- The movie is an exploration of identity at a crucial time in Northern Irish politics (Brexit), at a time when we are once again being forced to reconsider the notion of what it means to be Irish. The semi-autobiographical story follows struggling writer Matt (John Duddy), who returns home from New York to Northern Ireland for the first time in 25 years. It's time for Matt to finally face the ghosts of his past Katie (Kathy Kiera Clarke): an abusive teacher, his dead mother, and his childhood best-friend Declan, who sacrificed an easier life to stay at home and fight during The Troubles. Matt has a new book to write, but it's not going to be easy coming to terms with a thousand years of sectarian strife, with a gun to his head.

This was in my CZcams choices. I'm Sitting here at 6am in peninsula Malaysia on the 23rd of October 2023 with exactly the same snack that was mentioned, tea bags, sugar, milk, bread and peanut butter. The natural law of attraction is so subtle and yet so strict. I'm escaping the absolutely saddening and horrific news about the 7th of October that has been the main coverage (and rehashed over and over by uploaders and none really "new" news anyway) since around the 10th of October 2023) But this story isn't cheering me up and so I'm leaving it for now, at about 20 minutes into the film. Prayers for the innocent civilians of all the wars of all time. May true freedom be the reality of us all. Something big has to happen to change the dismal insanity of world leaders and their financial backers. A total upheaval is due. Democracy isn't working. Anarchism won't either. Nor socialism nor communism.
Hello. Your writing is interesting. I went to an all faith service yesterday for first time in 20 yrs. Meditation time given. I asked God for some leadership on this Israeli Hamas mess. Hatred permeates everywhere in this world and its all about money and religion. I dont understand it. Its also control manifesting everywhere. Love has to be the answer. Now how do we spread that? The minister said yesterday it begins with stopping the anger on our messages to strangers on CZcams..X..and etc. I agree. I send love to you. Please pass it on. ❤

A very good film. Learning from the past and moving forward into the future. A film about a forgotten past that leads to a promising future. also being able to bring closure by returning and healing as best that one can to rekindle a new start for future events. Well done. The entire cast of characters performed very well. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. a 5 star film.
This film resonated deeply with me in a time of sorrow, returning home and facing past demons. Bravo! 💯

I have moved back to Canada after 28 years in the states, I can in some ways relate to this story.

I have been living in Canada for 35 years and have raised six kids, and I want to go back to my home, Michigan in USA because I am not happy here. I don't think it's all about nations so much as who governs we the people. Where do we find freedom and peace in our hearts? We are all looking for our HOMELAND. Is it even here on our planet?

Our home , where our heart is. And it's hard to explain. I have been leaving in Canada since 1997. Canada has such a natural beauty, not too many countries possess. I love Canada in more, than one way, but than older I get, than more I want to go back to my home country.
Possible part spoiler warning so maybe watch first & read after! Nice scene at the end when he felt the earth and took probably his very last look and smell to remember, before going HOME. BTW I still live here and so was very interested in this movie and not disappointed.

Every decision we make has its consequences. What was done then is part of our past. Words that describe our country or our faith are designated to keep us apart with borders arming and insulating us with a version of some unresolved hurt or over a flag. or the past that we deem to be true. Can going back home to Ireland help heal childhood memories haunting us?

Slowest movie ever
I too chose this movie in the hope that I could, for a couple hours at least, take my mind off what haunts me. Today Friday 9th February 2024, I can’t rest and I can’t sleep … I just wait with dread in my heart for news of the slaughter of suffering and tortured innocent Palestinians promised us by Netanyahu. The complicity of the USA, UK, and EU in this genocide has traumatized me beyond all expectation. The movie reminded me though. that this happened in Ireland, in South Africa, and is happening in several places on this globe … but never before has it been so palpable, tangible even, as it is in Gaza today. Man’s inhumanity to man. I struggle to keep my faith in God even as I watch the Palestinians unwavering faith!
