    Last year we bought a 2010 Mercury Marques with only 21,500 miles, and it looks new. It was garaged every day of it's life and belonged to a 90 year old that was having trouble seeing. All I did was replace the battery, serpentine belt, anti freeze flushed and a new set of Michelins. The tires were flat spotted and 13 years old, everything else was preventative. We have had show cars all our lives and did a two week long detailing on the Mercury, it looks 99.9% new.

    • @kevindoxey
      @kevindoxey Před 5 měsíci +1

      With the 1998 through 2011 Town Cars the only difference I see in comfort is in seats. In the earlier Town Cars ( 1997 and back ) the seat bottoms were wider and much more comfortable for your legs. The Grand Marquis never changed the seats they are more comfortable than the 1998-2011 to me. Especially the back seat. There is also more leg room in the 1997 and earlier years in the Town Car. With that said, I'd still rather own a Town Car!

    I love all the Town Car's just like you. My order of preference is different... but we are different people, so that makes sense. My favorite is the 2nd generation. Then the 1st. Then the 3rd.
    I bought a 1993, because I found a real creampuff cheap.. I'd rather have a 1996 or 1997 though. OBD1 interface on the older ones is a real pain in the rump.

    • @trwsandford
      @trwsandford Před 6 měsíci +3

      @@EnthusiastCarHangar I'm not sure there is much of a difference in ride quality between the generations, if we are talking about the air ride cars. They were introduced in 1988. They are all fantastic!
      The second generation is the longest one, but the first generation is a bit heavier. I've only ever ridden in a first generation pre-air suspension, so I don't know. The third generation is the shortest, but also the heaviest. I'm keeping my eyes open specifically for a 3rd generation long wheel base edition... Its been pretty hard to find one low mileage.
      I think you would have to do back to back testing over the same course on the same day with all 3 to draw a conclusion.

      Starting in 2008 the air ride was deleted for traditional coil Springs, my 2011 is not quite as good as my 2003 air ride model but it’s not bad either, when the air ride goes bad lots of people just switch over to air shocks.

    I love my 2002 Town Car that I bought in 2007. It's been very reliable, with very few repairs. In 2015, the rear air ride suspension went out, and I had it replaced with coil springs. It's too bad that Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln discontinued the Panther Platform cars after the 2011 model year.

    • @EnthusiastCarHangar
      @EnthusiastCarHangar  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Thanks for sharing! My Crown Vic had the air bags for the suspension leak air so they got replaced which was easy. I think if they had continued the panther platform they would have modified it for new standards and norms which would have been nice. Have owned Crown Victoria LX, Grand Marquis, 89 Town Car Signature Series and current 2007 Town Car Signature Limited. While I miss chrome bumpers, you can't find a better comfortable, luxurious and reliable vehicle. FMC made a HUGE mistake in dropping Crown Vics, GRAND MARQUIS, and TOWN CARS. These can easily go 300,000 and then some with proper maintenance.

      I truly believe FMC could have continued them with few changes. The Crown Vics were popular with law enforcement and Taxi. Town Cars were a favorite of livery services. Not sure what other factors were involved, but believe focus on SUVS and crossovers was one .

    That's a mode Dore actuator, not a blend door

    • @EnthusiastCarHangar
      @EnthusiastCarHangar  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Could be yes. Some of it can be the blend door actuator as well.

    • @MrForrestcl
      @MrForrestcl Před 6 měsíci +2

      The blend door motor only takes care of temperature and requires dashboard removal. I always notch out the third eyelet in the back that goes to the 8mm bolt on the new one to avoid partial removal of the case. The mode Dore ic the only thing that controls the " floor, panel, and defrost modes"

    • @MrForrestcl
      @MrForrestcl Před 6 měsíci +2

      To clarify, I remove the front two 8mm bolts and grab the motor and break the third eyelet. I then loosen the rear one the is covered shelf that holds the dashboard in to accept the totched out new one.

      Still less problems than most vehicles these days, I haven’t had any rust problems, in my town cars are outside in the weather all year around. Luckily, I haven’t had any problem with blend doors, I’m sure I will have an intake problem in the future but that’s cheap to fix, I also don’t consider them pigs, but to each his own I guess.

      Blend doors, 0 issue on my 2010. Same for intake manifold. Did have to replace throttle body. No biggie. Rust? My car was a Florida car and I had it Ziebarted before it saw any Ohio snow and salt. Still 0 rust, frame looks like it rolled off the line yesterday. It's all about finding a good one and taking care of it. Not expensive at all.
