- Why has nobody come up with this before?? The REVORING is the answer to constant pain of having lenses and filters which don't fit and having to use the dreaded step up rings!
Order your REVORING here: gopb.co/revoring
This essentially "variable step-up ring" is available to pre-order on Kickstarter for the incredibly cheap price of between $23 and $25. The REVORING with the variable ND and circular polariser costs between $139 and $149.
This video is sponsored by H&Y but as always, I only make sponsored videos for products I really like and use.

The plaintive intro, slow-motion descent accompanied by strings, then the warmly-voiced reassuring solution, and another gem from Philip. You're an artist as well as a great videographer.
Stephen Howe thanks Stephen
How creative can you get with a simple circle?

Thank You Philip, that'll come in handy!
Production quality is amazing, subscribing
Nice editing and great review!
First time for me watching your video's in true 4k on my new 4k ips display, looks great!
Thanks! :)
I try to keep a 77mm adapter on each lens that I use. That way I only have to switch the one filter. It can be sticky sometimes however.
I really love brilliant engineering that makes life a lot easier. Thank you for sharing this.
I haven't yet bought any, but was gonna in the near future, and this definitely is a reasonable product
This looks like a good product......
I love that walk around Richmond....
EXACTLY what I need. And the ringlight is a nice touch :D
So they incorporated the idea of aperture blades into an adapter? How awesome! This seems like a genuinely useful tool 😎
That intro was masterful! 💯
This is what I needed for such a long time.
Happy coincidence, was just researching about variable NDs as my current 77mm will not fit new lens (82mm). Just supported the project via your link, thanks!
brilliant! Love the simplicity. I'm in.
I am litterally seeing the amount of backers go up after this video, very nice!
Watched: I'm buying one!

Awesome video Philip!
dude! Beautiful video!! and audio too! ..all around gorgeous work
Thanks Jack
That's bloody fantastic! Backed!
ahh, 2 days ago I ordered rings and a variable ND :( still gonna go for this regardless, thank you for letting us know!
I've made the purchase a few weeks ago!!! It's a great idea at an excellent price!
Philip - You saved me. Was about to buy more!
Awesome. I just ordered the 46mm-62mm REVORING.
This will be the first kickstarter I will backup. I haven't bought step up rings because I know how disorganized I can be and I knew it was a bad idea to get them. I also knew that one day someone would swoop in and save the day with a modified step up ring.
For many years I'm using only Heliopan brass step-up rings, never had any sticking issue since. The same is true for my B+H filters, also made of brass, although they cost more than the aluminum ones, the extra cost comes with German quality workmanship. When we compare to the price of a Sony lens, that extra is worth it.
We need this in our lives!
OH my panda, the REVORING I've been waiting for years
Ordered!
Yes, step up rings are annoying and this looks like a great product! Thanks for the review!
What a great idea/product. £60 for the three kits a bargain too
Not a bad idea. Or price for what you get. Also glad that you did what Kai W failed to mention; the quality of the glass as far as colour shiftning and sharpness goes. Not what I need right now - still not buried in step up/down-rings and filters - but looks like it might sell. (Also: Nice and well done video!)
Harriet yawning in the end is golden.
Well that's a bloody brilliant solution! Love the all in one, it would tick almost all the boxes for me!
Here's a question though, on the odd lens I have that's under 67mm thread size, would adding a conventional step up ring to then to make it a 67mm thread then be able to hold the all-in-one 67-82mm? I would think in theory yes since it's getting the same threads to grip onto inside the step up ring as it is inside a lens. If so I wouldn't mind putting a few permanent step ups on the smaller thread lenses so they can just as easily and quickly accept the all-in-one.
Thanks Philip!
yes no problem doing that
Convinced , SOLD !
👍 I am definitely interested.
just backed for the 3 size kit ;)
Done, I need this ASAP👍
Thanks for the informative and entertaining video Phillip! Does the all-in-one revoring have a thread on the outer side, say, for a screw in rubber hood?
thank you! I have answered this question so many times! If you look at it you will see there is no outer filter thread. If you use your own filters on the standard revoring then you will.
The one with integrated ND.. can you remove ND and use that as a normal 67mm filter?
MrTechcat no because it’s integrated 🤣
I'm not even shooting that much video anymore and yeah i'm going in. All in, baby!
Their all in one seems very nice, and price seems more justified than polar pro ! And it’s up to ND1000 🤯
Sounds interesting.
Can we stack them upon each other to go from a 82 filter to a 55 lens e.g.?
you can but it's a bad idea. the weight will add up and you will have this ridiculous big thing on the front of your little lens!
Thank you for the fantastic video, Philip! One question, is there a filter thread on the REVORING (ND, Polariser) for mounting additional filters? Like a Black Pro Mist filter.
Thank you. There is no filter thread on the variable ND, no. That’s 3 lots of glass stacked if you use a promist too!
Philip finally got his Sirui lens again 😊
Mr. Philips, I have a question: Regarding the EF lens used in sigma FP, which adapter ring do you use and how is the performance?
Hey Phil, great video as usual but I did have a question. I bought one of these months, used it for one job and I think the spring inside got stuck on something as it no longer works. Of course, I'm getting it replaced under warranty and they do mention this as an issue on their website. My question is, have you had any problems yourself? Just hoping I got a dud and they aren't all like this. cheers Phil
Fantastic!!!
Hi Philip, could you tell what microphone did you use for the video? Thank you!
Amazing that it took until 2020 to bring this to market.
I have 49mm step up to 82mm and it looks absolutely ridiculous on my 9mm Laowa. Might have to get this soon, just need to sort my life priorities.
@philip bloom can we stack two of these rings to go from lets say 49 to 82. I would like to use these for all my lenses ranging from diameters of 49 to 77.
Buy the two that cover that range. You will have a big lump on the front of your lens. Can you do it? Yes I tried it but it looked ridiculous. Yes it does mean having 67mm and 82mm lenses but its more elegant and probably more robust
I have the 67-82 VND and I do get the X pattern from about 9.25 stops. Am I doing something wrong?
Nice & Thanks :) Sir , Any vignetting issues ?
that would be very useful to me, if my lens choices wouldn't be 49, 67 (5 of my lenses are 67) and 77... for me, easiest is to have just 67 filters and some 77 and use step up rings, because you can go with one from 49 to 67...
but for someone with higher variety of filter sizes... this has to be awesome
Brilliant!

The kickstarter website shows the Revoring prices, but where are we supposed to click to purchase them?
Erm right there. It’s called “back project” or something like that. I take it you’ve never used Kickstarter before?
@@philipbloom
The Revoring ND-CPL filter having 3 glass elements, do you notice a drop in sharpness compared to using single element filters?
This video took far too long to show a cat!
I was thinking the same thing...
Can you mount anything like an IR cut filter to the front of the VND ring? Also, is it possible, if one is not careful, to actually scratch their lens while attaching the ring because the blades get smaller then the diameter of the lens mounting? Or, are the blades short enough that it will not connect with the lens? It's a very interesting product and I am considering it, even though I just bought a whole bunch of step up rings recently. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It looks pretty good.
Ranger 7 Studios no chance of scratching the lens. You would have to be putting it in sideways to do that! There is no threads on the VND. wouldn’t work as it’s already two filters on there. You can attach the revoring to a filter though
@@philipbloom Great, thanks! I'm looking at the comparisons now. VND vs. just the rings themselves.
so is this better than the k2 or should we just get the tilta mirage or the new small rig thin VND it s a mess
I want to buy this but they have eternally been in back order (pre-order). They don't respond to emails. And we don't seem to find them in stores. A pitty
really
They haven’t fulfilled their Kickstarter orders yet. Once they do then there will be new stock.
The shallow depth of field in your talking head shots almost have a Zach Snyder - Army of the Dead softness around the edges. (no fried pixels though).
Hi I know this probably a long shot but did you ever compare the later model of panasonic and sony log profiles (Vlog VS Slog3?)? I have worked extensively with V-log and just basic conversion got me excellent skin tones and beautiful color overall. Since you shot on both what’s your experience using each log profiles? Has Sony caught up? Is Slog3 just as Vlog by now (or better by any chance?)
Sorry but what’s the connection to this video? I don’t use Panasonic cameras so am the wrong person to ask.
@@philipbloom haha Ok… Eva1? S1h? You even have a panny in this shot. Sony must be tight ship haha. Never mind then 🫣🫡
@@CINENIMUS as a prop sure. I just don’t use them. Sony? Sure. Canon? Sure. Fuji? Sure. There’s many people like Gerald who would be qualified to answer your question I am not and it’s nothing to do with a “tight ship” whatever that is implying.

Great review if what looks like a great product. Are there threads on the VND adapter to allow stacking filters?
cheers. No, the circular polariser in first then the variable ND is over that. You wouldn't be able to turn the VND if you added a filter over it. You can have a filter over the lens if you really need to add something else and then attach the REVORING to that filter if it has threads on it
@@philipbloom ahh ok. Thanks!
You have my attention
thats a great product, sadly not the right diameter for me. Got 58 mm lenses and a 72 mm filter...
Maybe they will make one that fits for me in the future.
you've only got the one filter? You can always put a 67 to 72mm step up on the front of the middle adaptor.
What a great idea. Did you have any vignetting issues on wider lenses?
nope. I even had the larger one on the Laowa 12mm full frame lens!
@@philipbloom Excellent, gonna order one to try it out. Thanks for the review.
@@philipbloom Very cool.
Problem is that even with the hard stops you get the x pattern at 5 stops, so for most focal lengths (under 70mm) it's unusable after 5 stops.
Hey Eric, do you know if the front of the filter has threads? I would like to attach a hood to the front, as well as have a lens cap for protection. Thanks for your previous input by the way, good to know... - Paul
@@PaulHarwood856 No threads on front, but I heard they're working on a hood. They should have a magnetic filter for an extra 3 stops available soon. Not sure how long the hood will take.
@@Cookie-fv9jn Ok I understand. Thanks so much for the response! - Paul
@@PaulHarwood856 They sell magnetic lens caps.
They do have a pre-order for their Revoring without any nd filter (just the step mechanism). This allows you to use ranges like 67-77mm, attaching any filter that's 77mm. Not sure if lens hoods exist that use the threads like a filter would (I've only seen lens hoods that go over the threads and don't screw into them), but if you found one it should work with that setup. B&W appear to have hoods with threads.
It might also be a problem to have both a hood screwed onto the threads and the magnetic cap. I'm not sure about the size of the cap. Any overhang might get caught on the hood.
I try to stay away from kickstarters but the opportunity to lose the clank and rattle is too good. The price is fair, probably a lot less than what I’ve been paying to replace bogus cheap rings.
Can you screw a hood on the front of the ring to stop flair?
sorry what? you mean the lens hood of your actual lens???
love how it's not too overly dramatic.....wait....
How do you add a lens hood to this solution? Would be nice if they made a good quality rubber ring that fits outside to avoid black corners. :-)
How do you normally put your lens hood on when using a variable ND?
Philip Bloom Well, usually variable ND’s exceed the width that fits within the original lens hood. That’s why I’m looking for a good solution that’s practical and compact. Might be a good idea for a start up company to come up with a solutions that works with their new product.
Good, different !
You convinced me, I think they can buy you a good restaurant ;)
Take my money already!!
Just ordered 3x of the combined VND+CPL models. Philip, if you can give feedback to H&Y, I would love the ability to put a lens cap on the front of the RevoRing VND+CP model. They could provide a protective cap with it. I love having a VND on my camera but hate walking around without a cap to protect the expensive glass. Thanks for the recommendation! Hope the cats are well. I watch your videos for your great camera gear reviews, my wife watches them with me for your cats (which she loves, she loves that outdoor covered area you created for them)!
can i use my own nd filter without purchasing a new one on revoring?
yes, I explain this in the video
@@philipbloom i just noticed! thank you so much philip! looking forward to use it..
Just received a pair of polar pro nds, there's no thread to add a polarizer, was searching for a solution to attach a polarizer, then the the universe made me find this video by luck.
Is the RevoRing with the VND+CPL able to function purely as a step-up ring without the included filter?
Brian Cho You are asking it the one with the built in filter can be used without the built in filter? Sorry no. It’s a built in filter. Just spend an extra $25 or so for the simple REVORING with it :)
@@philipbloom Just increased my pledge to get the normal step-up ring! Thanks for the reply!
Brian Cho welcome! I bought a whole Electra set for myself
Looks great but I know nothing about how kickstarter works, anyone enlighten me ? Great video Philip
Avoid it for new companies is the general rule. You are “investing in them” and your reward is the product. Established companies like this also use them to build up excitement and also to gauge the interest in it. They’ve already got the product made, this lets them know how many people actually want them and gives them time to make them.
@@philipbloom thanks for the reply, The lenses i have for my camera go from 43mm to 55mm so presume i'd need the two of them then to cover all my lenses unless I'm been a complete moron ?
Autism, Twins & Us well you could get a step up for you 43 to take it to 46mm and then would only need the middle one. Otherwise yes you need the small and middle one.
@@philipbloom thought so . Thanks Philip, love your videos , I do hope once this covid nightmare calms or a vaccine is made you continue to make such amazing videos for us. Sorry Philip, Flying Cars are already here: lilium.com/ Made in Germany. Of Course!
P.S: I wish I had invented these Rings. It's such a no-brainer.
So u r gonna ignore the lens hood ????
Careful before buying, most reviewers mentioned it for like 2 seconds in their video. Worse, they even posted wide-angle pictures on their campaign but it seems they were not taken with the ND+CPL but with a standard circular ND. The X pattern is pretty terrible, it starts at 5-6 ND and at 36mm. So this Revoring is basically unusable for wide-angle landscape or cityscape photography.
Three things. This is not a review as clearly stated.
Secondly you are confusing the Revoring with the Revoring with build in variable ND. Two different products.
All variable NDs that have range such a large range do this. That’s why many VNDs come in two ranges, a low and a high one. It’s a compromise.
Everything you see in this video is genuine. There are no shots taken with filters which aren’t what are stated on the screen.
Thank you. I’ve literally just got the full set even though I was the first backer, yes I put my money where my mouth is.
@@philipbloom Hey Philip, I'm not confusing anything. I'm talking about the Revoring with ND+CPL as stated in my reply. Can you remove the variable ND if you buy the one with the variable ND?
No
@@philipbloom thanks for the quick reply, appreciated. That's a little annoying because I'd like to use it with a cinebloom filter sometimes without the variable ND. @@philipbloom yes but I want to be able to just use the diffusion filter sometimes. When in lower light scenarios. I guess I could get both, the ring with no filters the ring with the variable ND. Then I can use just the diffusion when I want to. It wouldn't break the bank.
