I like this testing style a lot! I enjoyed more of the commentary and your thoughts throughout. More of this please.
You got it!
Did you consider that Starfield, like Hogsworth, is not optimized well?
ok, these insight are really good!!!! it seems being cpu bound is very important here.
Anyways, i'm gonna try the dlss mod, for what i've read the difference in fps in comparison with FSR isn't big, but the quality of the image is noticeable.
Will you test it with the dlss mod?
This is so interesting. Iâve noticed something like this in Warzone as well. When I use more mixed/medium settings it feels like I see better FPS on my frame counter vs when Iâm mostly on low settings.
I should do some benchmarking instead of just relying on my memory.
I was running a 5600X and 6800 up until Wednesday. Now Iâm on a 7800 XT.
Awesome on the upgrade! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Congrats on the 7800XT! Mine arrives by UPS tomorrow.
Do you think a i5 13400f would be a good pair with the 4060?
Its the new can it run crysis moment. Can it run Starfield?
FSR impacts CPU performance so if you are already near a CPU bottleneck, then it won't boost fps because the bottleneck will increase causing even less GPU usage. Setting the render resolution higher could possibly give you better fps at 1440. I would recommend trying 1440 with medium settings at 77%(fsr quality preset). It would put more strain on the GPU and less on the CPU. I have four computers that I do testing and benchmarking videos with. One has a 3700X with a 6700XT. I tested it at 1080 but this video makes me curious how it will do at 1440. It had issues hitting 60fps at 1080 as well because of the CPU bottleneck.
I'm using 3700x with 1660 super
Should I upgrade to rtx 3060 or rtx 4060
i just got starfield, but cant play it because it is running slow, so i would like to know what rtx, amd would make it run good to great
đ People always forget that there is more to owning a PC than just gaming. Those specs will work great for a lot of things.
I was definitely caught by surprise when the performance, double with 4k (FSR). I thought the 4060 would knock this game out the park at 1080p lol Great video as always bro đȘ
That's crazy, raise the res for better performance lol
Great video again, brother!
for the 1st - why 3800x?
Did you try faster RAM as other people seem to indicate thats super important and while 3200 was fine on 3000 series for most things I do wonder if it is a factor here. Turning down settings that free up more gpu including fsr does nothing and cpu isn't claiming to be fully leveraged so the limiting factor is probably elsewhere imo.
For these benchmarks, no. I just used the 3200 mhz kit installed in the giveaway budget PC. Iâll do more RAM testing on my 4090 offline.
@@ErockOnTech Yeah makes sense just curious as this looks like a perfect situation to find out if memory speed scaling is as big a deal as some people are claiming. If you were to do a pass with faster or even slower ram I would love to know if it makes any difference.
@@notwhatitwasbefore Iâll let you know. So far, Iâve only observed minimal differences.
@@ErockOnTech Thank you, Starfield is one of those rare games that make me wish I had several sets of hardware to fiddle with and work out why it behaves the way it does.
Just learnt that it loads data from the SSD in small chunks that can bottleneck the game even on PCI-e 5 systems so some of the 'oddness' I've seen in various benchmarks may actually be related to that.
@@notwhatitwasbefore Ah interesting. Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
Why does he run like he's in water or tied to a string pulling something?
good stuff
Dlss 3.5 mod helps a ton with this game
Yup, with an i9 9900k and 2070 super I get a constant 55-70fps. However it dips to 48-50 here and there. (This is with DLSS mod)
@Boosted_aj i have 7950x. I started looking into the files and will be spending the weekend sifting through everything. There's a few settings im looking for and if i find them i should get about 15% more fps on avg
Yeah I use it with my 4090.
Mine was 1080p 31fps on low with dynamic res on
the new atlantis benchmark at 1080p should become a reference for cpu benchmark xD but guys dont forget the gamplay is not only in the big cities there are alot of other places that get u 60+ (my 4060 windforce is doing good with the 2600x but i will upgrade for the 5600x for better performance
Would the intel i7 handle it
what does 'bottleneck' mean? its limited on performance?
Yes. It means something within the system is holding back the performance.
nice vid
Thank you!
I think this brings up a really good point to aging R3000 system owners. It might be worth at least looking into an R5000 (5600 at the least) upgrade if their board has a BIOS revision to support it and try to get one last run with the system now that we're starting to hit these string of games really taxing system capabilities. Figure a 3700X owner could grab a 5700X or 5800X3D, maybe a 2x8GB additional RAM kit if they were at 16 and assuming the GPU is already good enough then it could pick up the QOL moving forward. Even if the system then gets retired to being a secondary workstation type computer, it can keep up for years to come until it's no longer viable to repair.
Hilariously every other game i actually like runs amazing on my 3600 and rx580 like BG3 for instance.. deff same calibre studios.. not at all massive differences in game quality đđđ i refunded Starfield and will come back in 3 years like skyrim.. no rush to a mere bethesda game.. the real one is made by modders anyway
Would love to be young without a family and massively waste money on lowly upgrades.. still prefer to finish this mortgage and take a few years off work to travel with wife and kids đđđ
I'm still very indecisive on whether I'll be getting this game. I've heard so many love-hate stories already lol
I like it a lot. If you like Bethesda games, youâll like Starfield.
Look at the gpu power usage that shows it's being underutilized. Nvidia needs to do some serious driver optimization but until then the free frame gen mod will fix it to make the game run much better. This isn't as much a cpu bound issue as it is a gpu underutilization issue.
Do you think Bethesda purposely gimped Nvidia GPUs in favor of AMD?
@@ErockOnTech That's a very good question that I don't have the answer to. Maybe instead of Bethesda it was AMD's engineers that gimped Nvidia on purpose because I would think that they would be the ones most capable of doing that, but it does seem plausible that someone gimped Nvidia. What I do know is that Nvidia still hasn't released a driver optimized for Starfield yet, but maybe they legitimately haven't had enough time since it could be a really tough problem to solve that takes a lot of man hours. There's also speculation that they've diverted a portion of their gaming engineers to the AI department. Since this is an ongoing story, take everything I say except the gpu underutilization with an entire shaker of salt.
Edit: Here's proof that AMD cpu's do worse in this game, so take that for what you will: czcams.com/video/cfSYm3YfqPs/video.html
@@pf100andahalf Thank you for the link. Yeah I see that Intel performs noticeably better in Starfield. Yeah something weird is going on with Nvidia GPUs for sure. Iâm starting to think itâs general Bethesda coding issues more than anything else. Todd Howard said âthe game is optimized for PC. Maybe you need better hardware.â What an awful statement. But it speaks to his mindset. He calls this optimized. Smh.
Starfield is a hard game on a GPU , Iâm running 5950X with water cooled 3080 and getting 35 to 45 at 4K all max settings , maybe I should try to drop to 1440 and see how it goes
great video thanks for the content, just want to mention that 30fps on a console is not the same as 30fps on a PC because of frame pacing and other factors :)
So is 30 fps on pc better than 30 fps on console or the other way around?
@3RST-GAMING it depends on certain factors. Consoles are designed specifically to have a steady frame pace where on a pc you can set an FPS limiter but there will still be a little stutter on PC vs Console. Pc has more demanding tasks and it depends on the game you are playing and how optimized it is for PC. If it's straight console to PC port 30fps will be the same or similar to console. But if you play Miscrofost Light simulator on PC at 30 fps vs 30 fps console, you will favor the console more because that is not a direct console to PC port game.
@ocgamer7072 so because other things run on a PC, the game your playing wouldn't be as smooth as a console which is dedicated to running the game smoothly?
You could say that, but there's more to it. It can be a factor though.
Great benchmark. I'm still deciding if I want to play this or not.
I like it a lot. Itâs a good game. Lots to do.
wheres undervolt/overclocked 4060 video? ^^
I gave the 4060 away.
I made a video about it. czcams.com/video/HFHeGx3oDkk/video.htmlsi=PrVgIJAJ3wCZowIB
Im shocked concidering I'm getting around 90 on 1440p in new atlantis and that's on a 4090
Yeah the game is so CPU limiting. Itâs ridiculous.
@ErockOnDeck some of the games I've been alpha and beta testing have all been cpu bound. I'm wondering if thats gonna be the new norm with all the x3d and cache loaded processors
@@Dr_Angry It seems to be the new norm for some reason. I donât like it.
there a memory bandwidth bottleneck in the game.... if you use faster ram with the 3800x you will get better fps in the cpu limited scenes but even that will only go so far
Are you sure it's going to be a surprise to your friend at this point? đ
Haha he isnât watching this. Trust me haha đ
I dont know 40-50 fps at 1080 seems good to me. Im not expecting better, currently installing on an i7-6700 with 3060
Impressive 4K with a 300.00 gpu.
đđđđđđ
Oh wow a comment from Nico Suave! Letâs go!! Thank you so much!!!
Lets be honest, the bethesda game engine is crap. The graphics are not bad but also not the greatest and you cant even play it on maxed out settings at 1080p with 4060. This is nuts. 1080p was the standart like 10 years ago.
First :)
Beat me đ
Thank you!
I don't mind that gpu but I don't like that game
I understand. Itâs not for everyone.
second
Haha yes you are! Thank you!
