The 2024 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport is a unique offering in the pickup truck segment, combining the comfort and ride quality of a much smaller vehicle with distinctive features not found in its competitors. Despite lagging in sales behind popular models like the Tacoma and Frontier, the Ridgeline stands out for its superior on-road comfort and a refined driving experience. The TrailSport represents a new variant for 2024, maintaining the second-generation design introduced in 2017 and subtly updated in 2021. This version follows the introduction of the Pilot TrailSport, adapting its attributes to the pickup truck format.

"Not the best-sounding V6"
I have never heard that before lol!
My sentiment exactly he's got no experience with the now rare natural V6
Ive owned three of these and numerous other trucks Ford,Chevy,Toyota etc. The ridgeline is a solid made truck that will last hundreds of thousands of miles. It's no off roader, but the AWD system is excellent and can tow/haul like any other midsize with an extremely comfortable ride. Is it flashy no but this engine is tried and true and will last unlike the newer Fords and Chevys. Toyota adding a turbo to the Tacoma was a huge mistake.
2500 miles on my 2024 RL BE. This is my 4th RL in 19 years and my 24 is definitely the best so far. Pleasure to drive, great ride, nice stereo, the trunk, center console, love it.
Funny thing is the Ridgeline has a higher payload than most midsized trucks including the Tacoma.
Still not a real truck
@@user-vt9ss3ft2zcall it whatever you want, nobody cares
@@user-vt9ss3ft2zu r a looooooozer
More interior space. More payload. Bigger compact bed. Better ride. Better mileage. In-bed trunk. Naturally aspirated v6. Unless needing to tow or go off road regularly. Why would you buy any other mid-size truck?
@@user-vt9ss3ft2z At some point in your life you have to make a decision if youd rather drive a reliable vehicle that gets the job done or drive something poorly made because of how other people will perceive you. Ford and Chevy do not make quality vehicles anymore and with Toyota going to 4cylinder turbo on the Tacoma, the Ridgeline will definitely outlast any competitors in the midsize category. These trucks are all well over 40k now I want something that will last beyond the last payment, I'd take the non truck.
"Not the best sounding V6"
Opinion immediately disregarded
Came here to write the same thing lol. What's he on about, the J series VTEC sounds amazing
the best midsize truck love it
Test drove 1 a couple weeks ago and I was impressed with it off road. Our camp isn't buried in the woods but the trail sucks this time of year.
I'm not sure why the interior hasn't been updated in the same fashion as the Pilot. It seems like it would simplify parts and manufacturing for them, but maybe they need to run through some parts inventory first? Either way, from what I've read it might not be until 27 that they do finally make that update. I think they're missing out on sales by drawing these updates out so far.
Probably getting rid of old stock before a 25'/26' refresh
Don't sell well? The did 50k+ units last year
Really?
I remember when I purchased mine, had to drive 8 hours to get because there weren’t any available and 2 other where waiting if I didn’t buy it
I checked again and there’s no 2024 available in my area, I have to drive hours to get one
Just wanted to see, what’s different nowadays and if it drives different
Yeah it outsold Frontier lol
Very good thorough review. Thank you sir!
Why do the review? Every positive thing you have to say is tempered with something negative or quasi-negative. BTW, I bought the new Trailsport a few weeks ago. Absolutely love it. Compared to the Silverado I had before, it’s a much better drive, easier to park, more serviceable… and the list goes on. Oh, and it’s tough looking, too, for the guys that still think it’s not a real truck (ridiculous),
I currently drive a 2011 Subaru Impreza hatchback and have been thinking about getting a Ridgeline Trailsport. I'm looking for that truck that can be a comfortable daily driver from point A to point B and haul my fishing gear + 9.6ft kayak in the bed!
The Trailsport would work well for you, I think. @@stw2186
Traded my Tacoma for the Ridgeline. Best decision!
It totally depends on what your needs are. I just bought a 2024 RLE and really like it so far. For two of us, retired, we could be a one car family. Might sell the Avalon. It really is an SUV with a very useable bed. Tons of storage inside with the backseat folded up and we can still haul our supplies from Home Depot in the bed. Also, a very nice sized trunk under the bed. If you are a serious off-road person or tow a large trailer or camper. No. But if we need to stop and pick up some plants for the garden and some fertilizer on our way home. Perfect!
Fact Check @6:02.. Sport Mode is enabled with the S/D button in center console. I thought you'd mention it when you got there @10:48 but you didn't. Truth be told, I owend a '19 Ridgeline and wife still has her 21 Pilot SE and I think I've only ever toggle "S" mode, once.
It looks nice, but I need a longer bed than that.
8 year old truck, with little tweaks along the way. Meanwhile, the midsize truck market has changed massively. Honda better be working on something, and quick, or this will just be a niche vehicle for many more years
Milking them car molds for all their worth. Very little in terms of change and yet the price hike is substantial. Very disappointing.
If they had 6 foot beds, nicer interior, and a dedicated road package like a factory lift and off road tires. I would buy this over anything else bcuz of that NA V6
So this means that the current owners looking to upgrade to a third generation have to wait until at least model year 2026 which could still be based on a 4 yr Pilot platform since the Passport will be redesigned for 2025 based on a three year old Pilot platform. Maybe Honda will surprise me a comeout with a hybrid Ridgeline before the Pilot, one can dream.
Hate the push button shifter; and why are they using a v6 engine with a timing belt instead of a timing chain...
It’s the old J Series engine it’ll be phased out when they redesign this vehicle in the next few years
@avery3991 hope they get rid of that shifter also. If they can put a decent shifter in the new CRV, why not the Ridgeline... a "TRUCK'!!
@@avery3991 The new V-6 engine which is in the Pilot now has a timing belt as well unfortunately.
Did they actually take out the two USB ports in the back? Not a huge deal but my 2023 has them, I'm confused why they would remove them and leave everything else the same 🤷♂️
I know for sure the Black Edition has them. USB-C.
The trailsport is neutered from a lot of things that came on the RTLE unfortunately
Man the humor of this guy is so fast and quick and dry. It’s just great. Great job my friend!
👍
I guess you don’t like VTEC andthe sport button is with the drive button
Honda dropped the ball, it needs 2-3 inches more ground clearance, like the Subaru Wilderness models!
Why? It's easy to get in and out of.. my sister has a Toyota 4Runner which is an amazing vehicle but you have to climb up into it and I'm not that tall and my head pretty much is on the ceiling
Everybody keeps complaining in this truck has low ground clearance we are in 2024 and nobody has ever heard of a lift kit is everybody back in the 1800s very easy fix lol😅
Ridgeline needs more driver's front leg room and larger footwell. It's the only thing keeping me from buying.
The Ridgeline has the most room in the midsize trucks.
I'm 6'1" with size 12 feet. I've tested Ranger, Canyon, & Tacoma. Clearly, Ridgeline has the least ACTUAL driver's legroom, and its driver's footwell feels more cramped. Otherwise, I LOVE the Ridgeline, but can't buy one ONLY for those two reasons. @@voltecrules624
@@voltecrules624 Nope. You just made that up.
Cant wait till honda makes a real truck.
Outdated interior. Passsssss
They updated the gauges. Also got rid of minivan arm rests in favor of a console.
When will they make it less ugly?
I wouldn't say I like the typeface they chose for the speedometer. This is supposed to be a rugged trailblazer grizzly vehicle, and Honda went with an elegant typeface. It's ugly and doesn't match the rugged theme.
Listen up Honda. I'd consider the Ridgeline if it had a low range. I don't need 4X4 Low more than three to four times a year, but it's still a dealbreaker.
Plus I would like to see an installed brake controller
There is a plug under the dash. You can puck one up for under $100.00 and just plug it in.
@@Woodywoodzzz I agree BUT if your coming from the factory with a “tow package” extra trans and radiator cooling it should absolutely come with a PROPERLY installed brake controller. Yes I’m aware of aftermarket controllers but its just an afterthought, I would be willing to pay an extra $$$ for an installed controller
If you're going to buy a fake truck, buy a Ford Maverick Tremor, performs better 10K less.
Still using the old engine? Honda has stopped innovating.
Kinda like that Toyota 4Runner V6...
@@russelljones2468 Yup and it ended because Toyota finally realized it's too old.
Honda and Toyota have a lot of the same engines for a long time and they refine them whereas Ford Chevy and Dodge offer multiple choices but look at all the issues they have... a friend of mine had a Ford car with a turbo and the engine went out before it reached 40,000 miles😮
Honda is not the same company it was years ago,,,,sad😢
Maverick all the way!!
LOL, your kidding.
To each its own my brotha! I’m not a Honda fan boy, by the way I owned a Ridgline and had the worst experience with it. It was so bad that I’ll never buy a Honda again! Honda don’t come out with fixes or recalls till you get rid of the vehicle, because they don’t fix major issues, like transmission, calipers, suspension issues on 2020 Ridgeline. And yes Maverick all the way!!!😅
Ladies truck
My wife loves her Ridgeline. The F250 was too big for her, she's 5'0", 110lb.
Stupid comment.
You mean jeeps and 4runners... chick vehicles 😂... I have never once seen a woman drive a Ridgeline and I drive for a living
Good truck but awful if you want to go off-road
As this Ridgeline is based entirely on the last pilot, which had many issues that were not addressed, it should be avoided. Hopefully, the new generation will be out before long.
Can you elaborate?
"many issues"???
Huh? What issues?
He’s referring to the transmission issues it had back in 2019-2020. The 2021-current is fine. They improved all the issues. This thing is bullet proof.
Car trying to be a truck(crossover pickup)
What makes a truck a truck? Apparently it’s not a bed for you. 🤷🏼♂️
So what should the cyber truck be considered then?
Well…a pickup IS a truck so you contradicted yourself. Stop parroting 🦜the ego driven crowd.
Body on frame makes a truck not the bed. Big rigs don't have bed, that's a truck. Putting beds on the back of a car does not make it a truck. Ridgeline is a crossover with a bed.
Body-on-frame == truck is a silly and not universally accepted definition of a truck. That would make the Toyota forerunner and Lexus gx trucks.
I also didn't understand the anti-transmission meltdown exhibited in the review. Very weird.
"if you have a subaru you can do all the stuff you can with the ridgeline"........ Hmm, I have had both for long periods of time and I disagree. I couldn't pull as much in my subaru, and off road and in the snow the Ridgeline was light years better. I don't even see how you can compare the two. Im on my third ridgeline and its the best vehicle I have had. There is nothing like it on the market and the Maverick and the Santa Cruz are weak in comparison......Also, you claimed there are no USB ports in the back of the transport (backseat area), mine has them....(Factcheck)
