    With any Toyota or Lexus good luck getting what you want. They build the models they want, and the options that come with it. If you want a specific build with only certain options, expect to wait a LONG time or never get it.

      @foxlake6750 I was looking at a venza last year and there was a markup and I had to get on a wait list. I could barely choose a color and I could only pick my preferred colors and either a limited or xle. Anything else I wanted, trailer, door guards, etc.. I could not pick.
      It was just as bad for a lexus. When I couldn't get a venza I looked at getting a rx350h and it was just as bad. I have to hope it had the options I wanted at the trim level and color I wanted.
      In the past I bought a bmw x3 and they made that to order and I had to wait like 2 to 3 months. I was hoping lexus would be the same but nope.
      I ended up getting a fully decked out Subaru Outback touring xt with the options and color I wanted, made to order within 2 months.

    +1 for the All Weather Tire suggestion. I bought a set for my Venza when I bought it since I didn't want the hassle and expense of an extra set of wheels, tires and sensors. Bought some Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires which seemed be have the best winter rating of several that are tested. Many more have been released in the last few years too. My suggestion is to check various reviews and stick to a name brand (Michelin, Toyo, Goodyear, Bridgestone, etc). Don't go with off brand or obscure brands as they often suffer poorly in various aspects (good winter, poor summer/wet performance for example). A great resource on YT is "Tyre Reviews" out of the UK. They do a great job and have really informative videos. Please note, "all-season" tires in Europe are what we call "all weather" tires. Our "all season" tires are basically just "summer tires" over there (which is really what they are here too).

Two weeks after being home we get a bill from the rental for 'fender damage'....good job we had that written record. After replying to the company providing a copy of the written record the repair charges were dropped. Lesson learned ... make sure you get a written record before driving off and don't take their word for it.

After that, it can get hard to find parts and then it doesn't matter how well maintained it is, it's just not practical as a daily driver.

    With appropriate maintenance and easy driving, most cars will last a lot longer than people realize. My '98 Subaru Outback has just turned over 346,008 kms... about 215,000 miles. It had the timing belt and a valve job/head gasket at 280,000kms and other than tires, alternator, battery, tie rod ends and an exhaust system, it's still running, seemingly perfectly. I know a lot of people get bored with their cars, and become reluctant to spend money to do the needed servicing. So they move on into an endless merry go round of debt servicing.

    We've been on a wait list for an NX450h since Spring, 2022 and doubt that we'll ever get one. The salesman has occasionally called offering us an NX gas or non-plugin hybrid but always at a silly high price over MSRP and never equipped like we want. I don't consider the Toyota RAV4 Prime to be a suitable substitute due to it missing safety and convenience features that can be had on the NX450h. The main important feature missing from the RAV4 Prime is headlight beam leveling which can be had on the NX450h. I'm done buying vehicles that have their headlights lighting the tree tops and blinding oncoming drivers when they're carrying a full passenger and luggage load. Even our 12 year old Toyota Prius that the NX450h would have replaced has automatically leveling LED headlights.

Washington State requires winter tires and AWD for driving on Interstate 90 through the Cascades to get to Seattle when snowing. Do All Weather tires qualify?

    • @H2SO4H20
      @H2SO4H20 Před 23 dny

      The Micheline Cross Climate 2 all weather tires have the mountain/snowflake symbol on their sidewalls but I don't think they should. I used them on a FWD Toyota Sienna except in winter when I used Bridgestone Blizzak WS90. I tried driving on the Cross Climate 2 during a late season snow storm (after I had done the switchover) and found that they performed substantially poorer than the Blizzaks which were just plain wonderful. Plus, the Cross Climate 2 had poor directional stability on dry roads requiring constant steering corrections that were not necessary when on regular all season tires or the Blizzaks. I'm guessing that was because the Cross Climate 2 had an extraordinarily narrow tread - almost an inch narrower than the Blizzaks which were already narrower than most all-season tires. And the Cross Climate 2 tread wore quickly - only a little better than the Blizzaks and far worse than typical all-season tires. Maybe the Cross Climate 2 would have worked better on other vehicle types. My Toyota Sienna Limited was a heavy thing weighing around 4,700 pounds. I doubt that I'll ever buy all weather tires again. Currently have all-season tires and winter tires on their own wheels for the vehicles we now have.

    Nokian all-weather tires were on the Accord I bought second hand in 2010. Maybe other mfgers are catching up to the idea. I was sold on the Nokians after having to replace them but went with something else and then noticing how much poorer they were to grip in winter.
