Manchester United football club are looking for a new owner. They are on the market and up for sale. Their current owners, the Glazer family, are asking for a figure in the region of $6billion. But how have they arrived at this figure?
How much are Manchester United actually worth? And how do you begin to value a football club in the first place?
Abhishek Raj explains, Marco Bevilacqua illustrates.

I’ll give the Glazers this: they’d make excellent parasites
They've been excellent parasites for the last 18 years.
The parasites are probably thinking we’ve been excellent hosts.
Hopefully Glazers leach out £20B from Qatari oilers lol.. Death to ManUre
This is an insult to parasites
They’d make? You mean “they are”.
The new owner will have to also spend up to £1Billion fixing the stadium and pay off close to £900M in debt which the glazers put on our club. We haven't even bought any players yet. Then there is the women's facilities which need building, and the training facility needs upgrading. These owners are completely out of touch.
Not out of touch insanely greedy
@@itsmeprasad1987 I’m pretty sure being out of touch and greedy are mutually exclusive
@@Harry._.Thompson both of you are correct
@@88balloonsonthewall70 Probs talking about fixing all the mess before even buying a single player
@@AntonioSullivan Qatar have plans for transfers already in place. They just need the Glazers to give them the keys.
Glazers literally holding the club to ransom
Nope, not literally. Metaphorically maybe, but definitely not literally as by definition wouldn't be possible.
Still not as bad as Valencia's owners
Just as I thought. The greedy Glazers are massively over pricing the club. I like the caveat you mentioned at the start but I can’t blame Sheik Jasim for not wanting to pay £6 Billion. He would paying more than double what we’re actually worth for a club they neglected for 17 years. The Glazers are lucky no body is turning up to where they live, let alone walking away with £6 Billion.
You think people should physically threaten them over a game of kicking a ball of air?
@@devidwobinson8747 Never I said I think it should happen. I said it COULD happen.
@@devidwobinson8747 Yeah when you put it that way it sounds stupid, but it's football innit, people actually invest time and money in the emotion, also the fact that ST holders or stadium goers aren't even treated properly as fans just cash cows
@@devidwobinson8747 yes
@@devidwobinson8747 ed Woodward received de*th/bomb threats, Richard Arnold had fans turn up outside of his home demanding answers, fans stormed the stadium for the Liverpool game last year. I’m not saying I condone it but fans who’s whole lives revolve around the club they love are sick of these parasites and I won’t be surprised if they do much worse if the glazers stay
Screw the glazers expectations. Their greed is evident.
If they don't sell, we riot.
@@yourmothersfavourite riot lol omg bullying wont get them to move so cry more
@MYOB cool they don't care. They probably want you to wreck old Trafford so they can get the government to buy them a new one
@@notsaying7018 said by a 6 year old
@@matty5690 i know you are but what am i
From a fans perspective id have said a sale price of 4 billion would have been over paying but worth it especially if the new owner needs to spend for renovations at OT and Carrington but 5-7 billion is the parasites trying to rinse the club one last time
Al Thani already has offered over 5b pounds so he’s over paying
Trafford will be abandoned for a new stadium fact
The current offer by the Qataris as reported to be 5bn + is still significantly higher than the valuation not considering the debt being wiped out. I really don’t think the glazers can afford to wait or receive a higher bid down the line. Man Utd also can’t afford to go on like this under the terrible ownership of the glazers. This is the tipping point! Hopefully we have new owners soon 🙏🏽
Glazers out

We love them to stay for centuries 😍

Glazers asking for more than twice what the club is worth. What a surprise.
The way it’s been allowed to happen. A slow asset stripping of one of footballs greatest clubs for some American family’s greed
Sorry state of affairs for a once great institution
Funny how good business is generally just bad for everyone except the owners of the asset. Great system we've made for ourselves
Thanks for giving me another reason to be upset after yesterday game. 🤦♂️🔰
Cry 😢
Can you do a follow up video comparing the big clubs outside the UK?
Obviously Clubs like Real and Bayern aren't in private ownership and thus they can't be sold but it would be an interesting comparison
Glazer destroy United and put it as an hostage for ridicolous sale price.
They have no intention of selling up, all about inflating the share price and keeping the fans quiet. If they do sell they’ve already mentioned a few years ago about selling for £10b. Wouldn’t be surprised if Joel and Avram stick around somehow like the supposed rumoured Ratcliffe deal of them being minor stakeholders.
Not by notification, but by the call of heart. Tifo❤
I am no utd fan, but I am really baffled by the glazers greed. And on top of that, they didn't invest a single penny of their own to buy the club in the first place, it was a LBO. So whatever they are getting by selling the club is just profit
Well explained keep it up
6bn- 1bn debt - 1bn for renovations = 4bn max
3:33 the value of chelsea could have been increased due their location too i feel. Being a london club and also literally on the richest part of London should have played its part.
fulham? richest part of London?

Amazing video
I think it's worth highlighting the fact that any new owner is paying a premium for the fact that they want a controlling stake. This is especially true of the Qatari and Ratcliffe bids as I wouldn't have thought either party would want a minority stake. I know you touched on the "it's worth how much someone is willing to pay" but there is a stark difference between paying for a business because you can and paying enough to ensure you are able to control its day to day operations. Very interesting video though. I'm enjoying the growing popularity of football finance!
What a nice presentation
The video concept and execution is amazing. Tifo is the realist. ✌🏽

I think something to note with the Chelsea purchase is that abramovich cleared the debt Chelsea had, that may have had an effect on the value of the club. I believe it was something close to £1 billion we owed to abramovich. I doubt the glazers will do the same
Despite my disklike of the glazers I've always felt that their valuation of Manchester United is a little bit over the top. £4.5 bill was a fair enough price considering we need to upgrade a lot of the club's facilities and possibly a new stadium including revamping the sqaud wc may take the whole takeover project upto £7bill when it's all said and done
The very fact that there are about 1 billion in debts and 1 billion in outstanding renovations makes 4.5 billion a delusional price tag, not fair.
Weldone 👏
Good efforts good game
Very grateful
Glazers wants 6 billion, there is 6 of them. I read from an article that a decent sure shot assassin charges 1 million per contract. So that's 6 million. Much less than 6 billion i would say.

great 💕💕💕💕
I just hope someone buys the club because if the glazers stay we won't have ten Hag in two years and many players will be gone by then.
Superbbbbb
Awesome 👍👍😎👍😎😎
As José said..."Football heritage"...But it's clear for everyone to see...Two domestic cups to show in the last decade and one meagre Europa League...How they have managed to stay relevant in this era is still mind blowing... Hoping for a takeover and Ten Hag to do his thing though ♥️
They’ve stayed relevant thanks to the meticulous planning of Sir Alex. He put so much emphasis into brand and image that they have supporters all over the world who aren’t just glory hunters. They stick with the club through tough periods too, and that’s the reason why they still earn so much money.
@@liverbot4854 don't forget David gill...and the glazers do exist because of sir Alex because of the rock Gibraltar episode..for all the good things he did.. he ended up doing some nasty things too
@@liverbot4854 and because FFP keeps you top as a high earning club... But ok..
@@blue_dreamed5141 FFP is about not amounting a certain figure of debt through transfers in a period of time. Aston Villa and Wolves have spent more than Liverpool in the last 5 years so I don’t see how FFP is holding them back.
@@liverbot4854 Indeed it is, but in most cases it will also halt wealth accumulation in most cases, ensuring no one can spend as much as the biggies.
Wonderful team
