      Hammer was lyrically on par with the rappers of that era back in 86. LL, nor RUN DMC had great lyrics and Inobody ever calls them out on that. They had hard rhyme styles and that's what hammer had a hard hammer delivery. lust like the tool. He just couldn't modernize and he started to fall off like every other rapper. He is an old school rapper and people need to regard him as that and not the rapper from the early 90's that hung around a bit too long. His Prime was 86-90. A good solid run for a West Coast Legend.

      I'll admit it....I used to love MC Hammer back in the "day". Being stationed in the Bay area then, I got to see and hear first hand the hype surrounding him. He was an amazing entertainer. I started disliking him when he got too commercialized and finally started loathing him when he tried to be a gangster rapper. But through it all, when I sometimes reminisce about the early 90's, I still remember the good times I had when they played MC Hammer at the club and to this day, I still occasionally play his music when i get pensive about those fun days.

      @@haelisrael4945MC HAMMER was a GREAT RAP ENTERTAINER no doubt about that. The problem that some HIP HOP PURISTS like myself had with HAMMER was not the fact that his music was not hard enough. That WAS NOT the issue. The problem we had with HAMMER was that he DID NOT have any true rapping skills or rhyming delivery and flow. His rap used to sound VERY CHOPPY. But he could DANCE HIS ASS OFF. MC HAMMER was the EXACT OPPOSITE of RAKIM. Because RAKIM was a VERY GREAT LYRICAL RAPPER with multiple syllable rhymes and a SMOOTH FLOW. But RAKIM had poor stage shows and RAKIM did not dance. But one rapper back in the late 80s who was very good at both RHYMING and DANCING as well was BIG DADDY KANE. Because KANE was lyrical enough to hang with RAKIM, and could dance good enough to put on a GREAT STAGE SHOW like MC HAMMER.

    For today's sermon I'll be reading from the Gospel of Hammer, Chapter 1, Verse 1.
    'And so Hammer did speak unto the b-boys and b-girls, and he did sayeth: "Put on the Hammer, and you shall be rewarded. For my beat is ever-boomin', and you know I get it started." And they did, and lo, they were blessed with minds full of rhymes, and tongues of steel.'
    Amen.

    you know a timeless hit when you can remember where you were at when you first heard it 🤣👌🏻, it was like 88-89 and we were at my aunts who had cable tv because it was so expensive back then and (we) as in (kids) were in the bedroom looking at what was called video jukebox where you phoned in your video selection for a fee but your video would hold until the other callers orders played, then yours would play in the order received
    listen! this video came on and everybody in that room was completely engaged into that tv I'm talkng we almost forgot who else was in the room into it 😂 and before you know it, callers kept ordering it back to back to back and the entire room ended up doing the hammer shoulder shrug and backwards feet slide every time it played 🕺🏻🤣 and for you kids reading this, keep in mind that nobody had ever combined rap and dance thus far that way, so it was kinda like it was ahead of it's time seeing it towards the end of the 80's like that, so he did "get it started" 😅👌🏻

      👍🏾 This story is so nostalgic. I was about 8yo during that time, and I remember Video Jukebox very well. I feel like I could’ve been in that room jamming with y’all. 😂

    What I liked most about this era was how the world seemed bigger/ less connected (no internet etc), so each section of the country developed its own culture-- everything from music to dress was unique depending on where u were from. It made the music much better....really wish it was the same these days

    Hammer was the man back then. Yall dont understand how impactful this was. His biggest mistake was going mainstream after the first album. If he made another underground album after that this would have cemented his hold on the game. Hammer was the man. It was too much damn energy that no one could match.

    • @donreed8785
      @donreed8785 Před 5 lety +6

      His biggest mistake was employing 50 plus homies with an average salary of 50K. I commend him for doing so, but it wasn't fiscally sound. Nevertheless, Hammer is a great guy.
