How Ultimate Team Ruined Madden

  • The Madden NFL games used to be awesome, even comparable with the great NFL 2K5. The Ultimate Team, or MUT, came and ruined everything. Because of how profitable underage gambling is, EA stopped paying attention to the rest of the game, which is why it's in the state it's in now. That, and the exclusive license with the NFL. Ugh. Franchise mode will likely never be good again. Madden NFL 20 sucks

Another major issue is how the top 100 players in every mode are filled with dc glitchers. Guys with hundreds of wins, no losses and not a single td or point scored. Ea refuses to ban them or do anything, and you can watch their stats go up every week. My first time back on madden in years and I swear I am never buying another madden as long as I live ✌️(from a legitimate top 100 player). I hope ea goes bankrupt

    My Ultimate Team experience:
I’ve been playing Madden 20 on and off since its release. It’s been alright. Frustrating at times but also very fun at times. I start getting back into football in general, watching more NFL and getting into the new XFL. I began watching old highlights of Bo Jackson and Marshawn Lynch and Deion Sanders and my other favorite explosive players. I decided I wanted to see if I could play with those guys in Madden through the only mode I could: Ultimate Team. I played a few challenges, got a few free players, etc etc. Eventually, I start a head to head game and get ready to play my first online opponent. My team is 75 overall since I just started. So I get everything going, game loads up, and it shows the top 3 players on each team. I’ve got a 90 overall Kyler Murray and a couple 90 overall DEs from the early challenges. He has a 98 overall Michael Vick, 99 overall Lawrence Taylor, and 99 overall Eric Dickerson. First play of the game, I kickoff. He gets up to about the 30 before I hit him. He shoves my tackler to the ground, reverses across the whole field, and scored a TD. He kicks off. I return the ball from his kickoff, and my returner fumbles it when he’s hit. The guy returns in for a TD and then runs a fake PAT for 2. Next drive, I don’t fumble, and I manage to get a respectable drive down the field by throwing quick passes since all he does is blitz (which still works half the time since Lawrence Taylor just breaks through the line and hits my QB before he throws to the receiver I’ve been holding the button for since I snapped it). So I get into range of a 40ish yard field goal. Decent kick accuracy, but my kicker sucks and shanks it. He returns it for a TD after breaking another tackle. At this point I’m down 22-0 and it’s been 2 minutes. I get the ball again, get a decent drive to about midfield, and have to punt. Not caring at this point, I run a fake punt for 17 yards. Surprisingly, I have enough time to get the throw off. I even get a good throw right into the hands of a wide open receiver across the first down line. But he just drops it. No contact or anything, he just drops it. So he has the ball, he runs a run play, and I get my first tackle. That’s pretty hype. So then, he starts using jukes with his 99 overall Eric Dickerson and breaking tackles and my guys are just bouncing off of him. Now he just starts being a tool and diving every time he had an open TD. As soon as he starts lining up to take a knee every play (in the first half), I quit. I’m not going back. And that’s my Ultimate Team experience.

We didn't play madden together much because he *only* played ultimate team, and I never did. One time he convinced me to start one and play him, and all of his players were either hall of famers, or current superstars. I asked him if he was spending money on it, and I swear to god, he said "Nah not real money, just microsoft points". Completely serious, not joking at all. I definitely agree with just about every point the thing is though tha really dropped the quality of Madden imo is the "community" Over the last 5 years in games not just Madden there has been a change in playstyle for gamers and it's the super try hard "do anything to win" mentality. When being a gamer was considered uncool or nerdy it seemed like everyone was just playing for fun and playing carefree but now no matter the game you have people playing like their lives depend on it and they're actually stressed out playing. I suppose that does play a lot into having a reward system in just about every game for being the "best". Great video btw.

New Madden, FIFA, etc videogames are what happened when people who don't like the actual real game, create the videogame.
You can expect girls, nerds, people that never in their lives touched a sports ball.
This is because since head, to lower code programmers, they don't love, they don't like Football.
Just look at their game Engine Frostbite, it was made for a war videogame (Battlefield) and not for a sports videogame. It certainly looks good, but lacks of all physics, deep and speed that a good sports game needs.
They only are there (at EA) to earn money, a nasty amount of dirty money.
Ultimate Team mode it's like a children drug, a bad habbit, or an addiction worse than junk food, alcohol or smokes... Why?
Because you need to paid $300 for a current gen game Console, then $60 bucks for the actual Madden videogame, then micro-tran$action$ (that are unlimited in the amount you can $pend) on virtual, non-value game cards, and then you have to paid the Electric bill (monthly)...
Sum all of that! It's like spending on drugs or alcohol, an addiction with no benefit.
Why? 'cause you don't get any gamer progression (like in the e-sports). Your gamer value it's going to be proportional to the amount of real money ($$$) you spend on virtual cards.
So, people attack modern videogames for being bloody, for their violence and even for their lack of feminism on it (WTF!), but nobody cares for sports videogames, their fall from grace and deepness, and specially, I don't see moms, or feminist associstions, or even the videogames journalist talking about the crime EA it's making while robbing with their Ultimate Teams game mode, the bad addiction it creates in children and finally, how EA it's destroying the videogame industry from inside.
Hope some day, we would have all our voices raised and demand EA and all the videogame industry to raise their standards and create actual good, well value, non bad habbit addictive videogames.
But that it's becoming harder year after year, meanwhile we only hear that videogames created crazy aggresive people, that videogames are misoginist, that videogames are for children...
Well, ELECTRONIC ARTS took $800 million USD from their children customers pockects last year (at least), and that only from micro transactions, sum $60 bucks per game sold... And that sirs, isn't a child's game.

Madden is slowly resembling a mobile game more and more instead of an in depth football game/simulator that it should be. Thanks for trying to make people more aware of that. We need more people to speak up so we might start seeing some real good changes.

I started on Madden 13 for Xbox 360 but used to play the old NCAA games on my PS2. I’m a big Notre Dame fan and the 2008 NCAA game is by far my favorite ever football game. If only I hadn’t broken that machine. I’d still be playing that game.

I agree to an extent. You can’t deny that at least this year, Madden got a lot better. A lot of new additions, namely the superstar abilities that have brought an entire new side to franchise mode

It ruined NHL too. The craziest thing is that it would be an awesome game mode if done in a real way instead of being a scam. Instead you grind for a few days until you realize it's unplayable or you are a chump and pay a huge amount of cash to play it. The widdling down of other game modes is completely unnecessary without the idea of trying to push it too. I remember playing the shit out of NHL12 because I would play the Online Team mode where you pick a position. Now they turned it into some weirdo, team club mode that ruins the ability to just go in and play a game at whatever position you want.

The thing I hate about the state of gaming today is that it was always understood that the cheap or free games are the ones you “paid to win” on and the games you paid $60 for to use on a console was all skill. Why pay top dollar for a game where the $60 only buys a fraction of the games possibilities?

I also hate the direction Madden has gone in with MUT a primary focus but I feel MUT has uses within Franchise Mode that EA has not tapped into yet. If you own Elway, Marino & Kelly cards, having the option to import them into a Custom Draft Class is a big plus IMO. Placing them on current teams in the main menu then starting Franchise Mode, IE Ray Lewis & Ed Reed on the current Ravens, if you own a Vick MUT card, put him on the Bengals and see how the QB duel of Lamar vs Vick plays out inside your Franchise Mode.
Now the issue comes with MUT coins and real money being used to buy them. If MUT coins could be earned within Franchise Mode(IE winning a Super Bowl gets you 100 coins) then people have incentive to play Franchise Mode to get coins and now people don't have to use real money to buy MUT cards and can play another mode within Madden to earn them. The result? MUT crowd is playing Franchise and Franchise players are buying cards to use legend players/coaches to enhance their franchise experience. It's a win-win situation for EA but for some reason they don't do this.

In terms of the last 15 years worth of madden games I played I say there are 4 era's since madden 06 (06 being the oldest madden I played a lot)
Madden 06-11 is the revolution era: in these madden's there something called madden cards. They are boost that you can unlock by opening packs with points. They were no microtransactions back then so you earned the points by playing the game. The boost may be like WR'S have a plus 3 catching or the CPU can not intercept passes. Then there was superstar mode which got better in madden 09 with the addition of supersim. The gameplay was also very arcade like. It had an elite creation mode. And extremely deep franchise mode. And other features like fantasy mode where you draft your own team and go through challenges or the mini games mode. The was even online head to head.
Madden 12-25 the transition era. Here is where we saw the decline and end of superstar mode. The gameplay became more of a realistic game. Franchise mode got many changes mainly features being removed and was the end of the create a team create a fan and create of play/playbook. And of course the addition of MUT.
Madden 15-19 the new era: the xbox one and playstation 4 burst on the scene and with it came many new things with madden. MUT became a complete power house and of course the addition of MUT draft. There is no more career mode and online became a even bigger focus. The gameplay was completely a sim type but u can turn on arcade mode. Microtransactions become a focus. Making sharing and downloading rosters becoming a staple of offline and franchise play. And the addition of long shot. Long shot is basically a campaign mode but not a career mode like we all hoped it may be.
Madden 20- to be determined the next chapter: we are only one year into this era but it is easy to see the change of focus and have a good idea where this era is heading. We got the addition of X-FACTOR. X-FACTOR is some what similar to madden cards but it is fairly easy to unlock and instead of a team boost it is a player boost. The franchise mode is getting a slow overhaul with the additions of a scenario engine and 5th year option. The worst version of MUT and of course face of the franchise aka a career mode. The mode is extremely bare bones and dry but it has been the first year of it.

  • @jeremiahschumacher7943

And I used to love the superstar mode. The worst part was they created the Longshot story and when people didn't like the effort they put in because it sucked EA was like "whelp guess superstar mode isn't what the fans want." Yeah, I totally understand this frustration. I only buy Madden now to play franchise mode which receives only nominal improvements each year. The biggest issue for me with the past 4 Maddens has been how the "updated" physics engines do not create a fair game. It's a completely random chance whether a fumble or interception happens, and those are game-changing events that should rely on skill and very little randomness. The introduction of simulation surprised me, and when I compared it to competitive I didn't see much difference. The game has changed, and not for the better.

I don't play EA titles anymore. They ruined Battlefield, they ruined Madden, they ruined Crysis and others. I wish somebody would release a single non annualized sports title per console generation, continuously improve it and add features over time and sell new seasons as expansion packs, each with their own new stars and storylines that directly impact how franchise mode plays out. Kind of like how you can buy new campaigns as expansions in other game genres.

This is the most lit 🔥 video and I've been saying the same thing for years. Someone at EA said something like "fixing franchise isn't that easy, neither is making video games."
My response was, and is true, "I worked for and still work in the software industry. You COULD FIX FRANCHISE, but you won't because all projects in a development cycle get assigned resources (# of Devs), priority level, and number of hours to work on it. Thus why we have no franchise mode. Madden only cares about MUT Revenue and it shows.
They bought their exclusive rights deal with the NFL eliminating competition and thus we are stuck with this crap.

The Madden simulation monopoly means there are no NFL sims. Madden should be considered arcade since the sim mode isn’t even a priority. 2K, Sony, etc should get a stab at making a true sim.
