    I own this guitar for four years now and have been playing it a lot, both at home and on stage. It's a beauty in my opinion, and a guitar that you can bond with. Getting a lot of positive reactions to both the sound and the look whenever I play somewhere.
    Still mighty proud to play this guitar, every day!

      @@cglass8277 I find that hard to answer. I play it almost everyday so couldn't tell you the difference. I was enthousiastic when I bought, and I still am. It just has a lot of character and depth, and it might very well be the case that it gets better over time..

      These guitars Martin has been making for like 80 years....they have the know how, many try to copy. They have this mojo and soul like no other. I find even the dread model doesn't quite compare like the 000 and the 000SM. BTW when you put a pickup in them they will compete live with anything. Best guitar to record all mahogany Martins and why so many artist have one in their arsenal, like Jackson Browne, Arlo Guthrie, Matt Kerney, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Kenneth Pattengale, Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, Tony Fertado, Sierra Hull, and too many others to mention

    WOW...love the sound and chime of that example model...versatile tone for sure. Sometimes a dread can just be too much bass and overpowering, especially recording. Playing single lines on the 000 is so much more defined and punchy. I really like the understated simple clean appointments of the 15 series. The worn in look is icing on the cake! Love your playing, that ragtime ditty is sweet BTW!

    So now we know, longer scale means higher tension, shorter means less. That also has an affect on tone (for the subtle tone junkies).

    Standard 000-15 is also 25.5 scale length. Don't ask me why. I wanted to get a standard Martin 000 in the non-spruce, hog version, but that combo is apparently the only 000 that is not short scale for some reason. Definitely a bummer.

    What do you think of the action on Martin guitars, Quentin? Do you ever think they come out of the box a tad high in comparison to Taylors?

    • @quintonking9960
      @quintonking9960 Před 2 lety +5

      Hi Ned - Short Answer = Compared to Taylor's yes! That said, it may be something of an illusion in that I feel like I need to work a little harder to get string to fret on Martins compared to Taylors, but this could be the result of a number of factors apart from or in addition to the action. I appreciate action is a personal preference, and there can be functional benefits to having action a bit higher - particularly if you're anticipating some aggressive picking/strumming and want to ensure there's no buzz. At the same time, I'm lazy and it just feels nice when I don't have to work too hard. Thanks for watching!

      Retro strings are usually 80/20 formula, rather than phosphor bronze, and are a bit brighter than phosphor bronze. They pair well with the warmer, somewhat subdued highs of mahagony bodied acoustic guitars. Also, TUSQ bridge saddle brighten tone substantially, which might sound excellent on mahagony bodied acoustic guitars, but I do not yet know from experience.

      Hmm not sure if I agree. A bit of wear can add character to the guitar. But the moisture from the hand just creates a shiny layer - in the shape of a pickguard - over the beautiful finish, which definitely doesn't look too well on stage with lights strongly reflecting through that part. It looks 'dirty'. In addition, I get the feeling that I could just as well have a pickguard. Even though I like the fact that this guitar doesn't have one.

However, I know very little about finishes and that could damage your finish for all that I know, so try it on a small area on the back first if you're going to try it at all. I have a guitar with a super smooth satin neck. - I rubbed it with steel wool and the finish became stickier, which actually feels better to me because my hands are sweaty.

    Sorry, I cannot agree with these rave reviews...Mahogany tops do not have the ring or sustain as spruce. They look nice, mind you, but the sound borders on muddy. I owned a new D15M for 16 months, never could get it to 'open up'.

    • @Zaotar1
      @Zaotar1 Před 2 lety +3

      It’s pure preference. Mahogany tops sound warmer and darker, more like a classical guitar. Spruce sounds brighter, colder, and bigger, more metallic. People who like spruce are always going to think mahogany sounds comparatively muddy and dark, while people who prefer mahogany tops will perceive spruce as too tinny, cold and metallic. Really they are just two different modes of sound. You aren’t going to get a ‘church worship’ sound out of this guitar, but that’s not what it is for. You can get a spruce top Taylor if that’s the sound you crave.

      Have you ever tried a TUSQ saddle in one of your acoustics? They brighten the tone up quite a bit, almost too much on spruce top guitars in my opinion. They might sound amazing on mahagony bodied guitars, paired with 80/20 composition strings.
