Did mine today. Passenger side. Saw the comments about the third nut and I discovered that the window must be up. Thank you very much.
My truck was broken-in-to by someone who knew exact what there were doing. I had to use a 10mm manual wrench to reach the nut behind the window. A socket does not reach the nut, closest to the front of the vehicle at all, by sliding my hand into the door. Since my truck has manual windows I had to pull out the window crank first. Your video was very helpful in knowing how to proceed. The estimate was $91. I bought the part for $8.80 and did it myself. Thanks for posting this video! :)
Thanks my brother for this video now I fell much better about replacing my driver door handle on 03 silverado. God bless you and your house.
Appreciate the video. Referenced it a couple times while I installed my new door handle and got it done relatively painlessly.
Thank you.
One cold morning I broke mine, thanks for the walk thru video I was able to this with no previous automotive experience. 👍
Appreciate the video. Referenced it a couple times as I installed my new door handle and got it all done relatively quickly and painlessly.
Great instructional! I've patched a gas tank, replaced a selinoid (sp?), rebuilt and replaced carburetors, fuel pumps, radiators, replaced U-Joints, etc. My brother gave me an old station wagon with a set of tools and he told me to learn how to use them so i did! Lol! Informative video. Thanks!
Hahaha I saved money doing it myself thank u for the video
why would anyone thumbs down this video??? Thought it was a great simple walk through
Did this today. Took awhile but it saved me some coin. I had to take out my window and all trim. Fun...real fun.
Thanks for the instruction on How to replace an exterior door handle. I have the same issue on the driver side as well. After watching this video I feel very confident that I can replace my handle myself...Tomorrow! ;)
John my door won't latch shut
Ok...I did it !! Was easier than I thought.
*** Window must be up***
***Put your hand up and you can feel it. Use a closed end 10mm wrench. Break the nut... Twist off with fingers***
Other than that fantastic job showing how to do this by the video poster !
Thanks
Thanks for the video! I just replaced my door handle with minimal problems!
Thanks for the upload just did mine on my Avalanche while watching your video
Doing mine today. After watching this, I could do this myself. Thank you
Yep...after watching this video I will tackle my broken handle tomorrow with ease...thanks for the know-how !!
Great video. Thank you! I just broke my GMC handle 20 minutes ago...
i just broke mine too fucking winter
THE HIDDEN 3rd NUT! Having just done mine, I was on the drivers door for mine. I looked into the hole on the edge of the door and saw the nut at the height of the outside door handle. I reached up into the door cavity with my right hand and placed an open end 10mm on the nut, turning it only enough to break it loose, and turned it with my fingers. Some people also use ratcheting closed end wrenches.
You just grew a forth nut...
I was wondering where it was because he didn't show it
Thanks for the vid! Was able to replace my door handle on my 05 Tahoe today!
pretty good video. I just did this and took about an hour. The third nut is not that difficult. Just stuck a wrench up there to loosen and took it off. Hardest part for me was the lock mech. The new handle comes with that clip so I just took off the old one and it popped out. Was easier for me with that clip off
I taped panel for clearance. No wire disconnect needed
Went to open mine... Just broke.
Just Did the tailgate... Now the drivers side handle.... Guess the most used break.
Thanks good video.
Thanks for the instructions. Very helpful. God bless you!
Thanks sir I subbed u have great content 👍
What about the third nut I'm having to try to figure out how to get the third one off you might want to redo the video
Yea
It is very difficult to reach ... when you peel the plastic back you will need to reach inside the door panel and feel your way ... take a look at the new part to get a feel for where it is ... a combination wrench is good to have. My old part was broken so that 3rd nut was easy to remove once I took out the rest of the old handle. The replacement part is a bit loose so I ordered another handle and will post after I get it and put it in. BEWARE as the one I got off Amazon was super cheaply made - it works but makes the vehicle feel cheap.
You made my life easier and for that sir I thank you.
Def helped alot. Breezed right thru it. The 3rd bolt isn't that hard to get to
Thanks buddy I'm going fix mine right now.
This video is awesome got my job done👍
I just let the door panel hang you can still get to everything one less step unplugging and plugging in the wire harnesses.
Thanks bro. Helped a bunch.
Good video, I'm going to try changing my door handle by myself. You make it look easy
great video! the job itself only took me about 30 minutes. however i spent another 2 hours on removing and reinstalling the door panel. when installed, it seems like something is putting pressure on the lock linkage so it doesn't lock or unlock (lock lever inside doesn't move with a key or unlock button). it works fine with the panel removed. any ideas? thanks.
That was a big job just for a door handle and you handled it well !!
Mechanic would have charged him $400 just for the labor to switch out that $20 part!
Anne-Marie Brooks , I agree. That's why I said, he handled it well !!
Ok so everything went smooth. Went to check to see if handle and lock worked properly but when using inside handle, door opens and when using outside handle it does not. Do the two rods for the handle connect somewhere inside or is there only one rod for the handle? What am I missing
Thank you!
Thanks Man Great Video.👍✌
You skipped the only hard part... How to get the top 3rd nut off the handle surround. Either up or down, It's behind the window and no access hole in metal?
No way to video, just reach up with a socket wrench
Not hard at all
mver i agree with you......... SSLFAMILYDad at least next time mention it
Ya the nut you don't show is horrible to get to. Incomplete video.
So how I can reach the freaking nut 😡
Thank you for this!!!
great video, I did it and the sliding power lock is really stiff now.. maybe I have the door panel on too tight? Thanks again
does not show how to remove the third bolt on the front of the handle.
Good video. 👍🏼
I'm glad we have not had any of our Ford's have any problems with the doors.
Is your Ford 15 years old?
The only reason why I need this is because some jack tried to break into my truck and broke the pin that holds the lock in place the fun part was trying to pry the door open to unlock the truck
Thank very much
I just broke my door handle 2 hours ago
But I lost my remote 3 days ago and the won't open the key lock works but the handle is broken💔
How did u get the 3rd bolt off
Did the handle come with new nuts? Mine fell off
Good job
Cool thanx !!:)
Thank you
Thanx, good stuff!
Mine's not working....It went smoothly (we did it before on the driver side), but the handle doesn't catch anything once installed. When you pull on it there is no pressure, like it is already in the pulled on position, and you can see that the little rod is not moving up and down. It seems like it will work but once it is all the way pushed into the door it doesn't work, the metal part that is supposed to be pulled when you pull the handle is already in the "pulled"position (the metal arm that is in the plastic bracket that moves when you pull it. Can't tell if it's a bad handle or something wrong in the door or the rod, but the rod is still attached and it will move until I push the handle all the way into it's mountings. The door does open from the inside. Hubby pulled the handle right off when it was frozen shut last week. The metal piece that comes up out of the spring and then has the little plastic bracket snapped right off so the little part that clips onto the rod stayed on the rod and the handle came off. The bolts all stayed in the door too because the weak point on these handles is that the screws are glued into the plastic handle. Any thoughts on if I"m doing something wrong? 2004 Tahoe passenger side
Thank you.!!!
What if I want to replace keyhole?
gloss black.
should have got the matte black one to match the others
When I pull on outside door handle it seems lose
and won't open door. Does this fix problem?
How do you do the rear handle
Thank u
Did you practice this whole procedure before you videoed it? You made it look like you've done this a few times. Nice job!
Yes but this guy does not tell you about the third bolt being behind the glass that you cannot get access to
@@kimburge8028 You can get to it. It is just the most difficult one. You have to peel down the plastic. Peek in the side door hole with a flashlight, and reach way up through the door.
@@rebeccag6420 or have a ratcheting box wrench, and you can see through the third bolt hole with the rubber grommet on the steel
Two other folks have asked the same thing, the most important, meaning hard to access is the 3rd on closest to the front of the truck. Do we need to drill out a piece of the inner door frame as Ford had us do back in the gen.2 broncos from 78 on up to replace the window motor?
I used a small socket wrench to reach up and get to it, no drilling
Good morning ✌
Theirs 3 nut and you only show 2 How you took out the 3rd one out?
I'd like to know also - he does not show what bitch that one is.
my door handle doesn't spring back up when I open it
Hey there. I replaced the driver side handle, and got everything connected. I closed the door to test it before fully connecting the the panel back on. The door didn’t open, so I went in to open from inside and it didn’t open either. Now I’m stuck. Any ideas? Thanks!
I'm curious. Did you get it to open yet? Did the door become locked while replacing the handle?
I have the same issue but on the passenger side
You didn’t even show how you got all 3 nuts
There is 1 nut that’s at the top right , that you did not show how to get off. Lol.
That's where the 94 "thumbs down" came from
Yes he does not show you that one - skips right past it
Any advice on matching paint?
The handle comes in black matte or glossy matte black. I think that is how they all are, no other colors
Ok what am I doing wrong? The key turns but won't unlock the door? It will lock it no problem ...
Do I need new set of keys for the new door handle
No, the lock portion stays
Gave this a thumbs up, but I drive a toyota so I am not familiar with having to replace parts or need repairs on my car or truck.
The third Nut ???
Currently just sporting some zip ties
Can you come fix my Suburban?
On the 2004 chevy are all the nuts 10mm
If I remember correctly, yes they were all 10mm. In fact most of the nuts around the body and engine seem to be 10mm also
Looks like ya need a mirror too lol
Fixed is a scam they don’t tell you there is a charge to use it so yea in the long run it is better to just get a good scanner if anybody wants to buy a fixd I will gladly sell you mine
You skipped a nut the hardest most unreachable one very misleading
Damn straight.
Taking the door card off is extra get someone to help you or something prop it on save yourself 30 minutes
The paint doesn't match. You hafta paint the rest of it. ;-)
M
Had to give this a thumbs down because it does not show how to access the 3rd most forward bolt that secures the door handle. This job is more involved than this dude let's on. Big time incomplete!
You are right - the nut is behind the glass and no way to get to it !
This guy shouldnt make video ifhes avoiding the one behind window
