Sad news everyone, legendary Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart has passed away this week, following his struggle with brain cancer. He was only 67. Let's take a moment to pay tribute to him by sharing in the comments which Rush song was your favorite, and if you ever saw him perform live.

Putting Neil Peart at #3 is a total disgrace to music and drummers in general. Everyone knows he should be #1
EDIT: With ALL due respect to Keith Moon and John Bohnam, Neil Peart is the best drummer alive. And y'know what? Peart wouldn't want this recognition! He is humble and modest. SO ALL these drummers are great.

John Bonham, Keith Moon, and Neil Peart are definitely my three top drummers may they all rest in peace because nobody could ever touch their Raw Talent! As a female drummer myself at the age of five I knew I was different my uncle was a teenager had a decent drum kit in the basement I was always putting in an 8-track tape and making a lot of noise LOL until that noise became something that I never knew I had Within Me I definitely consider it my craft along with singing because my father was a doo-wop singer that new a lot of names back in the day I just love the way it makes me feel to roll across the drums like an ocean wave now that there's so many more females out there which is great it just goes to show that that you have that talent in that drive don't hold yourself back just go out there and take it it's yours for the taken May these drummers continue to inspire the ones that are still here with us each instrument takes a whole lot of practice and a whole lot of years to learn I happen to believe in reincarnation there is a young man by the name of Avery that plays every single drummer to be known to man in this child from the age of 3 years old to now 16 I believe can play anybody style drumming is if he has their soul in him it is unbelievable! Whatever you do just keep rocking on thank you kindly for allowing me to speak I'm 49 years old I was born with rhythm and I'm thankful to the good Lord above amen XOXO

Paice, never one to grab the limelight, is underrecognized, whereas the ones listed here are all familiar to the general public. I'd definitely put him in the top ten for his creativity and ability to make his drumming interesting yet cohesive with everything else. One rule of thumb is whether you'd enjoy focusing your ear on just the drumming in a song. That's true with Ginger Baker and Stewart Copeland; it is also true with Paice. Not so with some of the others on this list, but hey, it wasn't put together by musicians.

I’m always so surprised that I never see The Rev or Joey Jordison in any of the best drummers lists, both are insanely fast and even better at writing drum parts. I’ve seen very few drummers be able to go as fast as Joey and I don’t think there could ever be a drummer that writes songs as well as The Rev.

When I learnt drums during school dinner hour because the food was so naff my early influences were Ringo Starr (Beatles) John Coghlan (Status Quo) Pick Withers (Dire Straits) Later influences were Led Zeppelin and Rush.. The grounds man at the school taught me in the music room for the eye watering cost of 10p for the hour.. Mid 80s and my dear old nan gave me the money for my first drum kit.. Up to then I was using upturned paint tubs.. Still got my original sticks to this day.. Best balance ever. The Art teacher recorded me and my mates who played the guitar and keyboards on his 8 track when we did a school assembly once.. From that day on the bullies left us alone.. One day in rehearsal the headmaster walked in and the room fell silent.. We thought he had come to complain about the noise.. He sat down at the piano and began to play Blue Moon. So I joined in.. Happy days.. I still have the recording of the recording lying around on a cassette gathering dust..
