Theo and Bee gave up their busy city lifestyles in 2014 to explore alternative living, and have lived in vans and boats since then without looking back! Along with their cat Ginjey Bear they have been driving around the world in their self converted Sprinter van. However, when the global pandemic hit they began converting their abandoned stone barn in Central Portugal to turn into a wonderful tiny stone cottage. Along the way, they have rescued a playful cat called Furrnando and have a wonderful flock of Chickens!

Don't plan your stairway for the middle. It would be smack dab in the middle of your home and constantly in the way. It only works in that barn because you can't access beyond it.

@@Pilot333 Agreed! And in fact I wish them well, they will be much better once they leave the -soon to be blockaded - UK and grow their own and leave fast-food behind. I bought an abandoned barn 25 years ago in France and renovated it, have never regretted it, and now we're self-sufficient, meaning we can watch the worries of the world go by without stress - I wish them well, there's so much to learn...

On that ladder situation. Picture this…. They ladder just how it is in this barn but with drawers under each step that goes back to the wall. That would be a great storage area that would incorporate both the ladder and all the clothing storage needs you would possibly need.

I’ve been thinking and feeling a lot about setting healthy boundaries lately; I’m really being put to the test and not everyone in my life is ok with this change. Honoring my intuition and connecting to the sense of psychological safety is both challenging and rewarding. I’m feeling really inspired by the boundary Bee is setting re: being/ not being on camera. For me - countering any sense of obligation that I perceive of how I should be etc. is so impactful and important. Empowerment Abounds!!!😘 Jenny

Its v v difficult being stranded. Feeling stranded n nothing left after losing biz n home with it. No gov assistance so was living off savings...n then health was last thing to go!
Money is necessary but root of all evil too! As we see in world around us.
Stick together guys, n look after each other, enjoy MAKING MEMORIES!
One day they will be very precious too one of you and I hope that's in about fifty or sixty years time .

Gingebear I LOVE, SSHHHH...SOIRRY ...I had a beautiful black spoiled loving, v talkative shadow! He never left my side, ..until he had to.
I'm more a dog lover, also was blessed to have had a beautiful retriever for 15 yes!
My late partner, who was only young, same like Theo, didn't want a puppy initially but as we were still only dating at that time, he had little choice!!! Lol !!!
They ended up the BEST of friends. Right to the end!

I appreciate nature same way u guys do n living outdoors I loved here. For a long time this thing has me bed bound but my energy is creeping back...month by month!

Wonderful hearing Bea's sweet voice again. Theo, you are such an amazing husband. Supportive, kind, and kept the boat afloat when Bea needed help. Everyone should be so lucky to have someone like you in their lives.
STAIRS !! Got an idea...saw a couple who live in tiny house, who made stairs to go up into their loft, that has a pulley system that the rope/chain wraps around a hook on the wall. You undue the rope and the stairs come down to floor to walk up. Then when you are not going upstairs, you pull on the pulley and it goes up and you just wrap the rope/chain, around the hook on the wall to keep it up. It looks so beautiful. They made it match the wood in the ceiling. This way it doesn't take up any floor room when you are occupying the main floor. I live in Michigan and love following you two! I gets me out the house and I am in Portugal or wherever you go on your travel, I am on my mini vacation. Thank you for your beautiful Blog. You both are such good people and its so wonderful to be able to hang out with caring & loving people like you two are!
Don’t rush to have Bee start onto film again. Take all the time she needs to not just feel better but until she is excited and craving the time in front of camera. Bee we all love you and want to see you again but we can wait !!!
Theo I have such admiration for you. You are truly a mensch, which is a Yiddish for a truly fine man. You have done such a great job carrying on. I am glad Bee is doing better and look forward to when she returns. My mother was born in Birmingham and immigrated as a child to the U.S.. So if you know any Judd’s there they are probably my relatives.
Whenever I take my kitties to the vet, I put a mini litter pan in the carrier. And a towel in the bottom. Like a little plastic to-go container. Hope this helps next time. I have 4 cats and 2 dogs, so I keep supplies in my car. Happy Birthday, Theo.
Same here, works like a charm. I rather have a larger carrier and so does the cat. On the bottom I use dog diapers.

You could put your stairs along side the wall and make each one a drawer for storage and they would not protrude into the open space.

Bea, it is so good to see you on the mend. Thank you for your willingness to be honest about your illness. The one thing I learned about mental health while I was acutely ill was how others could not see my illness because its not like a broken arm or leg...but as you heal know we are here for you and so happy you are on the mend. We love you both!

Have you thought about connecting your ladder to the mezzanine with
strong hinges? That way you could pull up the stairs when you're not using the loft, saving room in your wee barn to better move around.

Rather than a hinge more like an axel attached to the top and a pulley attached to the bottom to hoist it straight up.
Omg, I dont' think Bee could have found a better inspiration time than that beautiful Barn Airbnb ! I trust that you both will take so much from that to guide your own barn home. I think its taken so long to get it to a place of still-restoration, and so much work on both your parts..you just need to get on with it..get help if you need, and get to the point of making it a home...that's what I think Bee needs :) Taking the time for some day journeys and getaways has obviously rejuvenated both of you, and the fact of being around so much crowds in the cities just reinforces your appreciation for your beloved homestead in Portugal. I am with all, to see sweet Bee, your beautiful face and I for one, have no problem with you not wanting to get back into the immediate vlog facetime voice.....you take our time darlin, and meanwhile, Theo, you are doing a great job of capsilating the journey you both are on, kittiy challenges and all ! I think we are all so excited for you both to get thru these recent challenges, and be able to get back to your beloved land. Keep kitty litter in the trunk. Just toss a cup of it on the poo. Makes it easier to clean up later. In an emergency, use a handful of dirt or sand. Dries it out as well. Cats don't usually make a mess in their own crate. So it's also a good tip not to let them out while traveling.

Theo how beautiful is the Gazebo, the fountain and gardens. I just love the mass planting of annuals/perennials. They look wonderful en masse! The ocean and the barn were gorgeous too. I can see why your inspiration kicked up a few notches again - I think you and Bee will be thrilled to get back home once again. You've both achieved so much and ts been wonderful to have this 'time out' and enjoy a wee holiday at the end too. I Hope that Sweet Bee is feeling much better now and can just continue being kind to herself. Its been a huge year or so for you both, and the body, mind and spirit just need some space to to feel well again.
