The SCAR is my dream gun. It’s just a perfect gun for me. Period. It is accurate, light, and fires a round you can find everywhere. The first chance I have to purchase it, I’m going all in.

When I need info on a weapon, I come to your channel. Thank you so much Mr. Hickok and son. Bought the DP-12!
I'll never sell my SCAR. It's too darned reliable.
still is? just asking?
I heard somebody say it's the best self defense rifle for civilian use. Stopping power with versatility, not the best cqb, but very good for everything else.
@@savagegtalks5912 best self defense rifle for a civilian?! LOL
@@wademichalski768 I quoted somebody... u disagree with me? 😂
I got no opinion, it was a quote from somebody 😂😂
I got no experience with guns, but whatever the SCAR 17 did to you, I feel for you dude 😂😂😂
@@savagegtalks5912 Who ever youre quoting might be retarded!
@@savagegtalks5912 it’s in my personal opinion the best modern battle rifle in circulation now that they’ve incorporated a non reciprocating charging handle. It’s a piston driven rifle and that THEORETICALLY affords it some level of reliability over a direct impingement gas system common in most AR’s. Most of the adverse environment tests I’ve read and been shown don’t agree that it’s better but as good. What is nice is the gas block on a scar is adjustable and exposed meaning you can suppress it more comfortably (but the second you throw a can on a scar you violate FN’s service use agreement and this violates your warranty with them). Suppressing 5.56 is inherently difficult as it is a naturally supersonic round, meaning there are always pops of sound as the bullet breaks the sound barrier apart from the actual exploding at the tip of the barrel you can have a “pop” from the opened gas piston port, but this helps direct gas away from the users face. Better for CQB? That doesn’t mean anything. A 16” barrel on anything makes maneuvering through doors more difficult, but just as you can cut an AR barrel so too can you cut a SCAR barrel. Some camps will argue that 7.62 NATO offers better ballistics from a shorter barrel than 5.56 making it better for CQB as it can also extend further; but 5.56 definitely works from short barrels, and if you’re arguing what the calibers do to soft tissue I think its semantics, one turns the target to hamburger, the other to paste. There’s also the issue with scar receiver harmonics. FN should be building airplanes, cause the recoil reduction for the 17s is magic, but it causes the upper receiver to vibrate in such a way it will literally tear apart and break cheap optics.
In summary: the “best civilian rifle for self defense” is honestly any modern semi auto, modern cartridge rifle that YOU as the end user can operate comfortably and effectively, which has more to do with YOU than your gun. A SCAR is like $3k plus at least a $1k optic, whereas you can build a fully kitted high end AR for $2.8k. Leaving you with left overs money to buy brass and training (which are the best accessory for any rifle). Black tipped 7.62 will defeat body armor better than green tip 5.56. IMO the SCAR is the best rifle in the world at the moment, but that’s honestly just splitting hairs about it’s “effectiveness.”
I really like seeing the father and son perspective. I hope you'll continue that in future.
It's a staple with all the "Revisits."

Thank you for the Slo-Mo at the end of the video! I was really missing those! Great video guys, Later...
I have one and I love it!! It is my life and liberty firearm, reliable as any or AK, so far ahead of the AR platform or anything else.
Man it's such a beautiful gun would love to have one some day. With that being said I first actually saw it playing a game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R and the guys who did the sound did a fantastic job of recreating its sound. Volume and everything!
I loved that "see through scope" camera shot :3
Great video Hickok. I love The NF SCAR 17. It's an amazing rifle. An love your channel an videos. Been watching for years. Very educational an entertaining...
Appreciate you watching.
Man, that thing makes some noise.
Emanuel Dimitriu or even a rifle.
A loud one.
Nothing is as loud as an SBS. Might want to double up if you ever shoot one.
Mark McLaughlin it sounds Belgian
I have four SCARs two 16s and two 17s. I also have 10 or 11 (not sure) ARs. The SCARs are no louder than an AR-15 or AR-10 with a similar type of compensator on them. You can change the muzzle device on the SCAR, but a better option would be to grow some nuts or get a can if you live in a free state. Sorry, whining always makes me cranky.

Thank you for the videos hickok45. I like your channel and the SCAR.
Wow a delta seal ranger in person
We civilians need these excellent rifles as well not just the military.
The Scar 17/16 is always getting bad comments/reviews because of its msrp. But if look on GB you can score these rifles all day long for $2400 brand new. There is lots of guns out there that cost $2k + that don't get anywhere near the flack the Scar gets...These same people that complain about the price are usually the ones that go out and spend $2,000 on a LWRC AR15
adam briar the REPR, Scar and HK 762 were all within $200 of each other 4 years ago when I bought mine. Now REPRs and HK's are even MORE expensive
Because people know the SCAR is just a new shinny plastic gun that does something that others do better. MSRP just adding salt to a wound.
I was literally just looking at one of these last night. I would love to have one
Mr Hickock you are one bad ass dude love couch watching over your shoulder. Thanks for the ride .I dig it. Keep it up as long as you can .
Heavier AR10's may not recoil a lot, but this rifle is made to ruck up mountains and carry for days at a time. Weight to firepower ratio and durability is the driving force with this system.
It's already been five year since you got the SCAR? Damn, time sure moves fast.
It really does. I sometimes forget how many hundreds of firearms have passed through my hands, many of which you've seen in videos. I owe a lot to all of you folks for helping build a large enough audience that all this could take place. Wherever it goes from here, it's been a pleasurable and unique experience that I'll always be grateful for.

@@altonasasquatch9745 yeah I love this thing. It’s my favorite rifle for sure.
What a beautiful piece of work.
I have one and I love it! Sure it is a pricer option but if you can muster the funds, it is great.
I love my scar 17 ive done a good bit of upgrades on it. ive changed the lower to accept PMAGS, changed the folding stock to a NON-collapsible made by vltor. (SCAR) Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle.
If you guys can get a Hudson H9 to shoot it would be amazing to see. The platform that handgun is based on is so unique. Keep up the great work!
The FN SCAR (Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle) is a gas-operated (short-stroke gas piston) self-loading rifle with a rotating bolt.
I love my Scar 17s, converted it to Pmags really fast for commonality with my LWRC Repr. I got it for $2,700 in 2015.
I love this rifle. I know it gets a bad rap and it's super expensive, but I love it. Totally worth the price.
Special Operations Combat Assault Rifle. Love it. Being used by 1/75 Rangers and it's in most special forces unit armories. They also have uppers chambered in 5.56 that they can switch out back and forth as needed.
Just got the 17S black Ugg boot, I mean SCAR. Fabulous rifle. Have not shot it yet. Been taking it apart and reassembling it to get familiar with it. Have to wait until the snow melts in the outdoor range.
Took it out to shoot and it shoots soft like a 5.56. I also have a Springfield M1A so I have shot semi auto .308. The SCAR shoots so much softer. The ergonomics is head and shoulders above the M1A. I love it and it is the newer non reciprocating charging handle. Easy to clean. Easy to disassemble. Thr stock folds to be a para rifle and can shoot with it folded. It has picatinny rails on four sides and I have installed a verticle Magpul forward grip and can take a Streamlight TLR 1 light.
This and my FN FNX are my SHTF load out gear. In the FN SCAR website, SCAR is an acronym for Special Operations Combat Assault Rifle. They made it at the request fir US SOCOM for a possible replacement for thr M4 and M14. SOCOM decided that th4 SCAR 16 (5.56) while improved on thr M4, was not improved enough to justify entire replacement. But SOCOM accepted the 17 (7.62x51) for a designated marksman or heavy rifle fire.
Would love to see videos on the MAS-36 and MAS-49/56!
Yep, I'm definitely moving to the states when I'm older.
Wait another year.
That there is my go to war rifle. ACOG yes, but the lower receiver on mine is custom to accept MagPul mags, and I replaced the flash hider/muzzle break with and AWC break to run a suppressor.
Oh boy how his range has transformed over the years:)
I would love to see a review of the Noreen BN36 Long Range Assassin in .30-06!

Best of luck on the auction.... now that you've given some convincing reasons why some other rifles are more desirable! But I'm with you on that, I love my Fulton Armory M14-ish rifle and I have a lower market AR-10 type rifle that suits my needs. As a wood and steel guy that M14 just hooks me, even if it isn't tacticool.
Nice pice! Thanks for your effort, man!
I'd love to see you shoot an automatic one!
In gneral I wouldlike to see you shoot some more of that fully auto stuf!!!))))
I agree that the stock seems flimsy, however I have never see a picture of a broken scar stock, ever. If somebody has one please share it. I've got a 17s and I removed the PWS brake that comes on it and replaced with a flash hider. It's still the softest shooting 308 I've ever shot. Really light weight! But it probably isn't the best choice if you're only going to have one 308.
Why not?
@ There's the other Hickok video where it goes head to head against improved military M14 and Hickok prefers the SCAR for rapid firing. But then at the end here he says he'd rather fire M14...maybe I would, too, just cuz it's Garand-derived. I'm not going to war, either, would be more about the history.
Man it would be nice to be able to dump 308s like that
Trey From Fl dump any kind of round for me
The one FAL you tested was a heavy Israeli one. I can tell you that a standard FN FAL or a DSA replica is a joy to handle and shoot. It is as light as an AR and balances perfectly. Give it a try... All the best!
Thanks for your service, John.
Thanks, good review. Just too expensive for me LOL but nice weapon

Interesting you mentioned that you like the LWRC 6.8 (as I am also a LWRC Fan myself). Have you the chance to try out the their R.E.P.R chambered in 308?
I ended up choosing that over the SCAR but would really like to hear your opinion on it.
Idk about cod, but I remember the first game I saw the scar h was in GRAW back in '06
I love the SCARs but there are certainly other good options out there

Love All of your Videos!!!
I've owned mine for about 3 years now. Easily put over a thousand rounds through it. Killed many hogs with it. (Primary reason why I bought it). I absolutely love my rifle. Everyone that shoots it just falls in love with it, except the bolt. But that's about it.
You should upload a video of you hunting hogs with your scar!
Wish I could afford one, I shot a friends scar 17 and feel in love with it.
I really love watching your videos sir, wish you more success sir.
I have a 17. By far my favorite gun. feels good. the recoil is consistent and predictable to make it very easy to hit your targets. the stock site I really do like . I have 4x and long distance scope and I always find myself taking them and just using the stick site. yeah the stock could be better. I have scene people use the stock from a ACR and it looks even nicer with that stock. Aslo the simplicity of the design makes a breeze to clean and maintain which is a clear indicator of a real battle weapon. AR's and others have to many jams and other issues for me. if I had to go to war that would be my main weapon. 100%

My M1A Scout will be the last to go...
Love my M1A Scout with wood furniture. 😍
I've had my SCAR 17 for 5 years and the stock hasn't broken yet. What am I doing wrong?
You have to butt-stroke boulders at a 30-degree angle offset methinks. Try that. . when you swing roll yer hips ans swivel your shoulders into it proper like and follow through while keeping your eyes looking at the horizon as that helps accurately guide the direction of force in a linear fashion. That might do the trick.
I might have to join you. I've had mine just as long and it absolutely works flawlessly. It never has a stoppage ever, shows no wear worth mentioning, and will likely not need any parts replacements for. . . I dunno, but years and years and years, if ever. I swear as I honestly dont think I'm going to spend the cost of 200,000 rounds worth of 7.62 NATO any time soon through it to wear it out. That part is gonna take some time. Something is probably wrong with mine as well.
You need to operate harder! lol yeah I had mine for two years no issues.
you have to get a bad batch of polymer or a stock button (pre #19000) made before they changed the 90 degree corner to a smooth radius. They always complain about how it feels cheap but ignore the metal tube inside and the fact it beats both the LMT SOPMOD and the M4 stocks in drops as part of its testing.
Justin Williams, You speak wise words. The other factor is that there are aftermarket part making companies that want to sell replacement SCAR stock adapters and stuff, so they fan the Internet BS in order to sell more overpriced SCAR add-ons.
You live in a place thatis too warm, or you don't go out warring on the waterbottles below the freezing point enough.
Serious power, light weight, fit and finish, recoil, accuracy, folding stock, easy field strip, 20 round capacity... its just a really good rifle. The down side are reciprocating charging handle, expense, and availability of magazines. I used one in the military... loved it. Love mine and would buy it again!
