couple of days ago after a recommendation from a friend of mine, came here checking reviews to learn more about this Monkey 47. Definitely powerful stuff, the kind of drink that does burn you for quite some time in that first gulp, but in a pleasant way. Very rich taste, and very rich smell as well.

      Some waste-less cocktails would be an awesome idea too 😍

    This one is my favorite in a dry martini, with dolin dry 5:1, single drop of orange bitters, straight up with a twist (squeezed on top).

    I’ve never had gin but recently felt like getting into it and now I can say, “I’ve got a monkey on my back!” It’s so good on its own. Plus for the price it’s best to not loose its essence in a cocktail. Cheers!

      That's exactly my experience - the flavors and the way they evolve on your tongue is unreal. I imagine a talented mixologist could do something really interesting with it, but I'd rather have a bit of it neat on ice.

      @freddierodriguez3036 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@Antaios632 Can’t agree more. If you ever want to change the experience buy a big silicone ice cube. Use it to freeze water but also you can freeze ginger ale, sprite, or orange juice. As it melts it brings out different flavors from gin. Cheers!

    Can't believe how cheap Monkey 47 is in Germany, we really get ripped off here lol. It's still a pretty decent Gin, just a shame it only comes in a 500ml bottle. I do really like it, you would think the 47 botanicals would be too overpowering but it works really well.

    • @TimandTonic
      @TimandTonic  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah I’m pretty shocked as to how well balanced they managed to make it with all those 47 botanicals, it’s pretty impressive stuff and definitely love the flavour profile!

    • @TimandTonic

      Sounds like you’ve got the Monkey 47 Sloe gin, rather than the Monkey 47 Dry Gin. Sloe Gin is a traditional gin based liqueur made with, you guessed it, Sloe Berries. So it’s going to be sweeter, fruitier and lower abv than the gin in this video

    This used to be an amazing gin … and will always have a place in my heart as it was one of the first ‚sophisticated‘ gins I stumbled upon …. But In recent years it was bought out by a different company and it has gone down hill … no longer in my top tier of gins …

  • @dalivanwyngarden3204
    @dalivanwyngarden3204 Před 2 lety +2

    You pay 35$ for 500ml in Germany and that is a total ripoff imo. The nikka Coffey gin is way more interesting for just 30$ for 700ml. Or the Berliner Brandstifter dry gin for 35$ . There are so many gins that are cheaper and better for me.

    • @TimandTonic

      @@dommy7077 There are many nice gins, also german gins. I really like Alsace Le Gin from France, the duke from Bavaria Germany or Nikka Coffey gin which is probably the most available one of them.
