Mary Black for me is one of the finest Irish singers of all time yet I only saw her once in concert in Pedigree Corner 🇮🇪🎵😊💚
I don't think there could be a better tribute to Sandy than this perfect version of a timeless song.
IMO one of the best interpretation of Mary Black, perfect execution, expressive, emotional, intense. Amazing.
The greatest cover of the immortal and glorious Sandy Denny that there ever could be. Thanks, Mary for your tribute to the greatest singer the world has ever seen.
Mary Black at her best. She loves singing Sandy Denny It's so very obvious.Still listening in 2020.A very different world in such a short space of time.We shall be just fine.I saw Mark Black in Dublin in concert during the world economic disaster than was 2007/08.Ireland was hit hard,it was like a depression.Mary Black was singing very close to where she grew up.She said before a song that we shall get through this, She was right.Look at what we fight today. No one would have imagined.☘️
Plangent and beautiful, her voice and the arrangement ... just lovely.
MARY BLACK HAS A BEAUTIFUL VOICE
Mary's voice is exquisite in this tune -- thank you Mary for this treat! You are a song bird beyond compare.
One of the most beautiful songs and finest renditions ever !
If you an listen to this and not shed a tear, you are hardly human.
After listening to "Transatlantic Session #1", I've been chasing her all over the internet. Truly a remarkable performer...
After all these years it still moves me. Just perfect
The beauty of this song and the way Mary Black sings it always brings tears to my eyes
Just love this song haunting but beautiful in every way
Mary Black at her best what more can you say . Just listen 👍
The raw talent of Mary Black. Oh how the years have rolled on and now her daughter Roisin O is becoming famous and wow she is also an unbelievable talent. Great memories thank you Mary
The most wonderful rendition of this song
Sandy Denny’ version is the best for me
I was privileged to hear Mary Black when she sang in Frederick Md a few years ago-I was not familiar with her music then-I will never forget the experience-A voice and phrasing that cannot be forgotten.Always so proud of my ancestral country and its' people. So proud.
What a wonderful version! Really beautiful.
Sandy would have loved Mary's version. True to the song and the girl who made it famous. Great stuff!
Beautiful!
This beautiful performance by Mary Black served as one of the main inducements for me to purchase the Transatlantic Sessions 1 DVD set when it finally came out.
wunderschön !!!
no words to describe this beauty !!!
God bless you Mary Black and God bless Ireland
Nice version of a Richard Thompson (Fairport Convention) song.I still prefer the original with the great Sandy Denny on vocals, but fair play to Mary Black for helping to make more people aware of the music of Sandy Denny (and Richard Thompson/Fairport).
This is an incredible cover; Mary's voice does this song so much justice.
A música com esse arranjo, e interpretação ficou fantástica. 👏👏👏💯
Stunning in its beauty.
Beautiful....much needed after a rather unsatisfying St. Patrick's Day....
Thank you :)
Tears in my eyes just listening and I don’t know why.
I think that is because the words are so sad…
thanks for your words - that's the perfect description of this amazing gift, that i've been listening to over and over again
Wonderful. Such sincerity in her voice. Thanks for posting.
Well done Mary!!!
Beautiful Voice
If anybody here has not heard the original Sandy Denny version, please go listen to it now.
Great !
Melody is written by Andy Irvine (Willy O'Winsbury).
beautiful
outstanding.
Wonderful
@padraigpurseal This song was written by Richard Thompson, who Mary Black also holds in high regard. To hear Mary's cover a true Sandy Denny classic listen to "By the Time it Gets Dark" from this same Transatlantic Session. If you think this song is beautiful - and it is (quite staggeringly so) - wait until you hear that,
Happy xmas dad xxxx
absolutely love this version of the song. incredibly beautiful can anybody point me to chords for this version?
As a third generation irishman in the us, I here this !
Wow!
The mary black instrumentalist sing there is no end,
after finished watching Baby Reindeer. 13th May,2024.
For my dear friend & Christian Sister Krisanna who succumbed to her injuries from a horrific motorcycle crash last Saturday night.
Strength to you in your mourning
@@gijsbertuslaurensvandevooren thank you
zum weinen schön
Ali Bain on fiddle too. It doesn't get much better.
As a third generation irishman in the us, I hear this !
I hear ya....I always feel deeply affected after hearing this....much in the same way as Mary Chapin Carpenter's ''John Doe No. 24'' gets me.
What are you hearing in the US Jimmy boy? This is a tune written by Richard Thompson after the death in a car accident of a fellow band member in Fairpot Convention.
@fch1639 Note that the DVD is PAL format, not NTSC. PAL is the standard in Ireland. My DVD player won't play it....one of my computers won't play it.....two will.
Sandy n'est pas morte
Anyone know the guitar tuning? Probably DADGAD?
Traditional tune, not Andy Irvine's.
Not trad - Richard Thompson wrote it.
But the tune is traditional, I think. Check out Will o Winsbury.
Liam Kennedy I'm pretty sure that Richard Thompson wrote the lyrics but it is a traditional tune. Beautiful either way.
Richard thompson lyrics seem to increase in meaning as decades pass.
@@SuperAllanjames Oh yes.
I've always hated it when a singer changes one to he, what are you afraid of? Being too inclusive?
Beautiful!
