I was a living skills instructor with developmentally disabled adults for five years before I transitioned into healthcare. Are we sure the person who identifies as a dear doesn’t have a developmental disability? No I’m not throwing shade and no it’s not even the deer thing. It was the mannerisms. This looks like a person who was born with some cognitive issues to me. I had multiple clients who this person reminded me of but one in particular. It was freaky. It was almost uncomfortable. I became concerned that a disabled person might be online accidentally making a fool of themselves for all the world to mock. Idk if that’s the case but I couldn’t help but see it, there or not. It’s concerning.

As someone on the autism spectrum, many of these people seem like they might be somewhere on the spectrum as well. It can be difficult to cope with certain things for these people and many people on the spectrum relate to animals because they are quiet and more simple than humans. Another thing about people on the spectrum is they get hyperfocused on one thing, perhaps and animal, I'm just generalising here but that is my guess as to why people believe in this stuff. I used to believe that I was a cat when I was little, I think these are just people who never grew out of it.

Right, that's fair, that still doesn't mean that you cater to, or condone, or coddle, people who can't cope or handle things. You help them socialize, you help them grow into a civilized person to the best of their ability, you show them healthy, normal coping mechanisms that help them to the best of their abilities. Just because someone is disabled, doesn't mean you coddle everything they do or condone it.
And the autistic spectrum is not nearly as vast as people think it is. Being autistic is still very rare. these people are more likely poorly socialized, awkward, immature adults. Either way, there's no reason for these people to be catered to, and honestly just need to grow up.

I feel bad for these people, its like they never grew out of middle school. I feel like there is actually something wrong with them maybe?? Idk i could totally be wrong but in middle school, i was a big time cat girl. When i did that, i wanted attention so bad. I didnt believe i was actually a cat but i was... what you would imagine. Gracie I think it’s definitely a mental thing. A few years ago, when I was suffering severe and untreated anxiety and depression, I identified as “therian/otherkin”. I felt like I didn’t fit into the “human world” and that maybe I was meant to be born an animal, that something went wrong with my creation. It was definitely unhealthy and not normal thinking, and I got out of it pretty fast and have my mental illness better controlled now, but I wonder if it’s similar with these people and they just don’t think there is a problem or have access to help?

I also greatly dislike the association between Otherkin and transgender people. But not because I don't believe it is a legitimate condition people have. But because unlike transgender people, Otherkin never claimed to be a marginalised or socially oppressed community. Never demanded special treatment.
Transgender, compared to Otherkin, is a very recent phenomenon. And calling these people "transspecies" is, in my opinion, very reductive and serves the sole purpose of throwing them into the same category as transgender.
It hit me like a brick wall when I realized that was the “In every way except physical, I am a wolf” person.
She is just living proof of: "Just because you identify as something doesn't necessarily mean you ARE that "something"."

Tbh I'm a fifteen year old kid who's always had a big imagination and is obsessed with all things fantasy. Think DND LARP and fantasy novels. The idea of dressing up and relating to a fantasy creature as like an alter identity sounds amazing to me and personally mine is a Phoenix it's pretty much my favourite ever. But because of my religion Christianity and tbh I mean all of these things are meant to be IMAGINARY. Like you can still dress up and imagine but like remember you still live in reality.

Hey, I did this too! Not autistic but I broke my arm during "pouncing practice" when I was 6/7, and I once wore socks on my hands when my family went out to a shopping centre. (Grew out of it shortly after breaking my arm, thankfully.)
As a kid I thought it'd be cool to be an animal. I remember one time trying to sleep on my mom's lap curled up in a ball when I was like 5 or some shit. After doing that I realized "wow this is stupid" and, to my recollection, never did anything that creepy again.

It’s developmentally appropriate to ‘pretend’ you’re something when you’re a kid-an animal, a doctor, pregnant 😂🤦🏻♀️ (legit had girls in 2nd grade acting like they were pregnant...knowing their home life explains that though). But you outgrow it as your brain develops and starts to understand reality vs imagination, what’s concrete to make believe. These sorts of people...some obviously do it for attention. Others, you KNOW they are mentally stunted and stuck in that imagination is reality stage of development. Mental illness or brain defect, idk, but it’s worth studying on a larger scale to hopefully help these people or at least give them services so they don’t harm themselves or others from tipping over that ledge too far.
I wonder how long it will be until someone sues a veterinarian for discrimination.
