Script tries hard to be mediocre. It doesn't adequately explain why the two more mature guys agree to become bandits and become wanted men. Since on the first heist they each got three years worth of pay, it would have been wise to split up seeing how easy the trio would get recognized. At the very least, joining that wagon train to Montana would have been the right move. No explanation why they didn't join. I'm sick of the idea that mentally healthy individuals would keep hanging out in regions where they were wanted for the death penalty by the authorities when other regions existed. Do movie producers think viewers would get confused by a venue change?!
I've also always found it painfully stupid when westerns feature a man rejecting a beautiful woman for no good reason. To rob more banks? For a few seconds it seemed like the Brolin character agreed to start robbing banks because he saw that it was expensive to be with a beautiful woman. But the script never followed up on this motivation at all.
So, why bait your viewers with Bronson? I'm out of here.
