  • Today we dive into the subject of Gins and which are going to be standouts in your home bar. This is by no means my Five favorites but rather Five of my favorites. I'm not going to write a ton here because I don't want to be too repetitive or give the video away.
    Enjoy!

A great video that I didn't know I needed. To take this a step further, I'd be interested in a series where you mix-up a selection of classic gin cocktails with a variety of gins to compare-and-contrast flavor profiles and specs that work for each. It could be an education not just on spirits and specs but on thought process. One drink and a handful of spirits per video, and if you want to really work for it on the coordination, filming, and editing front, you could bring in some high-level Patreons to be tasters.

I feel like its Massively overrated. Its a good gin, and might be in my top 5 to 10 classic london drys, but it is nowhere near the best gin in the world. There are so many more that are better. Have you ever tried Junipero? Because that to me is the unrivaled best gin out there. I even rate T10 above No.3, But then again T10 is underrated anyways because it is so commonly available imo.

Lol, my brain 🤯 when you first said Tangueray No. 10 was released in 2000. I’d have guessed mid-90s as my drinking decreased sharply after my kids arrived in late 90s.
Your mentioning the year led me to a memory long forgotten:
My “regain my sanity” excursions (after my partner returned from 2 week business trips) usually involved my partner gently but emphatically encouraging me to get out & wander our city. I’d hit the bookstore & grab a nice lunch.
After a particularly grueling stint solo parenting, I’m asking for a martini (it was a particularly late lunch) and the wait person suggests this relatively new gin, Tangueray No 10.
I can, in my mind’s eye, recognize the restaurant (one of my favorites), see the white tablecloth, and remember relaxing into the joy of someone asking *me* what *I* wanted. Oh, the pampering!
I’m guessing it was early summer 2001, based on the sunshine streaming through the windows.
Thanks for being the catalyst for the return of that memory!
    ❤️

I have a looooong list of gins to try. I certainly don't expect you to cover all of them in a video, but I'd like to hear from you (or anyone else) about them:
Asbury Park Barrel Finished Gin (a local NJ gin)
    Barr Hill Gin
    Black Button Citrus Forward Gin
Botanist Islay Gin (100% getting this on my next trip to the liquor store)
Bowling & Burch Gin (no, this is not some Shoprite-brand gin)
    Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin
    Few Barrel-Aged Gin
Few Breakfast Gin (the wife will not approve)
    Gray Whale Gin
    Harahorn Norweigian Gin
    Monkey 47 Gin
St. George Gins (Terroir, Botanivore, and Dry Rye)

Asbury Park Just won gold for best regular gin at the San Francisco spirits competition 2021. Their barrel aged gin is also fantastic. Really rides the line between a whiskey and Gin. I use it in an old fashioned or Manhattan variation in the summer for a bit of a lighter drink. If you are in NJ, I was bar tending and helping the distillers at Sourland Mountain Spirits for the last few months. They also do a barrel aged gin that I would highly recommend.

@@leepetrenka I haven't had Sourlands' gin yet. They're much more local to me than Asbury Park, that's for sure.

I’ve read an article Dave Wondrich wrote that said to make home style Old Tom Gin you add 5 teaspoons of sugar and one teaspoon of hot water to your fav London Dry and Viola! Homemade Old Tom Gin. Idk I still like buying Ransom, Barr Hill , and Haymans Old Tom haha

Ooops! I have tried it with Beefeaters. The sugar took awhile to dissolve but the result was very interesting. Like I said before though I think I would rather have a Gin where the sugar was actually a part of the recipe bill and not added in afterwords

@@gusivan158 it's a new world gin. I would keep it simple witha gin and tonic. The flavors are very subdued and easily overwhelmed. I prefer it neat over a big chunk of ice. They also have a really nice twist on a martini on a recipe card that came with the bottle.
