    Best comparison of a Toyota compared to a Lexus I've seen. It was full of pertinent information on how you and your husband use your respective cars and how they compare and contrast in the way most of us would use them. Bravo.

    I wanted an NX (hybrid) but couldn't quite afford it. Went with a RAV4 hybrid and haven't been disappointed -- it's an impressive vehicle (especially in terms of solidity and refinement) in its own right.

      I 10000% agree!! The Rav is an absolutely amazing car and not just for the money but in general! And again you got more than less of the NX experience without spending anywhere near NX money so that’s a huge win too, IMO.

    The best comparison video I have watched so far. Nothing beats real life experience. You have to use cars as a daily driver to really be able to tell what the deal is.
    I have a 2021 RAV4 hybrid awd which I’m very pleased about. We are a family of three and it’s just the perfect size. Anything smaller would be not enough anything larger is a nuisance when you have to drive into town especially since were living in Germany where everything from parking to roads is smaller.
    The only problem I have is that here in Germany the RAV4 is not a very good value because it is insanely priced.
    And mine is a special model called Black Edition, which means it has everything that is usually silver or unpainted plastic is painted in the same special black with glitter in it, then the rest of the car. The undercarriage parts of the bumper, the back and everything else and it has special 19 inch alloy wheels, which no other RAV4 model in Germany has.
    So mine is not fully loaded. It lacks the sunroof, the heated rear seats, the memory function for the driver seat for example and it still did cost €53,000. A fully loaded Prime would’ve cost €70,000.
    You are very lucky with the prices you’re paying for Toyota and Lexus vehicles 😮😊

      Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words and you for watching! And oh my gosh at the price of a Rav4 in Germany!! I’m a big fan of German cars, I have to say. You can’t beat Toyotas for hybrids but I hope the I’ll be able to get an Audi or Porsche in the next few years when the economy looks better! ;)

    Hands down, this is the best car review video I've ever watched (and I've watched hundreds). Your commentary was concise and engaging, and very relevant. I currently own a Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV, and for the most part I love it. However, I HATE road/wind noise and I want to buy a vehicle that minimizes both, as much as possible. I had been looking at the NX hybrid, but based on your review, I don't know if the cabin is going to be quiet enough for me. Thanks for the info!

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thank you so much for such a kind comment! And yes, I would say you might want to check out the NX PHEV. It’s going to be much more refined than the NX hybrid (also considerably more expensive, though). I ended up flipping the NX in this video for a final year V8 Lexus GX which is like a bank vault or limousine on the road. It gets 1/3 the fuel economy of the NX, but… oh well.

    • @groussac
      @groussac Před 7 měsíci

      @@joshjamescars So I guess you're saying that the GX is quiet on the freeway. That appeals to me. Noise wise, my '09 CRV compares to the RAV 4 you showed us, but I would like a quieter ride during acceleration. If it were just me, I'd go for an electric something or other just for the quiet, but the wife is concerned about getting fried alive if it catches on fire. Impossible to check all the boxes...

    This was the PERFECT review of both vehicles. I have widdled my choices down to the RAV 4 hybrid and the NX 350 hyrbid. So many benefits of both. MPG is almost the same if you check the website fuelly. One thing that is different is the AIR suspension on the NX vs SPRING on Rav 4. That will make the NX more comfortable ride.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thank you! Have you looked at the Venza? It splits the difference between the two and is essentially a more posh RAV4 hybrid. Also, I do not recommend the new RX hybrid (I assume that’s what you were referring to). It shares the same engine as the NX350h, Rav, and Venza, and is slow and loud. I appreciate your side by side comparison in that I’m in the market for a Rav4 but didn’t know whether a Lexus was worth so much more. I became able to make a more informed decision about what really matters to me most between the two cars. I’ve known a Lexus is an upscaled Toyota and this video helped me to understand I wouldn’t miss anything by buying a Rav4 as I plan to m. It’s definitely more economical.

Liked especially your list “what’s the same?” and that kind of a list (positives & negatives) could be great in your concluding remarks as well. Last week bought RX450h F-Sport (2021, 24000 miles) and NX 300h (2021, 8000 miles) for selling but will get to drive for a weeks (or months) before they move to their new owners.

      I’ve had mine since mid Nov 2022 and
      I love it. It’s eerily silent in EV mode around town. Highway noise is very low as well.
      You get some wind rush, but it’s not really loud. The car tames the noises very well. I think the noise issues people have are with those run-flat tires. When I had them on over 4 months the ride was compliant, but at times more stiff than what I was used to in a Lexus. Also, road noise varied by surface. It was there in the background, but not as muted as with the Michelins. I got Michelin CrossClimate 2’s.
      I will say the Michelin tires make a big difference vs the run-flats.
      I assume no pano roof as that’s too much added weight?
      I use EV mode around town which is 98% of the time and only use gas if I put the NX into (HV)hybrid mode or if I venture out of town.
      Like any Lexus/Toyota the transitions are seamless and smooth. You can’t really feel it switching over.
      I test drove the RZ luxury in town and out on the highway. It’s a very similar(almost an exact copy) of my vehicle going 55-60mph. Smooth and quiet. Very tranquil. Just the RZ is a pure EV with not much range.
      I’m not sure about the ML. If they will decide to add that or not. That wasn’t a deal breaker for me. I’ve had ML in other Lexus cars I’ve had and it’s ok. I don’t always have music on

I believe, though I might be wrong, in Canada the trims we get on Toyotas are packages and the Lexus packages we get are trims. And from others who have commented, your “luxury” trim on the NX is more or less our “premium” package since you have the executive trim above that (I think).
      So absolutely can and will do but I’m sure I’ll get things wrong. 😅

      Hello! Thank you so much and for coming back to watch! Insurance is a hard question to answer because soooo many other factors impact that (location, credit score, driving record, mileage, garage or not, how many cars on the policy, etc.) and so even if it’s a 5% difference that could be $5 or $50 depending on everything else.
      HOWEVER, for us, with good driving records, excellent credit, living in a safe neighborhood with a locked garage and having 3 cars on a policy, etc. there’s very little difference.

    I’ve been looking for a new car for a couple of months, and I narrowed it down to the Lexus NX and the Kia, EV six, although I only recently eliminated the Toyota RAV4 Prime. This was an awesome, awesome video that made me think long and hard about what I’m going to do, and the Toyota RAV4 Prime is now back in the mix.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thank you! I think both your options are great but definitely do your homework on EV depreciation… technology is changing so rapidly (plus EVs aren’t selling to begin with) if you intend to purchase and not lease the car, you might find after 5 years it’s not worth much at all. The Rav and NX, on the other hand, will hold their value well even over time. On the flip side, you’ll be waiting a long while for a Rav Prime but if the EV6 is like the IONIQ5, there are probably a ton just sitting around on dealer lots waiting for a buyer.

    Great comparison !! Here in Mexico I was between buying the RAV4 Hybrid Limited and the CRV, but at the end decided for the RAV4 because at least here the RAV4 Hybrid Limited is about the same price as the CRV initial trim and around 5-10 k less than the CRV top trim (not hybrid since CRV hybrid is not sold in Mexico)

      @joshjamescars  Před rokem +2

      Wow! I had no idea that was the case there!! Absolutely Rav4 in that case! I’ve heard that the pricing on the CR-V in Canada is way off base too (way too expensive). I was looking at the CR-V before buying my NX and it’s decently priced here but missing all kinds of nice features that even the Rav4 gets, unfortunately.

    We bought a Toyota Crown and Grand Highlander within two weeks of each other in March. One is for my spouse and the grand for get togethers with family so we all can be together during commutes when family is visiting. The Crown hybrid is about 39 mpg. The Grand, 36 mpg. I then wanted to get my long commute car with good mpg but also a quiet cabin cuz there are times I'm conducting business in the car with 4 hours a day. The RAV prime was perfect for economy and good mpg. But the car seems unsteady (important driving in snowstorms for essential personnel like me). It was also way too loud. But I confess that I still wish the RAV worked out. I love the look of it. However, the CRV beats it in everyway except for design. So i opted out of those two reliable, economy cars. Since I now have a Grand Highlander and Crown, both have great sound insulation and premium interiors, it was difficult to get use to the RAV. Lexus for me.

    Hello! Your video is the BEST I've ever watched. Easy to listen to and so informative. Thank you for taking the time to put this out for people.
    I've been looking at these two cars for a long time. I've had a 2011 Lexus RX 350 and it's time for safety features etc. Can you speak to the ease of using the infotainment system in both cars? I'm an older driver and want ease (as well as all safety features.). Also, in Los Angeles, the dealers are marking up the Rav4 Hybrid (higher trim levels) to outrageous levels. I'm leaning toward the Lexus NX 350h for this reason.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hello! You are so very kind, thank you! I’m glad it was helpful and enjoyable! I think if you’re coming from an RX, you should definitely consider the NX. The Rav is a great car, but I think the NX is going to give you the more premium experience you’re used to. Hybrids drive a little differently than the 3.5 V6 that you have now, but the fuel economy is terrific. As for the infotainment, you’re going to get the latest and greatest in the NX. I do wish there were more physical buttons but I think it’s easy and intuitive enough to learn and use over time. But it’s worth going to the dealer and playing with it in a new NX, RX, or RZ (same system and controls in all 3 cars). The Rav’s interior and infotainment as a whole is starting to feel dated as it goes back to 2019 when the Rav came out. The upside there is you do have physical climate controls, but I’d take the Lexus’ interior over the Rav’s for everything else. The NX will definitely feel more modern for much longer. It also gets the newer Toyota/Lexus safety sense 3.0 system which is one of the best if not the best on the market. Lane keep and adaptive cruise control work beautifully and are far more nuanced than on the 2.5 system found in the RAV4. And of course, like you said, it’s ridiculous to pay anything above MSRP on a Rav4.

    Hi, I’m leaning towards the NX 350H is it true that you have to drive the car every day to keep it charged? The car will be driven a few times a week only or would it be best to get the gas model only

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před rokem +2

      Hello! It’s not necessarily true but that’s also not how regular hybrids work. You can drive it anytime and the battery doesn’t need to ever be charged, it’s charging and discharging all the time as you drive it. No need to do anything special, drive it as you would any other car. I highly recommend the hybrid over the gas model, I don’t care for Toyota’s new turbo engines at all.

    Hi, thanks so much for this video. I had a question, what’s the difference in cost of maintenance (changing oil/tires/etc) and insurance coverage between the two? I’d love to get the Lexus but concerned it may have a higher cost at the mechanic given it’s considered a luxury car. Thanks for your time.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před rokem +3

      It’s really hard to give you a figure on that because there are soooo many factors at play.
      Insurance is all dependent upon your area, your driving record, your credit score, and more; but I’ll say that it’s under $75/month for me BUT we have 3 cars all on the same plan which makes things cheaper just like a family phone plan. Most insurance companies will also let you run a quote if you can get a VIN for an NX which you could probably get from a dealer.
      Maintenance all depends on how and how much you drive and whether you have a Lexus dealer who prices things fairly or if they Jack up their rate because they think they’re a luxury car brand and thus can charge the same labor rates as Mercedes/Audi/BMW for maintenance. That said, Toyota will give you two years of free oil changes.
      You can also put cheap tires on either car (though I wouldn’t recommend it) so tire cost is entirely dependent on what you’re willing to pay for.
      By and large, I don’t think it’s that big a difference (not like one will be tens of thousands more) but because so much depends on your locale, dealers, and driving needs its hard to say.
